When Ash and his friends entered the school, Earl danced around while wearing a tutu, much to the embarrassment of the group. However, upon learning that Miss Priscilla loved dancing people, Brock joined in and wore a tutu as well.
Later, Earl jumped in the way of Brock's flirting with Miss Priscilla, offering him a chance to stay at the academy, but Brock declined the offer. As Ash and his friends left the Pokémon Academy, Earl, Miss Priscilla, and the academy students waved goodbye to them together.

Trivia
- Earl is notable for changing the order of the words in his sentences, somewhat like Yoda from Star Wars, although his grammar is generally incorrect. For example, when asking a potential student if they want to learn from him, he will ask, "What you want to know? Want to be a winner is you?" This may be a reference to the Engrish used in the NES game Pro Wrestling, where the phrase "A WINNER IS YOU" is shown at the end of a winning match. Earl does not talk like this in Pokémon Stadium 2, which may be due to the quite extensive scope of the Pokémon academy in this game.
- In the German version of Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Earl is portrayed with a French accent on top of his incorrect grammar. This is dropped in the German version of Pokémon Stadium 2, similar to the case in the English translation.
- In the Brazilian Portuguese translation of Pokémon Adventures, Earl is also portrayed with a French accent and incorrect grammar.
- In the German version of Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Earl is portrayed with a French accent on top of his incorrect grammar. This is dropped in the German version of Pokémon Stadium 2, similar to the case in the English translation.
- Earl's Japanese name is Giovanni, the English name of the well-known Team Rocket boss.
- Earl's last name is "Dervish", a word in the English language, which can mean (among other things) "One that possesses abundant and often frenzied energy". This serves to reinforce the idea of his eccentric personality. It could also be a nod to the phrase "whirling dervish," as while leading the player to his school during Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, he twirls around at every turn along the way and whenever the player talks to him.
