Penny (Japanese: ボタン Botan) is a character in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
In the core series games
Penny is a student at Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV, and is in the same grade as the player character. She has a shy personality, and is often absent from class. She always has her fluffy Eevee backpack with her wherever she goes. She possesses unparalleled skill with machines and computers. She is enrolled in the STEM track of the Academy, with her homeroom teacher being Tyme.
Her secret identity is Cassiopeia, the "big boss" of Team Star; none of the other bosses know of her true identity because she never left her room during her time with them. Afraid that her fellow bosses will be expelled from the Academy because of their involvement in the team but unable to forcibly disband the group herself, she recruits the player character into Operation Starfall to make them stand down.

Trivia
- Penny is the youngest villainous team leader from the core series.
- Penny's Student ID at the Academy is 803B121.
- Penny's home is in the Galar region.[1] Her hair resembles the colors on the box art of Pokémon Sword and Shield.
- All of Penny’s Pokémon are Eeveelutions, this makes her the first and only notable Trainer in the games to have a full team of six Eeveelutions.
- Penny considers her family to be "unbelievably annoying". She refers to her dad, who gives her nicknames such as "Pen-pen", as "loud and clingy" and "the most annoying guy in the world". In this aspect, she is similar to Peonia, who considers her father, Peony, with similar disdain.
- Penny's dorm room at the academy contains multiple references to the the events of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, different Pokémon species, and various real-world products, including Nintendo consoles.
- Penny's dorm contains multiple empty instant food packages, including cup noodles, energy drink cans, and cereal boxes.
- There is a shelf filled with magazines, three of which have covers picturing the Game Boy, the Nintendo GameCube and what appears to be a Nintendo DS Lite.
- There are three posters in her room, depicting Scizor, Palafin, and Cetitan, as well as a magazine with a Pikachu on the cover.
- There is a manga volume on a wardrobe, depicting a superhero that bears a resemblance to Magikarp.
- A framed photo of the Team Star logo can be seen above Penny's desk.
