The Eeveelution wallpaper in Pokémon HOME

Eevee and its evolved forms are a group of Pokémon known for having the most members of any evolutionary line.

Eeveelution (Japanese: イーブイズ EVs) refers to any of the eight Pokémon that evolve from Eevee and may be extended to include Eevee itself. It is a portmanteau of the words "Eevee" and "evolution". The term "Eeveelutions" is often used by fans to refer to Eevee and its evolved forms collectively. Veevee (Japanese: ブイブイ Veevee) is a related term that usually refers to Eevee but has also been used in reference to its evolved forms.

Terminology

Eon Mail

"Eeveelution" was originally a fan term before being used officially as a pun in the Pokémon Stadium 2 guide. It was later used for the TCG Theme Deck Eeveelution and mentioned in the "Murphy's Ranger Contest" Quest in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. Additionally, "Eevee-Lu-Tion", referring to Lu the Eevee, is the title of the 31st chapter of Magical Pokémon Journey. The term is also used in official social media, such as for an Evolving Skies commercial.

"Veevee" was introduced with the Japanese name of the Eon Mail (Japanese: ブイブイメール Veevee Mail) in Generation II. The term was first used in English as the name of Y's Eevee in the Pokémon Adventures manga. In the core series, the first English usage was for the move Veevee Volley in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. In the Battle Tower from Pokémon Sword and Shield, Poké Kid Alex, who is dressed as an Eevee, mentions her "Veevee power". In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Masters EX, Penny uses the term "Veevees" to refer to her team of six Eeveelutions.

More commonly, Eevee's evolved forms are referred to by generic descriptions such as "Eevee Evolutions" or "Eevee's Evolutions" in official media, including Pokémon UNITE, Pokémon the Series, the TCG, and Pokemon.com.

Introduced in Generation I

In Generation I, only one Eevee is obtainable in-game, at the Celadon Mansion. It can evolve into Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon through the use of an Evolution stone.

Eevee

The Normal-type Eevee is Blue's first Pokémon in Pokémon Yellow and Trace's partner Pokémon in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!, as well as the player's partner Pokémon in Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!. It is also the player's first Pokémon in XD: Gale of Darkness and Conquest.

In Let's Go, Pikachu!, Trace will always evolve his Eevee into a Jolteon. The partner Eevee that the player receives in Let's Go, Eevee! cannot evolve, as it is a Partner Pokémon, but instead it has higher stats than a regular Eevee and can be taught special moves related to the types of the other Eeveelutions.

Eevee with the Gigantamax Factor are incapable of evolving, but can Gigantamax.

With eight, Eevee has the most branched Evolutions. As such, in case of multiple Evolutionary conditions being met simultaneously, the following is true: Leafeon and Glaceon are prioritized over Sylveon, and Sylveon is prioritized over Espeon and Umbreon.

Furthermore, Eevee will never evolve into:

• Any Eeveelution other than Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, as they are not present in those games.
• Espeon or Umbreon in Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, due to the absence of a day-night cycle.
• Leafeon or Glaceon in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, due to the absence of the areas required for the Evolution in either of the regions the games are set in.
• Sylveon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as it is not present in those games.

Vaporeon

Jolteon

Flareon

The Fire-type Eeveelution, Flareon, evolves from Eevee when exposed to a Fire Stone.

One of the partner Eevee's signature moves, Sizzly Slide, is inspired by Flareon.

Introduced in Generation II

Eevee is available relatively early in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, but keeps its rarity. Generation II introduced friendship and a day-night cycle, and alongside them, two new Eeveelutions that take advantage of the new mechanics: Espeon and Umbreon. Each of Ecruteak City's Kimono Girls owns one of the five Eeveelutions that existed in Generation II.

Eevee cannot evolve into Espeon or Umbreon in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, due to the absence of a day-night cycle. However, as both are present in the games, they can be legitimately obtained in a save file by trading an Eevee to Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, evolving it there, and then trading back, or by trading from Pokémon Colosseum or Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.

Espeon

The Psychic-type Eeveelution, Espeon, evolves from Eevee when leveled up with high friendship (220 before Generation VIII or 160 since) during the day, except in areas with a Moss Rock or Ice Rock, or if the evolutionary conditions for it to evolve into Sylveon have also been met. In Pokémon XD only, Eevee will evolve if the player has a Sun Shard in their Bag.

Espeon is one of Wes's first Pokémon in Pokémon Colosseum, alongside Umbreon.

Umbreon

The Dark-type Eeveelution, Umbreon, evolves from Eevee when leveled up with high friendship (220 before Generation VIII or 160 since) during the night, except in areas with a Moss Rock or Ice Rock, or if the evolutionary conditions for it to evolve into Sylveon have also been met. In Pokémon XD only, Eevee will evolve if the player has a Moon Shard in their Bag.

Umbreon is one of Wes's first Pokémon in Pokémon Colosseum, alongside Espeon.

One of the partner Eevee's signature moves, Baddy Bad, is inspired by Umbreon.

Introduced in Generation IV

After an entire generation with no new Eeveelutions, Generation IV added another pair of Eeveelutions, Leafeon and Glaceon, which are obtained by leveling Eevee up in certain areas—another departure from the methods of Evolution in previous generations. Since Generation VIII, however, they can also be obtained through the use of an Evolution stone.

Eevee cannot evolve into Leafeon or Glaceon in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, due to the absence of the areas required for its Evolution in either of the regions the games are set in. However, as both are present in the games, they can be legitimately obtained in a save file by trading in from Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

Leafeon

The Grass-type Eeveelution, Leafeon, evolves from Eevee when exposed to a Moss Rock or, from Generation VIII onwards, when exposed to a Leaf Stone. Eevee will always evolve into Leafeon when leveled up near a Moss Rock, even if the evolutionary conditions for it to evolve into Espeon, Umbreon, or Sylveon have also been met. The Moss Rock is not present in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Pokémon Sword and Shield, or Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

One of the partner Eevee's signature moves, Sappy Seed, is inspired by Leafeon.

Glaceon

The Ice-type Eeveelution, Glaceon, evolves from Eevee when exposed to an Ice Rock or, from Generation VIII onwards, when exposed to an Ice Stone. Eevee will always evolve into Glaceon when leveled up near an Ice Rock, even if the evolutionary conditions for it to evolve into Espeon, Umbreon, or Sylveon have also been met. The Ice Rock is not present in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Pokémon Sword and Shield, or Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and the Ice Stone is not obtainable in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

One of the partner Eevee's signature moves, Freezy Frost, is inspired by Glaceon.

Introduced in Generation VI

Once again, an entire generation passes by before the introduction of a new Eeveelution in Generation VI: Sylveon. Its reveal also introduced the Fairy-type to the public.

Sylveon

The Fairy-type Eeveelution, Sylveon, evolves from Eevee when leveled up while knowing a Fairy-type move and having high friendship. Prior to Generation VIII, it evolves from Eevee when leveled up while knowing a Fairy-type move and having at least two levels of affection. Eevee will evolve into Sylveon even if the evolutionary conditions for it to evolve into Espeon or Umbreon have also been met, unless it is near a Moss Rock or Ice Rock.

One of the partner Eevee's signature moves, Sparkly Swirl, is inspired by Sylveon.

Pokémon animated series

Eevee and its eight evolved forms in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon

In the animated series, the Eeveelutions have been featured together in several episodes, most specifically in The Battling Eevee Brothers under the possession of the Eevee brothers, which focused on the three Generation I Eeveelutions, as well as Eevee itself, and Trouble's Brewing under the possession of Sakura and the Kimono Girls, which focused on the five Eeveelutions there were as of Generation II, although Sakura's Espeon was still an Eevee during this episode. The seven Eeveelutions as of Generation IV were first featured together with an Eevee as a small cameo at the beginning of Giratina and the Sky Warrior. In the Pikachu short Eevee & Friends, it featured Eevee with all eight of its Eeveelutions as of Generation VI.

In To Train, or Not to Train!, the Eevee Evolution Lab is presented, a place specialized in researching Eevee and its Evolutions. Chloe received an Eevee from the lab's lead researcher, Pinery. From there, Chloe and Eevee started to find several Trainers who have at least one of the Eeveelutions.

• In On Land, In the Sea, and to the Future!, Chloe and Eevee met Kiley and his Vaporeon. She also received a Water Stone from him.
• In Night and Day, You are the Ones!, Chloe and Eevee met Soleil and her Umbreon and Espeon.
• In Breaking the Ice!, Chloe and Eevee met Regina and her Glaceon, nicknamed Mirche.
• In Suffering the Flings and Arrows!, Chloe and Eevee met Erika and her Leafeon.
• In Out of Their Elements!, Chloe and Eevee met Harmony and her Jolteon, nicknamed Bernice, and Billy and his Flareon, nicknamed Toril. She also received a Fire Stone and Thunder Stone from them, respectively.
• In Reuniting for the First Time!, Chloe and Eevee met Serena and her Sylveon.
• In Helping the Hometown Hero!, Chloe met Lana and Sandy, who introduced her to a new vision: that Eevee might want to remain in her base form.

Several important characters have owned Eevee which have gone on to evolve; other Eeveelutions have also been featured separately from their cousins.

Chloe's Eevee	Chloe	Chloe caught her Eevee in To Train, or Not to Train!. Chloe's Eevee is the first female of her species with a visible gender difference in the animated series. What makes her Eevee unique is that she is unable to evolve. The reason why is unknown.
Ilima's Eevee	Ilima	Ilima and his Eevee debuted in Turning Heads and Training Hard!. With the help of his Z-Ring and Eevium Z, Ilima and Eevee can perform the Z-Move Extreme Evoboost.

Vaporeon

Despite overwhelming Pikachu in the beginning of the match with its speed and power, as well as the strong connection between Trainer and Pokémon, it was still defeated by its opponent, earning Ash the Ability Symbol.

Johanna's Umbreon	Johanna	Johanna has an Umbreon that debuted in Strategy Begins at Home!. It joined Glameow to help train against its Trainer's daughter: Dawn. It later did the same in DPS01.
Gladion's Umbreon	Gladion	Gladion and his Umbreon debuted in A Glaring Rivalry!, and its usually walking alongside its Trainer. A flashback in the same episode reveals that Gladion had his Umbreon since it was an Eevee, after he found it injured near its house when he was younger.
Spinel's Umbreon	Spinel	Spinel's Umbreon debuted in The Future I Choose, under the ownership of Spinel and his main partner. It has since made further appearances in Pokémon Horizons: The Series.

Leafeon

Erika's Leafeon	Erika	In Suffering the Flings and Arrows!, Erika was revealed to have a Leafeon, Leafeon accompanied Erika during the Pokémon Flower Arrangement class. When Team Rocket tried to steal Ash's Pikachu, Erika used Leafeon to battle against them.

Glaceon

Cynthia's Glaceon	Cynthia	Cynthia used a Glaceon in All for the Love of Meloetta! to freeze part of a river. She and Ash then broke up the ice so it could be used to cool down a sick Meloetta. It is the first and, so far, only Eeveelution to be used by a Champion in the animated series.

In To Evolve or Not to Evolve, That is the Question!, Ash helped Mikey to defeat his brothers, each of whom possessed one of the original three Eeveelutions, in order for Mikey to join the Knights of the E Stone.

Pokémon Adventures

Vee was a Pokémon Team Rocket experimented on with the use of the "Eevee Bio-Engineering Scheme". This allowed Eevee to freely evolve into any of the Generation I Eeveelutions and then revert back into its original form. After some time under Red's ownership, Vee permanently evolved into an Espeon and lost this ability in the process.

Karen's Umbreon, first seen in the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc, used to be an Eevee.

The five Kimono Girls debuted in the HeartGold & SoulSilver arc. Each of them owns a different Eeveelution like their game counterparts. By the end of the arc, they had also acquired a Leafeon and a Glaceon.

Y in the X & Y arc caught an Eevee which she nicknamed Veevee and eventually evolved into Sylveon. This makes Y the second Pokédex holder to own an Eeveelution.

Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys

Bill in Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys has an Umbreon and Espeon, which he loaned to Gold and Black to fight against Team Rocket in Ecruteak City.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!

Mitsumi in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! owns a Glaceon, a Leafeon, an Espeon, and an Eevee who was held hostage by Cyrus for a brief time in order to force her to serve Team Galactic.

Phantom Thief Pokémon 7

Lily in Phantom Thief Pokémon 7 owns a Leafeon that was given to her by Nazuna.

Pokémon Pocket Monsters

Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon appeared seen in the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga.

In the TCG

In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, many sets featuring the Eeveelutions have been released. Commonly, all of them will be released within the same expansion set, much as Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon were originally released in the Jungle expansion.

Included with the Skyridge expansion, also, is a Theme Deck by the name of Eeveelution, which features the original three Eeveelutions as the focus. However, the deck only includes the three Generation I Eeveelutions: whereas Umbreon was released in the set, Espeon was not.

There have also been several deck archetypes that revolve around the Eeveelutions, mostly due to their versatility and their lack of a unanimous weakness. One of the most recent is Eeveelutions, which utilizes Pokémon-ex variants of all five then-known Eeveelutions. The use of this archetype has been assisted by the release of a great many Energy cards that provide more than one type of Energy, such as Rainbow Energy. In Majestic Dawn, Glaceon and Leafeon were introduced to the TCG; the set also included all previous Eeveelutions. Sylveon was first introduced into the TCG in Furious Fists (if the XY Black Star Promos and the XY Trainer Kit are not counted). The most recent expansion to include the entire Eevee line is Evolving Skies.

• Eevee's unique trait of evolving into different types can be traced back to a request made by Game Freak CEO Satoshi Tajiri to have a Pokémon that evolves into multiple types. Eevee itself was designed as a "blank slate" for its varied Evolutions.
  • Motofumi Fujiwara designed Eevee, Jolteon, and Flareon. Atsuko Nishida designed all of the other Eeveelutions.
• This is the largest evolutionary line with a total of 9 Pokémon. It has always been the largest evolutionary line in previous generations as well, starting with a total of 4 Pokémon in Generation I.
  • This is the only evolutionary line with more than 5 species.
• This evolutionary line has had new members introduced in the most generations (in this case, four generations).
  • This is the only pre-existing evolutionary line with a new member introduced in Generation VI (although several Pokémon received Mega Evolutions in this generation, and some Pokémon introduced in this generation also received new Evolutions later).
• This is the only branched Evolutionary line where any of the branches is a friendship Evolution (Eevee into Espeon, Umbreon, or Sylveon) or location-based Evolution (Eevee into Leafeon or Glaceon).
• This branched Evolutionary line has the largest number of options of stone Evolutions, in this case five different stones.
• This is the only evolutionary line where none of the members share a type.
• This was the first available branched Evolution line, with no other branched lines as of Generation I.
• Prior to the introduction of the Generation II games (including the breeding mechanic), obtaining all four Pokémon in the evolutionary line would require playing four saved Generation I games as far as Celadon City.
• In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, this is the only evolutionary line where some but not all of its members are obtainable in-game other than the trade Evolutions. Specifically, Eevee cannot evolve into Espeon or Umbreon in FireRed and LeafGreen or into Leafeon or Glaceon in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
• Eevee is the only member of this line to have an exclusive Z-Move and Z-Crystal.
• Flareon is the only member of this line with a type advantage over more than one of the others.

• All of Penny's Pokémon are Eeveelutions, making her the only notable character to use a full team of Eeveelutions.
• All Eeveelutions initially evolved using a method that was introduced in their respective generations.
  • Since Generation VIII, alternative methods of Evolution have been introduced for Leafeon and Glaceon, while Sylveon's Evolution requirement of affection was replaced by friendship.
• All Eeveelutions are of types that were considered special prior to Generation IV. The only special type not included is the Dragon-type.
• Espeon is the only Eeveelution not to have a type advantage over another.
• All Eeveelutions have a base stat total of 525.
  • Umbreon is the only Eeveelution not to have more than a 65 base Attack and Special Attack.
