Additional effects include recoil damage, stat changes, inflicting status conditions and HP draining. Some moves can also have two additional effects. For example, {{m|Flare Blitz}} has a chance to burn the target, but also causes recoil damage to the user.

Additional effect (Japanese: ついかこうか) is the in-battle secondary effect of damaging move that cause extra change to the user or the target.

A move with additional effect includes stat changes or inflicting status condition with a chance of occuring. Some moves can also have more than one additional effect, such as Tri Attack which has a chance to either burn, paralyze, or freeze the target.

There are three Abilities that affect the additional effect. Serene Grace doubles their chances of occurring when the user attacks (up to 100%), Sheer Force removes them when the user attacks for a damage bonus, and Shield Dust removes them when the user is attacked.

Moves that always lower the user's stat changes such as Overheat and Close Combat are not treated as moves with additional effect, since these moves are not affected by the Abilities listed above.
