Genesect (Japanese: ゲノセクト Genesect) is a dual-type Bug/Steel legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation V.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon, though it has other forms.
It is currently the final Pokémon in both the Unova Pokédex and the National Pokédex.
Biology
Physiology
Genesect has a head like a UFO, with two large eyes and a small mouth. Its body is similar to Scizor, but more articulate. It has a powerful cannon (named in the Techno Blast move as the Photon Blaster) on its back that was apparently added as part of the bizarre modifications made to it by Team Plasma.
Gender differences
Genesect is a genderless species.
Special abilities
Being modified by Team Plasma, Genesect is equipped with a powerful cannon that can shoot down everything around it. It is the only Pokémon capable of learning the move Techno Blast, which changes its type of blast depending on the Drive it holds. Genesect's cannon also give Genesect the ability to learn a variety of projectile-based moves like Zap Cannon, Energy Ball, or Flash Cannon or beam-based moves like Ice Beam, Hyper Beam, and Signal Beam. Genesect's sharp claws also allow it to learn moves like Fury Cutter and Slash. Genesect can also use Flying-type moves like Fly and Aerial Ace. It is indicated that even before Team Plasma powered up Genesect, it was a skilled and ruthless hunter.

History
Genesect was going to be revived from a fossil and powered up by Team Plasma to create the most powerful Pokémon ever, but N had the project canceled because he felt that any Pokémon modified by science had lost its pureness. However, one scientist kept working on it, annoyed that N denied his talent. This scientist reconstructed Genesect and powered up the gun on its back.

Trivia
- Despite its Pokédex entries stating that it is a resurrected prehistoric Pokémon, it is not Rock-type like fossil Pokémon that can be resurrected by the player. This could be due to the modifications made to it by Team Plasma.
- Genesect is the only Bug-type legendary Pokémon, excluding Arceus holding the Insect Plate.
- Genesect has the highest base stat total of all Bug-type Pokémon.
- Genesect can learn Fly, despite having no visible wings or known method of flight.
- It is one of the two Bug-type Pokémon that can learn Fly. The other is Volcarona.
- Neither of these Pokémon are Flying-type, and were both introduced in Generation V.
- It is one of the two Bug-type Pokémon that can learn Fly. The other is Volcarona.
- Genesect is the only Pokémon which names a villainous team in its Pokédex entry, in this case Team Plasma.
- Genesect is the last Pokémon in National Pokédex order.
- Genesect is the only Pokémon which ends a generation in National Pokédex order that is not Psychic-type in at least one form.
- Of the Generation V event legendary Pokémon, Genesect is the only one that does not have an event signature move. Victini, Keldeo and Meloetta obtain their respective signature moves through events, whereas Genesect has Techno Blast as a starting move.
- Despite it being its signature move, Genesect cannot receive STAB from Techno Blast.
- Genosect's backstory is similar to Mewtwo's; both were resurrected by villainous teams in at least one canon, and genetically engineered to be more powerul.
Origin
Genesect may be generally based on the giant insects of the Paleozoic era, which existed for 300 million years, making it as old as the cockroach. Its Steel-type features that give it a somewhat robotic appearance are a reference to alien robots in science fiction media, however this may be because of Team Plasma's modifications.
Name origin
Genesect's name may be a combination of the English words gene or genetics and insect.
