Trivia

Origin

Lt. Surge's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Lt. Surge uses Voltorb during his Gym battle with the player in the Kanto-based core series games, while doing the same with Electrode in the Johto-based core series games. Voltorb and Electrode's Dex entries come from Pokémon Ruby and Omega Ruby.

Raichu is Lt. Surge's signature Pokémon in the core series games and the anime, being his highest-level Pokémon in the Kanto-based games. Raichu's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
