Conway was shown to be a very smart trainer. His strategies played an important role in helping Dawn and him to advance to the finals of the Sinnoh Double Battle Tournament. Conway appears again in DP088 through DP091 during a four-episode arc at a summer school. During this arc he demonstrates his knowledge about Pokémon as well as an Template:S towards Dawn.
Conway uses very effective strategies, but doesn't improvise much, something that has led to losses several times for him. Examples iclude using Confusion to redirect an attack, using Protect while another Pokémon attacks, and so on.
