Arceus is the titular character of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Arceus is the one who brings the player from the present day to the Hisui region, and it also serves as the final boss of the game.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus

In the past, Arceus created the Hisui region and was worshiped as "almighty Sinnoh" by the ancient Celestica people, who built the Temple of Sinnoh atop Mount Coronet as tribute. At some point, it banished Giratina to the Distortion World for its violence, the latter who has been awaiting vengeance since.

After the ancient hero of legend and his ten Pokémon companions successfully faced it in battle, Arceus gave them its blessing; and these Pokémon's descendants would become the noble Pokémon and Ride Pokémon. Afterwards, Arceus returned to the Hall of Origin, and its Plates were scattered across Hisui.

After the Celestica disappeared from Hisui, a new group of settlers arrived from across the sea, adopting the customs of the ancient Celestica. They would later become the rivalling Diamond Clan and Pearl Clan, who believed almighty Sinnoh to be either Dialga or Palkia respectively. The two clans came to believe that their counterparts worshipped a false god and went to war against each other, with the conflict only ending after both sides became too weak to continue fighting.

The game begins with the player character falling through empty space. Suddenly, Arceus, as a glowing white silhouette, appears before the player and transforms their smartphone into the Arc Phone. The player is later found unconscious on Prelude Beach by Professor Laventon, having been sent back in time by Arceus. The player notices the Arc Phone on the ground nearby, and upon inspecting it, reads a message from Arceus and a request: "Seek out all Pokémon."

After the player has obtained all eighteen Plates, Arceus will transform the player's Celestica Flute into the Azure Flute at the Temple of Sinnoh. Upon playing it, the player is disappointed to see nothing has happened. Then the Arc Phone begins to beep, with Arceus prompting the player to first "Seek out all Pokémon."

Once the player has obtained at least one of every Pokémon in Hisui (except for the Mythical Pokémon Darkrai and Shaymin), the player can return to the Temple of Sinnoh and play the Azure Flute once more. This time, a glowing stairway will appear, leading to the Hall of Origin. The player will enter the area, and see a large empty space. Then suddenly, Arceus will appear and challenge the player to battle. The Arc Phone becomes an infinite supply of Mysterious Balms. Like with frenzied Pokémon, the player must hit Arceus with balms until the gauge fully depletes.

Once the player defeats Arceus, Arceus will congratulate the player for successfully seeking out all Pokémon. Wishing to join the player on their journey, Arceus will then grant them a part of itself, as a Pokémon that the player can use in their party. Arceus will also give the player the Legend Plate.

Later, when the player returns to the Temple of Sinnoh, the Arc Phone will beep. Arceus will allow the player to have a rematch with Dialga or Palkia (regardless of which one the player originally faced) or Arceus itself.

After the player completes the Daybreak storyline, Arceus will call for the player's Arc Phone, requesting them to sleep in their home. In the player's dream, Arceus will reveal the Eternal Battle Reverie option for the player to test their skills and luck in a series of endless battles. The challenge ends when the player either loses or quits, and Arceus will leave behind various rewards based on the player's performance.

In all battles against Arceus, it will have the Legend Plate active, allowing it to change its type whenever it uses Judgment. During its first battle, Arceus will have zero effort levels. In all other subsequent matches, Arceus will have the full ten effort levels in all stats.

Reason: Description of attacks not complete

Arceus has two attack sequences. This is indicated by whether Arceus is glowing blue or red.

  • Arceus glows blue in the first sequence.
    • First, it will be sending shockwaves blasting outward from itself; simultaneously, a meteor will be regularly targeted at the player.
    • After a series of these attacks, it will aim six successive Judgment beams at the player.
    • Then Arceus will resume a few more series of shockwaves and meteors.
    • Next, Arceus will form several energy orbs around itself, signaling a large, undodgable explosion; and at the same time, it will be sending out slower-moving shockwaves. The player can cancel this attack by hitting Arceus with balms, eventually stunning it. Once Arceus is stunned, the player can send out a Pokémon to battle.
  • Arceus glows red in the second sequence. It will start this sequence once 25% of its gauge has been depleted, and it will return to the first sequence after its gauge is depleted by 50%.
    • First, it will teleport to a far side of the arena and begin charging an attack: the entire stage will start glowing red, except an area around Arceus, and will eventually detonate.
    • Next, Arceus will disappear completely; and a few seconds later, a crack in space will appear, and Arceus will quickly emerge from it to charge at the player in a straight line.
    • Arceus will then fire six Judgment beams, like in the first phase.
    • Arceus will then begin to initiate another full-stage explosion, which the player can cancel by hitting it with balms. After this, Arceus will become stunned, and the player can send out a Pokémon to battle.

Quotes

Beginning of the game
"Welcome to my realm, located beyond both time and space. It is well that thou art here. I am that which humans call Arceus."
"Now, I wish to know thine appearance."
"What is thy name?"
"All is correct and as it should be?"
"<player>... Soon thou shalt find thyself in a world strange to thee... A world inhabited by wondrous creatures that humans call “Pokémon.” <player>... Seek out all Pokémon, and thou shalt find me once more."
Arc Phone messages
  • After obtaining Arc Phone
"I bestow upon thee this Arc Phone and thy mission: seek out all Pokémon."
  • Multiple occasions during the game
"Seek out all Pokémon."
  • At Temple of Sinnoh after Mission 27 "The Deified Pokémon":
"What is thy wish?"
"Against whom wouldst thou do battle?"
"Which record wouldst thou see?"
"Show us thy might."
"Thou bested thine adversary in <time>."
"A victory most swift. Thou hast surpassed thyself and earned my blessing anew."
Temple of Sinnoh (Hall of Origin)
  • After being defeated for the first time
"Thou hast done well to seek out all Pokémon. Unflagging devotion to a goal shalt see it through... So hast thou proven by thine actions. Much as that ancient hero once did. He and the Pokémon that walked beside him. To see such truths proven anew, beyond the bounds of time and space, bringeth joy to me. I am glad that I chose thee to call to this world. As thou walkest onward upon thine own path... Upon thee...and upon this creation where thou now dwellest... I bestow my blessing. And I bestow upon thee a part of myself. I would walk this world together with thee. Show me how it appeareth in thine eyes."
