In the anime
Chili appeared in Triple Leaders, Team Threats! alongside fellow Gym Leaders Cilan and Cress. Along with Cress, he made his first appearance when serving Ash. Ash declined, and said he wanted to battle the Gym Leader, and the three brothers introduced themselves. They followed Ash to the battleground where they revealed their Pokémon. Chili was the first to battle Ash, and lost.
He appeared again in Dreams by the Yard Full!, where he said goodbye to Cilan, who decided to travel with Ash and Iris.
Cilan mentioned in BW010 that Trip had battled Chili and defeated his Pansear with his Servine, earning himself the Trio Badge. He appeared in a flashback in BW019 where him and Cress were telling Cabernet that Cilan had gone on a journey and could not battle her again, so she battled Chili and won.
He, like his brothers, tends to speak about Pokémon in relation to their element, in Chili's case, fire. All the brothers tend to use hand positions like rock, paper, and scissors - Chili tends to accentuate words with his fists.

Pansear is Chili's only known Pokémon. It first appeared when Chili showed what Pokémon he has and Ash scans it on his Pokédex. It is the first Pokémon Ash battled in his gym battle. Tepig's attacks didn't do much damage to Pansear, but Pansear hit Tepig hard with Fire Punch, Flamethrower and Dig. One of Pansear's Dig attacks knocked Tepig into the air. But Ash commanded it to use Tackle into the hole that Pansear was in and it managed to bite down on Pansear's tail. Tepig then spun Pansear around and threw it on the ground, used Ember successfully, and then knocked it out with powerful Tackle.
It was revealed in BW010 that Pansear faced Trip's Servine in battle and lost.
Pansear's known moves are Flamethrower, Fire Punch and Dig.

Trivia
- His Japanese Leader title, shared with Cilan and Cress, is トライアル トライアングル.

- In the anime, Chili has been known to have battled the most times out of the three Striaton Gym Leaders, having battled Trip, Ash, and Cabernet. He also lost all three times.
