By Your Side ~Hikari's Theme~ (Japanese: 君のそばで 〜ヒカリのテーマ〜 Kimi no Soba de ~Hikari no Tēma~, exact Kimi no Soba de ~Hikari no Thema~) was the first ending song of the Diamond & Pearl series, and the 21st ending overall. It aired from DP001 to DP061.

Synopsis of original version

Dawn is shown in different poses, along with Ash's hat and Pikachu's ear. She strikes a pose, displaying her Pokétch, which transitions into Dawn catching a coin with her previous pose. Dawn is looking at the sky with Ash, Brock and their Pokémon. Piplup is on Dawn's shoulder, and they smile. Brock, Ash and Pikachu look at a fountain while Dawn watches Piplup eat. Ash, Pikachu, Brock and Dawn are looking at a Pokémon Contest poster. Piplup, Pikachu and Dawn appear on the screen in rapid order. She smiles at the camera, and a image of the group running with their Pokémon appears. Dawn winks at the camera, and a image of Dawn wearing her Contest attire is seen with everyone else and their Pokémon in the background. She is serious, then a image of the group jumping appears. The group is running with a mountain backdrop, as the group jumps the background changes to a valley with a waterfall and rainbow. Dawn looks at the camera, then she poses with her friends. She winks at the camera, then Team Rocket is seen digging a hole. She is serious, then she appears jumping, with a Poké Ball in hand. Dawn, Ash and Brock are running again. Then, they, Team Rocket, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny are smiling at the camera.

Synopsis of PopUp and Winter versions

Dawn is shown in different poses, along with Ash's hat and Pikachu's ear. She strikes a pose, displaying her Pokétch, which transitions into Dawn catching a coin with her previous pose. Dawn is looking at the sky with Ash, Brock and their Pokémon. Piplup is on Dawn's shoulder, and they smile. Ash, Brock and all their Pokémon have fun together while Dawn sits besides a tree with Piplup who is sleeping. (While in the Winter version, She joins the others and Piplup seems to have awoken.) Ash, Brock, Dawn and all their Pokémon all play in the snow. Piplup, Pikachu and Dawn appear on the screen in rapid order. She smiles at the camera, and a image Dawn and her Pokémon appears. Dawn winks at the camera, and a image of Brock wearing a sombrero and maracas with his Pokémon. She is serious, then a image of Ash and his Pokémon appears. The group is running with a mountain backdrop, as the group jumps the background changes to a valley with a waterfall and rainbow. Dawn looks at the camera, then all of Ash, Dawn and Brock's Pokémon appears. She winks at the camera, then Team Rocket is seen crashing and falling down a hole. She is serious, then she appears jumping, with a Poké Ball in hand. Dawn, Ash and Brock are running again. Then, they, Team Rocket and all their Pokémon are smiling at the camera.

Trivia

• The complete PopUp Version is included on the CD single for Together 2007, and the TV-Size Winter Version is included on the CD High Touch! / Surely Tomorrow. (So far, the latter didn't get a full version released.)
• Slow instrumental versions can still be heard in the English dub.
• A newly arranged version sung by Dawn (Megumi Toyoguchi) is featured in the single The Greatest - Everyday!
• The PopUp version has some different images and instrumentals.
• The Winter version uses a holiday theme both visually and instrumentally. Holiday images are used, along with chimes, bells, etc.
• Being the first ending of the Diamond & Pearl series, it and its various remixes has been used often as background music in the said series and even in the Best Wishes series.

• DP025 - DP033: Song changed to PopUp. Version, Dawn's Pachirisu was added, and new images were added to the animation. A reference to Takeshi's Paradise is made in one of the images.
• DP034: Brock's Egg was added.
• DP035 - DP038: Dawn's Buizel was added.
• DP039 - DP050: Brock's Happiny replaces the picture of its Egg.
• DP051 - DP052: Song changed to Winter Version. Brock's Croagunk is added to the Takeshi's Paradise reference.
• DP053 - DP054: Ash's Chimchar was added
• DP055 - DP056: James's Cacnea was removed.
• DP057 - DP061: Aipom and Buizel are switched to Dawn and Ash's screens, respectively. Chimchar now sits on Ash's shoulder at the end where Aipom used to be.
