(→‎Kanto: I believe it's good to specify that Route 4 and 10 fly spots are ONLY in FRLG games (I don't know about LGPE, if someone can confirm and add it, please..), it wasn't possible to fly to them in RBY nor GSC. Also, Sevii Islands are only present in FRLG games, so I think they should be specified too (these ones may be questionable though, I'd understand if they aren't needed and get removed, but the Route 4/10 specification *should* exist imo))

Reason: Flight maps for each game

Leaf using Fly

Flight is a mechanic in the core series Pokémon games, used to instantly travel to previously visited locations.

The flight mechanic varies depending on the game.

In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, the player can also fly over obstacles using certain flying Pokémon. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player can glide using the Ride Pokémon Braviary, while in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the player can glide using KoraidonS or MiraidonV.

Mechanics

Generations I to VI

Players can fly to locations they have visited using the HM move Fly. Usually a certain Gym Badge is required to use the move outside of battle. Most possible Fly destinations are places with Pokémon Centers, primarily cities and towns, but other significant locations can be flown to as well. Using Fly usually lands the player in front of an area's Pokémon Center. If the location lacks a Pokémon Center, an otherwise suitable spot is used.

Generally, simply entering a flyable location is all that is required to be able to use Fly for that location. There are some exceptions, however, such as Opelucid City in Pokémon Black and White where the player must first view the Team Plasma event, Lacunosa Town in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 where the player must first encounter Professor Juniper and Bianca, and Ever Grande City in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald where the player must first climb the waterfall. The Johto Battle Frontier, by contrast, can automatically be accessed after the National Pokédex is obtained.

In Generation I and II, when a Pokémon uses Fly outside of battle, its overworld sprite is the same as the icon seen in the party.

In Generation II, the player cannot use Fly to move between Kanto and Johto. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, players can fly to either region by first flying to the Indigo Plateau or Route 26, then to the other region.

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the player can also fly to any route or landmark directly, in addition to cities and towns. When the player flies to a route or a landmark, they will land in front of a sign that marks the area (if there is one). If the location lacks both a Pokémon Center and a sign for the location, another suitable spot is used. Additionally, the player can soar through the sky on Mega LatiasAS or Mega LatiosOR, and can land in any previously visited location.

Generation VII

In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, players can fly to previously visited locations using the Poké Ride Charizard Glide. The map displayed when using Charizard Glide breaks each island up into areas, which are what are displayed on the top screen on the Charizard Glide flight map. The area a location is located in may not be the same as the location flown to. In addition, each flight point has a specific name, which may or may not correspond to the actual location flown to.

In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, players can fly to previously visited locations using the Secret Technique Sky Dash. The player can also ride on the back of certain flying Pokémon, such as Charizard and Dragonite, which allows the player to fly over water and other obstacles.

Generation VIII

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, players can use the Flying Taxi to travel to previously visited locations, free of charge. The player will be granted access to the Flying Taxi after the opening ceremony for the Gym Challenge in Motostoke Stadium, after which they can use the taxi from the Town Map or Habitat screen of the Pokédex. The player cannot call the Flying Taxi in caves or buildings. In addition to the Flying Taxi the player regularly uses, there is a local Flying Taxi in Wyndon, located in front of the Rose of the Rondelands hotel and in front of Wyndon Stadium. This taxi will take the player to and from the two aforementioned locations, the Monorail Station, and (after the player becomes Champion) the Battle Tower. The Flying Taxis in Galar are pulled by a Corviknight.

In Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, locations in the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra will start to unlock for the Flying Taxi, which can freely travel anywhere in one trip.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the field usage of the move Fly returns through the use of the Pokétch's Hidden Moves app. A wild Staraptor is summoned by the app to perform the move.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player can fast travel to previously visited locations using the map in the Arc Phone. The player can only travel to locations within the same area; visiting a new area requires first going to Jubilife Village and then visiting the new area. Additionally, using the Ride Pokémon Braviary, the player can glide through the sky and travel long distances over the map.

Generation IX

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Flying Taxis are available to the player from the Rotom Phone's map app as soon as it is obtained. Unlike in Pokémon Sword and Shield, Flying Taxis can be used in caves. The Flying Taxi in Paldea can also enter Area Zero, a place most people are forbidden from entering. The Flying Taxis in Paldea are pulled by a flock of Squawkabilly. When a town is visited, any Pokémon Centers within it will be unlocked to travel to. Additionally, the player can glide over the map for short distances using the partner Koraidon's Gliding BuildS or Miraidon's Glide ModeV.

In The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, the Flying Taxis are pulled by a flock of Noctowl in Kitakami and a pair of Skarmory at Blueberry Academy in Unova. Travelling between Paldea, Kitakami and Blueberry Academy is referred to as flying taxi in-game, but uses an icon of a plane. After completing the main story of The Indigo Disk, the player can unlock the ability for KoraidonS/MiraidonV to fully fly for longer distances and heights.
