Story events[note 1] (Japanese: エピソードイベント Episode Event) are a type of limited-time event in Pokémon Masters EX. They feature a storyline that focuses on one specific or multiple specific sync pairs, and new area info for the story is unlocked by completing single-player battles. They originally featured co-op battles that rewarded the player with vouchers that could be exchanged in the shop for items, but these were dropped by July 2020 in favor of earning event items from single-player battles.
Story events have been presented in three different formats, featuring either an exchange shop, event maps, or a prize box.
Some specific types of story events include seasonal events, costume events, and Neo Champions events[note 2].
Format
Most story events feature a limited-time exchange menu in the shop. Players can earn event items by completing battles, which can then be exchanged for rewards in the shop. Most story events have only one kind of event item that can be earned, but some story events have two, three, or even four different types of items to collect. In most of these cases, different items are obtained by completing different battles of equal difficulty.
Shining Star introduced event maps, in which players earned travel tokens from battles that allowed them to travel to different spaces on the event map, collecting items and new area info for the story. This event format was dropped after July 2021, with reruns of events that previously used event maps utilizing a shop exchange or a prize box instead.
The prize box, which was introduced in the legendary event Pure Hearts and Rainbow Wings, was introduced to story events with The Star of the Contest. In this format, players earned Prize Coins from battles which were used to make pulls in the prize box, with its prizes including new area info for the story. While less common than shop exchanges, this format is still occasionally used for story events.
Seasonal events
A common type of story event is the seasonal event (Japanese: 季節限定のイベント Seasonal Limited Event). These events are held every year around certain holidays or times of the year, and they feature two sync pairs wearing special outfits to celebrate the occasion. Currently, there have been sync pairs released for six different seasonal celebrations:
Occasion | Time of year | Years a new event was held | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Fall | Late October | N/A | ✔ | ✔ | ✔ | ✔ | N/A |

While sync pairs released to commemorate anniversaries have the Seasonal Outfit theme skill, their events do not rerun annually and are not considered seasonal events.
List of story events
All events listed below began at 06:00 UTC on the date listed in the start date column and ended at 05:59 UTC on the date listed in the end date column, with one exception. The first run of We Should Battle!, featuring Nemona & Pawmot, began at 13:00 UTC coincide with the Pokémon Presents livestream that began at that time. Additional dates listed in each cell indicate the dates of reruns.
