Route 226 (Japanese: 226ばんすいどう Sea Route 226) is a water route on the northeastern island of Sinnoh, that links Survival Area with Route 228 and Route 227, leading to Stark Mountain. There is only one place of note to visit on this route: the house on the island, inhabited by a multilingual traveling Meister.

Route description

If starting from the eastern end of the route, those wishing to cross Route 226 must first make their way through a brief patch of tall grass. Surfing around a few rocks, players will soon encounter the Meister's house. He is a multilingual traveler who lives alone in a house on a small island. Inside Meister's house, the player may trade a Finneon for a Magikarp. This apparently unfair trade will unlock the multilingual Pokédex entries option, as the Meister's Pokémon is German in origin. Certain Pokémon, once imported from non-English games, will display their Pokémon entries in the language of the country it has arrived. In Diamond and Pearl, the Pokémon and language lists are limited, but from Platinum, all Pokémon are supported by this feature.

The remainder of the route is simplistic in nature. There are a few Trainers with high-leveled Pokémon, and many wild Pokémon on both land and in the water. HM08 (Rock Climb) is required in order to access the upper area of the Survival Area.

Trivia

  • If the player's party contains no Pokémon other than Finneon that can learn Surf or Fly and lacks a Pokémon with Teleport, trading away Finneon to Meister can effectively strand the player until Magikarp evolves and can learn Surf or faints in a battle, instantly taking the player back to a Pokémon Center. If the player has managed to progress to this point without obtaining any fishing rods, and does not have enough Rare Candies to make Magikarp evolve (or cancels evolution), or trades a Level 100 Finneon, they will be stuck on Meister's island permanently.
    • However, to have gotten the Finneon without getting fishing rods, one must trade with another game to access this Finneon, as it is only available via fishing.
