Pokémon UNITE (Japanese: Pokémon UNITE) is a free-to-start spin-off Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. It is developed by TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent Games. The game was released on July 21, 2021 on the Nintendo Switch[1] and is scheduled to be released on September 22, 2021 for mobile devices.[2] It is playable in nine languages, with Japanese, English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese having been available since launch and German, Spanish, French, and Italian set to be added on September 22, 2021.[3]
It was announced during Pokémon Presents on June 24, 2020. A closed beta test occurred in mainland China beginning in January 2021, and a regional beta test on Android devices occurred in Canada in March 2021.[4] A network test was held for the Nintendo Switch version in Japan from June 24 to June 26, 2021.[5]
Blurb
Experience a new kind of Pokémon battle in Pokémon UNITE. Team up and face off in 5-on-5 team battles to see who can score the most points within the allotted time. Work together with your fellow Trainers to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve your partner Pokémon, and defeat the opposing team’s Pokémon to prevent them from scoring points. Put your teamwork to the test, and take home the win!
Gameplay
Players compete in Unite Battles, where two teams attempt to score points in the opposing team's goals while guarding their own. To score, players collect Aeos energy by defeating wild Pokémon or members of the enemy team, which they must then bring to an opposing goal. The team with the highest score after ten minutes wins; if there is a tie, the team that reached the tied score first wins.
Pokémon begin a match at level one in their least evolved form (discounting baby Pokémon) and gain experience gradually over time, a process which is sped up by defeating wild Pokémon. As Pokémon gain experience and level up, they learn new moves that they then have access to for the rest of the battle, and Pokémon with evolutions (besides Pikachu) evolve as well, much like in the core series. Initially, a Pokémon has two moves and the player chooses which one to keep; the move that they did not choose is then unlocked at level three. These moves are upgraded at proceeding levels with the player choosing one of two moves to replace the move with. At the Pokémon's final level, it unlocks its Unite Move, a separate, powerful attack that must charge over time.
Participating in Unite Battles will earn the player Battle Points, Aeos coins, and (after reaching Trainer level six) Aeos energy.
Game modes
Standard Battle
Standard Battle is the default game mode and has three types of matches within its umbrella: Random Match, CPU Match, and Friendly Match. They are all 10 minute 5-on-5 matches that take place in Remoat Stadium. Players may play solo or form in groups of any size.
Random Matches will randomly match players of comparable skill into two teams. CPU Matches will randomly match one team of five against a team of CPUs. Friendly Matches allow up to 10 players to join two teams, with CPUs filling in any empty spots. Rewards such as Aeos coins and Battle Points are not awarded in Friendly Matches.
Ranked Battle
Ranked Battles are unlocked at Trainer level six. They are 10 minute 5-on-5 matches that take place in Remoat Stadium. Players may play solo or form in groups of two, three, or five. Team members must be within similar ranks to each other.
Rank | Classes |
---|---|
Beginner Rank | 3 |
Great Rank | 4 |
Expert Rank | 5 |
Veteran Rank | 5 |
Ultra Rank | 5 |
Master Rank | Points - 0-99999 |
Quick Battle
Quick battles are unlocked at level 8. They are shorter than Standard Battles at 5 minutes with 4v4 or 3v3 matches. The Quick Battles' maps rotate periodically, allowing players to only choose from one available Quick Battle map at a time. Each map has different rules.
Wild Pokémon
Defeating wild Pokémon is the primary way of collecting Aeos energy. They will generally attack Trainers' Pokémon that come near or attack them and chase after them a limited distance. As the Unite Battle progresses, some will despawn while other, more powerful Pokémon will spawn. Additionally, some wild Pokémon may evolve at later stages of the battle. The following is a list of wild Pokémon that can appear.

Special wild Pokémon will give the Pokémon that knocked them out buffs. These buffs include damage shields, increased damage against wild Pokémon with low HP, and decreasing the movement speed of enemies hit by the buffed Pokémon. Other wild Pokémon will assist the Pokémon that knocked them out by lowering the opposing team's goal's defenses. This allows goals to be scored faster. This section is incomplete. Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it. Reason: Need Flat Stats level 1(X), level 20(Y), and level 30(Z) numbers |
Each trainer's Pokemon can hold up to 3 held items. These items can be upgraded through grades 1-30. Their upgrade effects increment at grades 1, 10, and 20, while their flat stats increment every grade, or every other grade if they affect two stats. After increasing a held item to Grade 20, the cost per upgrade for that item will increase sharply instead of gradually.

Currencies
Items in Pokémon UNITE are bought with three currencies: Aeos coins, Aeos tickets, and Aeos gems. Aeos coins buy Pokémon licenses, battle items, and hold items. Aeos tickets buy fashion items, battle and hold items, and other items such as boost cards and item enhancers. Aeos gems can buy licenses, fashion items, boost and rename cards, energy tanks, and Holowear. They can also be used in place of Aeos tickets if the player does not have enough. In such cases, an Aeos gem is worth ten Aeos tickets. There are also specific tickets for fashion and Holowear that can only be used for specific items.
Aeos coins are obtained through battles, though are restricted to 2,100 per week. Aeos tickets are obtained as ranked match season rewards. Both can also be given to players through events. Fashion and Holowear tickets can be found in battle pass prize boxes and as energy rewards.
Aeos gems
Aeos gems are a premium currency that can only be obtained by buying them with real money.
