Palkia on the Spear Pillar

Spear Pillar (Japanese: やりのはしら Spear Pillar) is a location on the peak of the Sinnoh region's Mt. Coronet, where either Dialga or Palkia can be battled and captured in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl depending on the version. In Pokémon Platinum, the player can battle Giratina, along with both Dialga and Palkia. It is also where the player meets the boss of Team Galactic, Cyrus, and faces off against him as well as Mars and Jupiter. The player faces Mars and Jupiter while battling alongside his/her rival.

After the defeat or capture of Dialga or Palkia, the Adamant Orb or Lustrous Orb, respectively, will be able to be found behind where the Pokémon was.

If the player has the Azure Flute, it will make a whistling noise almost as soon as the player enters the area from the cave. If the player chooses to blow into it, a staircase will appear that extends up to the Hall of Origin, where Arceus awaits.

In Pokémon Platinum, the first entrance to the Distortion World, where Giratina and Cyrus are, is located at the top of the Spear Pillar.

Spear Pillar will likely appear in the Pokémon anime in To the Conquering of Space-Time, as the movie's producers went to Greece, home to many ruins similar in design, for inspiration.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Spear Pillar[1] (named in the Japanese version as テンガンざん やりのはしら Mt. Tengan Spear Pillar)[2] is also an unlockable stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Players can unlock the stage by completing Event 25: The Aura Is With Me. The background of the stage will feature either Dialga, Palkia or Cresselia, who will occasionally do things to affect the stage such as tilting it diagonally or breaking one section of the top platform; Dialga slows time, Palkia flips or reverses the view, and Cresselia randomly attacks with flying crescents. The lake trio will also make cameo appearances when something happens to the stage.

The stage's default music is "Victory Road" from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Other pieces of background music are "Dialga / Palkia Battle at Spear Pillar!," "Wild Pokémon Battle! (Diamond / Pearl)," "Team Galactic Battle!," and "Route 209."

Trivia

  • The name spear pillar is a reference to the creation myth in Shintō, where the deities Izanagi and Izanami were given the spear 天沼矛 Ame-no-nuboko, with which they created 淤能碁呂島 Onogoroshima, upon which they built the pillar 天御柱 Ame-no-mihashira.
  • Spear Pillar is technically part of Mt. Coronet, and therefore, Magneton and Nosepass will evolve here if leveled up.
  • It is still unknown if the Ruined World is part of Mt. Coronet.
  • The Escape Rope cannot be used here, despite it being part of Mt. Coronet. This is because the player has used a cave exit into Spear Pillar, thus the game assumes they are no longer in a mountain. Therefore, the Escape Rope cannot be used to return to the outside world. However, Fly can be used.
