In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.
For the duration of the event, a splash screen featuring art of Volo & Togepi and Cynthia & Garchomp was displayed when opening the game.
Plot
In search of mysterious stones, the player, Trevor, and Jacq visit the ruins. To their surprise, a man calls out to them. He introduces himself as Volo, an "ordinary merchant." He asks the three if they are looking for anything in particular, and Trevor shows him a picture of a mysterious stone using his Poryphone. As Volo begins to tell him that he has never seen one before, his Togepi exits from her Poké Ball.
Jacq is charmed by Togepi's cuteness, and Trevor uses his Poryphone again to check his Pokédex. Curious, Volo asks about the device. Jacq explains its ability to register any Pokémon. When Trevor tells Volo that it's his dream to register Pokémon from around the world in his Pokédex, Volo commends him for it. Jacq reveals that he created a Pokédex app, and that as a teacher, he wants to help students learn as much as they can about Pokémon. Intrigued by everyone, Volo invites them to a battle. The player sides with Volo against Jacq and Trevor.
After the battle, Volo asks Jacq to tell him more about the Pokédex. Jacq happily accepts, interested in getting to know Volo. Volo then tells the others of his interest in researching myths, saying he will gladly share information with Trevor to help him complete his Pokédex. Jacq is excited to introduce Volo to the others on Pasio, but Volo declines, mentioning he doesn't want to be seen by a certain person. When Trevor asks who it is, Volo doesn't elaborate. He tells the others he will see them later and casually leaves. Jacq is a bit confused, but he and Trevor are happy to become better friends with him.
In the square, Jacq teaches a group of children, including Trevor and the player, about Pokémon. A Poké Kid in the group asks him where Pokémon come from. As Professor Oak and Mew pass by in the background, Jacq starts by focusing on mythical Pokémon, specifically Mew. He describes Mew as something of a "blueprint" for all Pokémon, and how this leads it to be considered the first Pokémon.
When a Youngster asks where Mew came from, Jacq draws a blank. A voice comes to his aid, reciting the myth of Arceus's creation. The voice is revealed to be Volo's, and he approaches the group to teach everyone about how Arceus is believed to have formed life. The children are amazed, and Jacq encourages them to find their own answers to the mysteries of Pokémon.
After the class ends, Jacq thanks Volo for his help. As Volo compliments Jacq's teaching style, N overhears and joins the conversation. As the group discusses for a while, Togepi exits from its Poké Ball, to Volo's surprise. N is happy to see it, but when Togepi speaks back to him, he suddenly pauses. N notes that Togepi is "being well taken care of." Volo is confused, prompting Trevor to explain N's ability to talk to Pokémon. This fascinates Jacq, and N explains that Togepi told him that she is appreciative of the love and care Volo gives her. Volo mentions that his research involves caring for Pokémon, and that he is simply curious about Togepi.
Volo changes the subject back to N's abilities, and Trevor brings up that N's partner Pokémon are Legendary Pokémon from Unova. N brings out both Zekrom and Reshiram. Seeing that N can understand Legendary Pokémon, Volo asks if he can understand a supposed deity Pokémon as well. N is unsure, but mentions he would like to have the opportunity to meet one.
N suddenly realizes that he was supposed to deliver a mysterious stone to Professor Bellis. Volo asks about the stone, and N explains that they give off a great energy when reacting to the connection between a Trainer and their Pokémon. He holds one out for everyone to see. Volo wonders if the mysterious stones are being used like sync stones, but N says they are too unstable to use with Poryphones. As the group continues to discuss, Volo thinks to himself about the stone, determining that he will need to assist the people researching it.
The next day, Volo visits Colress and asks about his plans to utilize mysterious stones in Poryphones. As Colress explains how to keep the stones' powerful energy controlled, Volo smiles widely. Sometime later, Volo meets up with Jacq, Trevor, and the player again. He suggests to Jacq that he should use his skills as both a programmer and a teacher to help the process of integrating the stones into Poryphones. Volo even shows him a list of ideas for how he could go about it. The player and Trevor both encourage Jacq to do it, and he agrees. As the group begins to head toward Bellis's lab, Volo stays behind. He tells the others that he has plans to meet with some people, and they agree to talk later.
Alone, Volo considers what it's like to form a relationship with a person. He determines that it is important for someone to use another before they become the one being used. Volo's thoughts continue as the scene changes to the stadium, where Professor Bellis and Rei stand inside of a group. Volo is revealed to be at the stadium as well, vowing to himself to bring Arceus under his control to create a better world. He approaches the group ahead.

Jacq | Pokémon from all over the world are gathered here! |
Jacq | Whenever I see Pokémon from other regions, I can't help but observe them closely. |
Volo | Encountering unfamiliar Pokémon fulfills our intellectual curiosity! |
- Is There Something You're Looking For?
Name | Text |

(Jacq, the player, and Trevor arrive in the ruins) | |
<player> came to the ruins with Trevor and Jacq in search of mysterious stones... | |
Jacq | I sure hope we can find some of these mysterious stones around here. |
Trevor | According to multiple reports, they've apparently been found in Pasio's ruins. In other words, there's a good chance that we'll be able to find some, too! |
Jacq | I see... Now that's exciting! |
(Jacq, the player, and Trevor continue talking; Volo appears, walking some distance away, and turns to them) | |
??? | Excuse me, you three! |
(Jacq, the player, and Trevor are surprised and turn to face him) | |
??? | Looking for something? |
- The Merchant Who Loves Ruins
Name | Text |
---|---|
Trevor | Um... And you are? |
Volo | I'm Volo! Just an ordinary merchant! If there's something you're looking for, please let me know! You won't find a better bargain! |
Jacq | Ah, well, we're not really looking for something to buy. |
Trevor | We're searching for these odd stones that look like this. |
(Trevor's Poryphone floats up and turns its screen to Volo) | |
Volo | Hmm, I see... That is indeed something I've never seen before. |
(Trevor's Poryphone floats back to him) | |
Volo | Unfortunately, I don't have anything like that among my wares. |
(Volo's Togepi comes out of its Poké Ball) | |
Volo | It's not easy doing business in a new land, is it... |
Jacq | Aww, a Togepi! How adorable. |
Trevor | Let me look it up in my Pokédex real quick! |
(Trevor begins fiddling with his Poryphone) | |
Volo | What's that device you're using? |
Trevor | It's a Pokédex. You haven't heard of it? |
Volo | Wow! That's a Pokédex?! |
Jacq | It automatically registers Pokémon you encounter. |
Volo | Really?! How convenient! Simply venturing off to wherever your curiosity takes you, with your knowledge growing as you encounter Pokémon... Just the thought of that excites me! |
Trevor | Yes, I know what you mean! I want to travel to all kinds of places with my Pokédex! My dream is to register Pokémon from all around the world one day! |
Volo | Oh my! What a wonderful dream! I'm sure it won't be easy, but I look forward to seeing you complete your Pokédex one day! |
Trevor | Hehe, thank you! |
Jacq | What about you, Volo? Are you interested in the Pokédex? I actually developed a Pokédex app in Paldea. |
Volo | An...app? |
Jacq | Yep! I'm a teacher, too. So I want my students to use my app and learn more about our beloved Pokémon! |
Volo | I see... I understand now! You're all quite interesting! Oh, how you tickle my curiosity! Investigating the odd and novel is key to any good merchant's success! How about we see how our Pokémon stand up to one another in battle? That way, I can also test your knowledge, too! |
Jacq | Huh?! A battle, you say? |
Trevor | Sure thing!: You're really pumped up, <player>! |
Jacq | Of course I accept!: Wow, <player>! You sure are motivated. Well... I've got no reason to turn down this invitation—I'll give it my all too! |
Volo | Then let's split into two teams! |
(Volo and the player prepare to battle Jacq and Trevor) | |
Volo | Let the battle begin! |
(Transition to after the battle) | |
Volo | It's always fun battling with Pokémon! |
Jacq | Hehe. I had fun too! |
Volo | Mr. Jacq! I want to learn more about how you developed your Pokédex! Could I bother you again to discuss it? |
Jacq | Of course! I want to get to know you better, too. |
Volo | Why, thank you! I also research Pokémon myths as a hobby. So I'd like to share my knowledge with you and help you complete your Pokédex, Trevor! |
Trevor | Really?! Thank you! |
Jacq | We should introduce Volo to the others too. |
Volo | Oh, I appreciate the offer, but...I'd like to keep my presence a secret. There's someone I really don't want to be seen by on this island. |
Trevor | Really? Who could that be? |
Volo | Now, now! We've all got our reasons, don't we? Well then, see you in a few days! |
(Volo leaves) | |
Jacq | There's something about him that I can't quite put a finger on... But he does love Pokémon—that's for sure! |
Trevor | Yes! He seems very knowledgable too! |
Jacq | I hope I can become good friends with Volo! |
- Mr. Jacq's Outdoor Classroom
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Jacq leads Trevor, the player, and a group of kids into the square) | |
Jacq | Let's all have fun and learn a lot today! |
Poké Kid (1) | OK! |
Poké Kid (2) | Mr. Jacq! Where did Pokémon come from? |
Jacq | Hmm... That's a tricky question. |
(Professor Oak and Mew pass by in the background) | |
Jacq | Well, I suppose...I'll start off by talking about a certain Mythical Pokémon! |
(The camera rotates to show Professor Oak and Mew behind Jacq) | |
Jacq | That Pokémon is called Mew! Mew's genetic composition is said to possess the information of all Pokémon... Ah, in simple terms, "genetic composition" means something like a blueprint for an organism. It's been said that if the information of all Pokémon is written in that blueprint... then Mew must be the very first Pokémon—the ancestor of all Pokémon, basically! |
Poké Kid (1) | Ohhh! I see! |
Youngster | Then where did Mew come from? |
Jacq | Ahaha... Didn't see that one coming... If only Ms. Raifort were here to provide some historical knowledge to help me out... Um... So this is a story—well, more of a legend, really—that people from a long, long time ago would tell... |
(Fade to black) | |
??? | "In the beginning, there was only a churning turmoil of chaos. |
(Fade back to the square; Volo walks up behind the group) | |
??? | "At the heart of chaos, where all things became one, appeared an Egg. "Having tumbled from the vortex, the Egg gave rise to the Original One." |
Volo | This was Arceus, the creator of all things—the Pokémon known as a deity! |
Youngster | I dunno what that means, but it sounds cool! |
Volo | It does, doesn't it? Why, Arceus is said to be the creator of both humans AND Pokémon! |
Preschooler | Whaaat?! Pokémon created humans, too?! |
Volo | Legend says that Arceus is the origin of life! |
Jacq | As you can see, there are still lots of mysteries about Pokémon! And there still isn't a definitive answer to your question of where they came from. There are many other theories on this subject, so if you're interested, please feel free to do your own research after class today! |
Poké Kid (2) | OK! |
(Transition to after the class is dismissed) | |
Jacq | Hello, Volo! Thanks for your help today! |
Volo | It was no problem! I can't help chiming in on the subject of myths... Teaching can be surprisingly difficult... but you explained everything in a way the children could understand easily! I don't even know if they understood what I was talking about! |
??? | The origin of living things and Pokémon mythology... What interesting stories those were. |
(N appears) | |
N | I couldn't help getting absorbed in them. |
- The Trainer Who Can Understand Pokémon
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Square; N, Jacq, Trevor, Volo, and the player are talking) | |
N | I see... So your shared interest in the Pokédex is how you all know each other. |
(Volo's Togepi lets itself out of its Poké Ball) | |
Volo | Oh? Looks like Togepi wants to say hello, too! |
N | Hmhm... Nice to meet you. |
(Volo's Togepi cries out happily; N is thoughtful) | |
N | Oh... Sounds like you're being well taken care of. |
Volo | Hm? What's going on? |
Trevor | I heard that N can understand what Pokémon are saying. |
Volo | Truly? |
Jacq | Wow! WOW! What an amazing skill! What did Togepi say just now? |
N | She said she appreciates Volo for always taking good care of her... The sweetness of her voice speaks to Volo's love for her. |
Volo | ... ... ... Well, observing my Pokémon includes taking care of them, of course! I was just really curious to learn more about Togepi! More importantly, I'm interested in the fact that you can understand what Pokémon are saying! |
Trevor | Your partner Pokémon are Unova's legendary Dragon-type Pokémon, right? Zekrom!: The jet-black Pokémon that assists those who seek to make an ideal world! Reshiram!: The white Pokémon that helps those who seek to build a world of truth! |
N | Hmhm... That's right. If you'd like to get to know me better, it might help for you to meet my friends. |
(N sends out Reshiram and Zekrom) | |
Volo | What beautiful Pokémon! I would expect nothing less from Legendary Pokémon! ...And you can understand what they say as well, N? |
N | Yes, of course. |
Volo | In that case... what about a Pokémon that's considered a deity? |
N | Hmm... Good question. I'm not sure. I've never met a Pokémon like that. But I'd love to find out if I ever have the chance. Oh, no! I just remembered I was in the middle of doing something. I need to bring this mysterious stone to Professor Bellis. |
Volo | Mysterious stone? |
Trevor | I showed you a picture of it when we first met! |
N | According to Professor Bellis's research, they react to the bond between a Trainer and their Pokémon, similar to sync stones. And in the process, they release powerful energy. |
(N holds out his hand, and the stone shines) | |
N | This is the stone in question. |
Volo | Oh my! This is my first time actually seeing one in person... |
(Volo is shocked, then thoughtful) | |
Volo | What a fascinating stone indeed! If sync stones are already being put to practical use on Pasio... then I assume these stones are being utilized in a similar manner? |
N | No. Unlike sync stones, which can be integrated into our Poryphones... we haven't figured out a safe, controlled, and compact way to put these stones to practical use. |
Jacq | I see. Sounds like a real conundrum. |
(N, Jacq, Trevor, and the player continue to talk) | |
Volo | (If those stones are what I think they are...) (Looks like I'll need to lend a hand to the researchers here.) |
- A New, Better World...
Name | Text |
---|---|
(Lab; Colress is working at a whiteboard) | |
The next day... | |
(Volo approaches Colress) | |
Volo | I understand that you're helping to develop technology that will integrate those mysterious stones into the Poryphone! |
Colress | Well, you've certainly got your ear to the ground! Where did you hear this? |
Volo | I'm a merchant—getting the latest news is my forte! I heard it's been a challenge figuring out how to keep that technology both safe and compact! |
Colress | Yes, precisely! There are several ways we could approach this if we disregard safety altogether... But it's easier to collect data if the finished product is accessible to everyone! |
(Volo and Colress continue to chat) | |
Colress | In order to control the enormous energy released by the sync stone ultimate... |
(Volo grins; transition to Volo talking to Jacq, Trevor, and the player in the square) | |
Volo | I took it upon myself to conduct some research on those mysterious stones. Why don't you put your expertise to good use and help their integration, Jacq? |
Jacq | M-me? |
Volo | Yes, you! You're the developer of a Pokédex app, after all... and you're so good at teaching new concepts to others! Take a look at this! |
Jacq | Wow! You've written down so many ideas! |
Volo | I don't have expert knowledge on these devices, but I put together some ideas that seemed easy to apply from my mercantile perspective! I know I'm the one making the request, but I thought it might help you out! What do you say? Would you like to give it a try? |
Trevor | I agree with Volo! I'm sure you can do it, Mr. Jacq! |
Jacq | I think so, too!: Ahaha... You sure are putting high expectations on me! You should do it!: How could I say no after all this encouragement? |
(Jacq is thoughtful for a moment) | |
Jacq | All right! If it'll help everyone, I'll do it! |
Volo | That's the spirit, Jacq! |
Trevor | Let's head over to the lab right away! |
(Jacq, Trevor, and the player start to leave, but they stop when they realize Volo isn't following them) | |
Jacq | Huh? Aren't you coming too, Volo? |
Volo | I have plans to meet with some people after this. |
Jacq | OK, I'll see you later, then! |
Volo | Yes, see you. |
(Jacq, Trevor, and the player leave) | |
Volo | (Forming a connection with someone...) (In the end, it's just a matter of using them before they use you.) |
(Fade to black) | |
Volo | (That's why...) (I will never give up.) |
(Transition to Professor Bellis, Rei, and some others gathered in the stadium) | |
Volo | (Even if it takes me decades or centuries...) |
(Cut to Rei) | |
Volo | (Even if my desires are destroyed by a single outsider...) |
(Cut to Volo in the stadium) | |
Volo | (This time, I will finally succeed at subjugating Arceus...) (I will make the secrets of this world mine...and create a new, better world!) |
(Volo shakes his head and approaches the group) |
