The Ruins of Life first appeared in Trials and Determinations!, in which Ash, his classmates, and Professor Kukui passed through them on their way to the site of Ash's grand trial with Olivia. Olivia, after paying her respects to Tapu Lele at the altar in the ruins, joined the group at the battlefield located right next to the site, where she and Ash had their grand trial battle. The battle ended in Ash's victory, earning him a Rockium Z.
The ruins appeared again in Rising from the Ruins!. After Ash's Rockruff was saved from drowning in a river by Olivia's Lycanroc, it and Gladion's Lycanroc brought it to the Ruins of Life to be healed by Tapu Lele. When Ash, Olivia, and Professor Kukui arrived at the ruins while looking for Rockruff, Tapu Lele used Draining Kiss to absorb energy from the two Lycanroc and Ash, using it to heal Rockruff. Soon after, Rockruff evolved into a Dusk Form Lycanroc in the light of the setting sun's green flash.
In Full Moon and Many Arms!, Olivia was shown at the ruins, paying respects to the Blinding One as a part of the Manalo Festival. Tapu Lele was nearby, watching Olivia as she prayed.
The Ruins of Life reappeared once again in Run, Heroes, Run!, where Kiawe had to retrieve some scales from Tapu Lele in order to free Ash, Pikachu, Turtonator, and Marowak from a water veil that Tapu Fini had trapped them in. After battling Tapu Lele with his Charizard, Kiawe received the scales he needed.
In SM145, Ash and Kiawe visited the Ruins of Life to have a battle, which Olivia had agreed to referee. After an exchange of Z-Moves between Ash's Lycanroc and Kiawe's Charizard, Ash emerged victorious. Afterwards, Olivia told both Ash and Kiawe that they should learn to know the world outside of Alola to broaden their worldviews.

The Ruins of Life first appeared in The Wild Full-Power Pose of Fire. Gladion attacked Kiawe to learn where the ruins were located. After Sun and Moon found the injured Kiawe, they transported him to the ruins and healed his injuries. Fearing that Gladion would be too powerful to defeat by normal means, Kiawe taught Sun about Z-Moves and how to perform them. After some practice, Sun successfully mastered how to perform the pose for Inferno Overdrive.
Shortly after, the group was ambushed by Gladion, who exited the ruins with an unconscious Tapu Lele in hand. Due to injuries it sustained from a battle with a Xurkitree at Lush Jungle, Tapu Lele had to rest to heal itself, preventing it from retaliating. Kiawe attempted to lend his Z-Ring for Sun to use against Gladion, but it was destroyed by Gladion's Type: Null. Although Gladion claimed Sun couldn't defeat him even with the Z-Move, Kahili appeared and noted that if he truly believed that statement, he wouldn't have bothered destroying the Z-Ring to begin with. With her golfing skills, Kahili delivered Sun his own Z-Ring created by Hala.
Although Sun's Dollar's Inferno Overdrive didn't manage to defeat Type: Null in a single hit, it caused its confinement mask to start cracking. Gladion, fearing what would result from the mask breaking completely, chose to recall Type: Null and end the battle, even agreeing to leave Tapu Lele behind. After Sun had successfully delivered Tapu Lele the Mirage Berry that Moon had found for it, Tapu Lele challenged the group of Trainers to a battle. At first, none of their attacks seemed to even reach Tapu Lele, but after Dollar evolved into Torracat and managed to land at hit on it, Tapu Lele recognized their strength and left.
