Hobbes (Japanese: ジェイムズ James) is a recurring character who appears in the Pokémon anime. He is a butler to Lillie and her family at their mansion in Hau'oli City. He first appeared in Lillie's Egg-xhilarating Challenge!.

History

Hobbes debuted in Lillie's Egg-xhilarating Challenge!, where he was shown welcoming Lillie at her mansion. He later had a battle with Ash, using his Pom-Pom Style Oricorio against Ash's Rowlet. He also helped to fight off a wild Salandit that had entered Lillie's room.

In Alolan Open House!, Hobbes visited the Pokémon School as part of the Visiting Day.

In A Glaring Rivalry!, Hobbes and Lillie arrived at where Gladion was. He asked him to spend some time at the mansion but Gladion left. He later explained to Ash that in the past, he was cleaning at the Mansion when Gladion came to him having found an injured Eevee and was asked to help it. Hobbes said he took the Eevee to Nurse Joy.

In The Ol' Raise and Switch!, Hobbes had a battle with Lillie to help her get over her fear of touching Pikachu.

Hobbes appeared during a flashback in A Masked Warning! and physically in Night of a Thousand Poses!, Faba's Revenge!, and Family Determination!. In The Professors' New Adventure!, he attended the wedding of Professor Kukui and Professor Burnet.

In The Dex Can't Help It!, Hobbes helped protect Lillie from Rotom when it took on the form of a Mow Rotom; and in a fantasy in Real Life...Inquire Within!.

Hobbes made a brief appearance in SM078 in the Poké Problem segment, where he was watching Lillie practice her Poké Ball throwing.

In A Young Royal Flame Ignites!, Hobbes was watching the Battle Royal along with Lillie.

Hobbes briefly appeared during a flashback in Filling the Light with Darkness!, where Lillie revealed he suddenly fell asleep due to the effects of a Necrozma, which happened while he was seeing her off to school.

In Lillier and the Staff!, Hobbes watched Lillie perform in the school play and recorded it on camera.

In Don't Ignore the Small Stufful!, Hobbes arrived at Professor Kukui's house to pick up Ash.

In Keeping Your Eyes on the Ball!, Hobbes was watching Kahili play a round of PokéGolf on TV.

Hobbes briefly reappeared in SM114.

In SM116, Hobbes opened up a secret room inside Lillie's estate that led to Mohn's old room.

Hobbes briefly reappeared in SM123.

In SM124, Hobbes was preparing to cut the grass when a Kartana unexpectedly appeared and cut the grass for him.

Character

Hobbes is a loyal butler, happily serving Lillie and her family as well as her friends who visit. Lillie has stated he is the best battler among the staff, which is evident in Lillie's Egg-xhilarating Challenge! and The Ol' Raise and Switch!, when he battled Ash and Lillie, respectively. He is supportive of Lillie over her fears of touching Pokémon, as evident in Lillie's Egg-xhilarating Challenge!, when he asked Pikachu to remain outside before apologizing when Lillie said it was okay.

Oricorio is Hobbes's only known Pokémon. It was used in Lillie's Egg-xhilarating Challenge!, where it battled Ash's Rowlet and won. It was later used to fight off a wild Salandit who was causing trouble for Lillie.

Oricorio was later used in a battle against Ash's Pikachu, which was under Lillie's command in The Ol' Raise and Switch!. During the battle, Lillie was able to conquer her fear of touching Pikachu and win.

In The Dex Can't Help It!, Hobbes sent Oricorio out to protect Lillie from Rotom.

Oricorio's known moves are Revelation Dance, Mirror Move, Teeter Dance, and Double Slap.
Oricorio has also used Tackle* via Mirror Move.
