Keanan (Japanese: ケンゾー Kenzo) is a recurring character who appeared in the Pokémon anime. He is a warden who watches over the Route 14 wetlands located between Lumiose City and Laverre City that is the original home of Ash's Goodra.
History
Keanan first appeared in Defending the Homeland!, where he was driving down the road with his Bellsprout, stopping to meet Ash and his friends after recognizing Ash's Goodra. He explained that Goodra was once a Goomy who lived in the wetlands, but was driven out following a Pokémon feud over a healing spring by a Florges and her army. Goodra's other friends were revealed to still be living in the wetlands, though now relegated to a remote corner. Keanan refused to interfere, stating that matters between Pokémon should be solved by Pokémon themselves. As such, he stopped Ash from helping Goodra when the Florges and her army attacked again. He did, however, approve of Ash and his friends cheering Goodra on.
When Goodra was mysteriously attacked and badly hurt by a Shadow Ball and a Psybeam coming out of nowhere, Keanan treated Goodra back at his house. He then went through video footage with Clemont to deduce where the Shadow Ball and Psybeam attacks had come from.
In Beyond the Rainbow!, Keanan met up with Ash and his friends when they went into the swamp to search for Pikachu, Dedenne, and Wooper, who had been abducted. Keanan told Clemont that there was something that had been bothering him for a while and thus would not go search with them. Keanan had studied the water levels of the healing spring and discovered it had been affected by an unknown source. He quickly went to Ash and his friends to alert them, only to find out that the culprits, Team Rocket, were already taking off with the water. After Ash and his friends defeated Team Rocket, Keenan checked the ground of the wetlands and concluded it had completely dried up. As such, it would never be as ideal for Pokémon to live at as it had been. Just at that moment, Goodra stepped forward and used Rain Dance, followed by Florges, who had switched allegiances, using Grassy Terrain. This caused the swamp to become lush again. Afterwards, Florges and her former army decided to live together with the other Pokémon. Keanan was also present when Ash released Goodra for it to live with its friends again and defend the wetlands.
In Master Class Is in Session! and Performing a Pathway to the Future!, Keanan watched Serena's Master Class Pokémon Showcase from Gloire City alongside Goodra and the other swamp Pokémon.
He reappeared in A Diamond in the Rough!.
In Valuable Experience for All!, Keanan drove Goodra to Lumiose City, where it rejoined Ash's party for the Lumiose Conference. He watched the Conference unfold from his television in Down to the Fiery Finish!. The group caught up with Keanan again in Facing the Needs of the Many!, where Ash returned Goodra to the wetlands following his Kalos League campaign.
Character
Keanan is compassionate, preferring to remain neutral and not to intervene with the wild Pokémon he watches over. He is equipped to handle any situation, and uses a surveillance network and regular patrols to keep watch over the wetlands.

Bellsprout is Keanan's only known Pokémon. It was good friends with Ash's Goodra when it was still a Goomy and before it was accidentally taken away from the swamp.
Keanan was driving down the road with Bellsprout when they drove past Ash and his friends taking a break. Even though Goomy had evolved twice since Bellsprout had last seen it, Bellsprout still instantly recognized it. It ran towards Goodra and they greeted each other happily. Although Goodra seemed somewhat hesitant to return to the swamp it used to live, it was persuaded by Bellsprout to go.
Bellsprout made a brief appearance in Master Class Is in Session! and Performing a Pathway to the Future!, watching Serena's Master Class Pokémon Showcase along with Keanan and the other wetland Pokémon.
It reappeared in A Diamond in the Rough! and then again in Valuable Experience for All!.
None of Bellsprout's moves are known.

- Main article: Ash's Goodra
Goodra was once a Goomy that happily lived in a swamp together with many other Pokémon. However, one day a Florges and her army attacked and took over their land. Florges came up to Goomy and attacked it. This caused it to be swept away, landing on the back of a Swanna and carried away from its homeland.
In A Slippery Encounter!, it fell of the Swanna and met Ash and his friends. It bonded with Ash and was caught by him. During its time with Ash, Goomy evolved twice. In Defending the Homeland! it finally returned to its homeland. It was reunited with its old friends and together, with help from Ash and his friends, they stood up against Florges, her army and Team Rocket and were ultimately victorious. However, during the battle, Goodra and its friends realized that Florges wasn't truly evil as they believed she was and her only motive was saving her daughter, Floette. When Team Rocket drained the swamp, Goodra and Florges revived it with Rain Dance and Grassy Terrain and the spring water returned. Once Floette was fully recovered, Florges and Goodra made amends and all is forgiven. Goodra then chose to leave Ash and stay at its homeland.

Multiple Swanna live near a spring in the swamp Keanan looks after.
They lived happily in peace with the other Pokémon living at the spring, when a Florges and her army attacked. Due to the ruckus that followed, a lot of Swanna panicked and left the swamp. When Goomy was swept away by Florges, it landed on the back of a Swanna and was taken away from the swamp. Some of the Swanna chose to stay at the swamp however, and went to live in a remote corner of the swamp, forced to live in obscurity.
In A Slippery Encounter!, the Swanna with Goomy on its back flew near Route 12, where it dropped Goomy off and it landed on Ash's head. In the same episode, Swanna also appeared in flashbacks.
In Defending the Homeland!, Goomy returned to the swamp, now as a fully evolved Goodra. One particular Swanna warned it and the other Pokémon living at the swamp that Florges and her army were attacking again.
In Beyond the Rainbow!, the swamp was saved from Team Rocket and Florges switched allegiances. The Swanna were able to return to their homeland, living happily in peace with the other Pokémon and Florges and her former army.
None of Swanna's moves are known.

Multiple Gulpin live near a spring in the swamp Keanan looks after.
They first appeared in flashbacks in A Slippery Encounter!, One for the Goomy!, An Oasis of Hope! and Good Friends, Great Training!, in Goomy's memories of how it was driven away from its homeland.
They lived happily in peace with the other Pokémon living at the spring, when a Florges and her army attacked. With little choice left, the remaining Gulpin and the other Pokémon went to live in a remote corner of the swamp, forced to live in obscurity.
In Defending the Homeland!, after a lot of time, the Goomy that used to live at the swamp returned to its old home. It had become a fully evolved Goodra and happily reunited with the Gulpin and the other Pokémon. The reunion was short-lived, however, as a Swanna warned them of another attack of Florges and her army. Led by Goodra, they went up against the army and proceeded to try to drive them away.

One particular Wooper that was good friends with Goomy was attacked by Florges together with Goomy during the raid on their homeland. It witnessed how Goomy was swept away, landed on the back of a Swanna, and was taken away from the swamp.
In Defending the Homeland!, Goomy returned, now as a fully evolved Goodra. Wooper heard it calling out for its old friends and approached Goodra. Even though at first it wasn't sure if it was the Goomy it used to know, it soon recognized and happily reunited with it. In Beyond the Rainbow!, it was saved by Ash and Goodra. After Goodra and Florges (who had switched allegiances) saved the swamp from Team Rocket and brought back life to the spring located in it, Wooper happily jumped on top of Goodra. - Main article: Florges (anime)
At first, Florges seemed like an evil Pokémon that drove Pokémon that lived peacefully in a swamp away for no particular reason. Some time before Defending the Homeland!, she managed to take over Goodra's homeland and swept away Goodra, who was then still a Goomy. In her conquest she was backed by a large army of strong Pokémon. The real reason why she had driven away Goomy and its friend was not revealed until later. She was taking care of her daughter Floette who was very ill, and the swamp Goomy and its friends lived in contained a spring with healing water.
She had also met with Team Rocket, who told Florges lies about Goodra and its friends and claimed they would help her in making Floette better. However, when Ash and Bonnie infiltrated the spring, Team Rocket revealed their true motives. They had really been planning on draining the spring and selling the rare healing water. Because of that, they were also indirectly responsible for Floette not getting better. From then on, she sided with Ash and Goodra and took down Team Rocket's airship. After they defeated Team Rocket however, the swamp had completely dried up. To make the swamp lush again, Goodra used Rain Dance, followed by Florges using Grassy Terrain. The healing water returned, and Florges bathed Floette in it to make it better. Afterwards, she continued to live in the swamp in peace together with her former army, Floette, Goodra, and the swamp's original inhabitants.

Floette is Florges's daughter.
Because of an unknown reason, she had become very ill. Florges cared so much for her that she conquered a swamp where a group of Pokémon lived peacefully just so she could access the spring with healing water located in the swamp. Florges tried to heal Floette in the water, but the tide had become low because Team Rocket was secretly draining the spring, causing the healing effect to be insufficient. Florges later sided with Goodra to defeat Team Rocket and together they brought back life to the spring. Bathed in the fresh healing water, Floette quickly became better. Following this, she jumped up and brought Florges and Goodra together, to celebrate that they had become friends. Afterwards, she continued to live in the swamp in peace together with Florges and her former army, Goodra, and the swamp's original inhabitants.
Floette made a brief appearance in Master Class Is in Session! and Performing a Pathway to the Future!,, watching Serena's Master Class Pokémon Showcase along with Keanan and the other wetland Pokémon.
