Wailmer (Japanese: ホエルコ Hoeruko) is a Water Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Wailmer (Japanese: ホエルコ Hoeruko) is a Water Pokémon.

It evolves into Wailord starting at level 40.
It evolves into Wailord starting at level 40.
Wailmer, along with Azurill and Kecleon, was one of the first Generation III Pokémon revealed, on March 7, 2001.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Wailmer is a spherical whale Pokémon with no tail. It has a dark blue topside and a tan underbelly with grooves. It has two fins that have finger-like appendages, baleen plates that resemble teeth, and a pair of nostrils on the top of its head functioning as blowholes.
Wailmer resembles a large spherical whale with no tail. It has a dark blue topside and a tan underbelly with groves. It has two fins that have finger-like appendages, baleen plates that resemble teeth and blowholes on the tops of their heads.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Wailmer stores water inside its body, which it expels through its nostrils to startle people. When storing water in its body, it can turn into a bouncing ball. The more water filling its body, the higher it can bounce. It becomes lethargic when it is dry. It swims with its mouth open and eats tons of food a day, such as Wishiwashi. It lives in the List of Pokémon by habitat, and can only live on land for a short amount of time. It occasionally bounces onto the beaches to play. On rare occasions, pods can be seen washed up on shore — a result of genetic memories of having once lived on land. Dhelmise and Sharpedo are natural predators to Wailmer, and Cetoddle is thought to be its close relative.
Wailmer can fill itself with water and turn itself into a bouncy ball. The more water it sucks in, the bouncier it becomes.

Behavior
Evolution
They usually frolic in the ocean waves, breaching and eating. They are known to be very playful Pokémon.
Wailmer evolves into Wailord.

Habitat
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)
They live in the ocean, but occasionally can bounce onto the shoreline.

Diet
Game data
They eat over a ton of food a day, which they filter with their baleen plates.
NPC appearances
Pokémon food
* Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Hitting the ball into Wailmer's mouth will activate Catch 'Em Mode on the Sapphire Field.
*Pokémon Channel: On the beach, the player can fish for Pokémon with the fishing rod and bait provided. Wailmer is uncommon, but if the player reels Wailmer to the shore, the player can see the tremendous size difference between Wailmer and Pikachu.
*Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia: Wailmer was seen in the 12th and 13th mission, being caught by the Team Dim Sun for their cargo ship. They were supposed to take Wailord, but they tried to bluff their way through by calling Wailmer a Wailord Mini.

Trivia
Trivia
*Wailmer, along with Azurill and Kecleon, was one of the first Generation III Pokémon revealed.
* Wailmer is the only Generation III Pokémon with a TCG card containing dot codes for an <!--unknown--> e-Reader application.
* In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Wailmer is the only Pokémon with a unique Surf model without any modified traversing features.
** This might be the cause of a glitch that freezes the game if the player is surfing on a Wailmer and it evolves after a battle caused by a Rod.
* Despite being found as an overworld spawn in Frigid Sea, Wailmer is not in the Crown Tundra Pokédex. It is the only Pokémon that can be found through random encounters in the Crown Tundra to not appear in this Pokédex.
* Despite being unobtainable in Scarlet and Violet, Wailmer is mentioned in the Pokédex entry for Cetoddle.

Origin
Origin
Wailmer is based on a whale with aspects of a beach ball, similarly to Azumarill.
Wailmer is based on a baleen whale with aspects of a beach ball.

Name origin
Name origin
Wailmer's name is based on whale. Wail may also refer to the sounds this Pokémon may create or refer to that whales sing or in this case, wail. Its Japanese name is literally 吠える子, bellowing child, but hoeru is similar in sound to the English word whale, making the meaning of its name whale child. Mer may come from the French word for sea.
Wailmer may be a combination of whale, wail (a prolonged cry), and mer (French for sea).

Hoeruko may be a combination of whale, 吠える hoeru (to bellow), and 子 ko (child).

Wailmer (Japanese: ホエルコ Hoeruko) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves into Wailord starting at level 40.

Wailmer, along with Azurill and Kecleon, was one of the first Generation III Pokémon revealed, on March 7, 2001.

Biology

Wailmer is a spherical whale Pokémon with no tail. It has a dark blue topside and a tan underbelly with grooves. It has two fins that have finger-like appendages, baleen plates that resemble teeth, and a pair of nostrils on the top of its head functioning as blowholes.

It lives in the sea, and can only live on land for a short amount of time. It occasionally bounces onto the beaches to play. On rare occasions, pods can be seen washed up on shore — a result of genetic memories of having once lived on land. Dhelmise and Sharpedo are natural predators to Wailmer, and Cetoddle is thought to be its close relative.

Evolution

Wailmer evolves into Wailord.

NPC appearances

 • Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Hitting the ball into Wailmer's mouth will activate Catch 'Em Mode on the Sapphire Field.
 • Pokémon Channel: On the beach, the player can fish for Pokémon with the fishing rod and bait provided. Wailmer is uncommon, but if the player reels Wailmer to the shore, the player can see the tremendous size difference between Wailmer and Pikachu.
 • Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia: Wailmer was seen in the 12th and 13th mission, being caught by the Team Dim Sun for their cargo ship. They were supposed to take Wailord, but they tried to bluff their way through by calling Wailmer a Wailord Mini.
