Ash's Mr. Mime (Japanese: サトシのバリヤード Satoshi's Barrierd) is a Mr. Mime belonging to Ash and Delia Ketchum that resides with Delia at their home in Pallet Town. Delia refers to it by the affectionate nickname Mimey (Japanese: バリちゃん Barri-chan). It is the twelfth overall Pokémon that Ash obtained in the Kanto region. During Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Mimey stayed with Ash at the Cerise Laboratory. It usually stays outside its Poké Ball.

History
Original series
Mimey debuted in It's Mr. Mime Time. Ash and his friends first saw Mimey using its Psychic powers to climb an invisible barrier that it created. Ash wanted to catch it, but a ringmaster named Stella wanted to catch it as well to inspire another Mr. Mime that worked on her circus. In the chaos, Mimey got away. Brock decided to help and had Ash dress as a Mr. Mime to help instead. When Delia and Professor Oak went to the circus, they found out about the plan. When the wild Mr. Mime Ash and his friends saw earlier came to her door, Delia thought it was Ash in costume, and provided it with food. When the real Ash showed up, still in costume, she was quite puzzled. It then teamed up with Delia to help stop Team Rocket from stealing all the Pokémon in Stella's circus. Ever since then, Delia has adopted it and affectionately nicknamed it "Mimey". It was officially captured by Ash sometime offscreen after this.
In The Rivalry Revival, Mimey helped stop Team Rocket from getting away with Pikachu.
In Bulbasaur... The Ambassador!, Mimey served food to the Pokémon at Professor Oak's Laboratory working on the construction of a new lake.
From A Claim to Flame! onwards, Mimey and Delia watched Ash's participation in the Silver Conference.
Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire and Pokémon Chronicles
In Showdown at the Oak Corral, Mimey helped ward off Butch and Cassidy from Professor Oak's Laboratory.
In Journey to the Starting Line!, Mimey helped save the life of a Charmander that had fallen into a lake using Psychic to pluck it and Tracey out of the water.
An ill Mimey appeared in Shocks and Bonds, being tended to by Delia as they watched Ash's battles in the Ever Grande Conference.
In The Scheme Team, Mimey greeted Ash during his return to Pallet Town from Hoenn.
In The Right Place and the Right Mime, Mimey was seen sweeping Ash's house before answering the door for May.
In Home is Where the Start Is!, Mimey welcomed Ash back to Oak's lab.
Pokémon the Series: Black & White
In The Dream Continues!, Mimey was overjoyed to see Ash and Pikachu return to Pallet Town.
Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon
In Alola to New Adventure!, Mimey joined Ash and Delia on their holiday to Alola, where it was revealed that it was responsible for winning their tickets.
In Alolan Open House!, Mimey accompanied Delia back to Alola. The two visited the Pokémon School during the Visiting Day.
In Alola, Kanto!, Mimey welcomed Ash back when he, his classmates, Samson Oak, and Professor Kukui arrived in Pallet Town.
In Lillier and the Staff!, Mimey accompanied Delia to Alola so they could watch Ash perform in the school play and videoed the play.
In Final Rivals! and Enter the Champion!, Mimey accompanied Delia and Professor Oak to Alola so they could watch and record Ash as he competed against Gladion during the Manalo Conference.
In Z-Move Showdown!, the closing ceremony of the Manalo Conference was disrupted by the appearance of a Guzzlord. Mimey accompanied Delia and Professor Oak as they tried to leave, only for a Shiny Guzzlord to block their way. However, it was quickly seen off by Professor Kukui and Ash.
From Exhibition Unmasked! to From Z to Shining Z!, Mimey watched the full exhibition match between Ash and Professor Kukui.
Pokémon Journeys: The Series
In Legend? Go! Friends? Go!, Mimey traveled with Delia, Ash, and Professor Oak to Vermilion City to attend the opening of the Cerise Laboratory. After Ash and his new friend Goh encountered a Lugia and reported this to Professor Cerise, Cerise decided to make Ash and Goh his new research assistants and gave them a room at the lab. Delia then decided to leave Mimey at the lab so it could watch over Ash.
In Serving Up the Flute Cup!, Mimey led a session of kung fu exercises for Goh, Chloe, and Professor Cerise. Later, Ash was revealed to have added Mimey to his party in preparation for the Battle Frontier Flute Cup, much to Goh's surprise. It was used to battle Hodge's Hariyama in the finals and easily won. When Hodge sent out his Mightyena next, Mimey immediately refused to battle it, forcing Ash to switch it with Pikachu.
Ash used Mimey as Riolu's training partner in Panic in the Park! and Toughing It Out!.
In Betrayed, Bothered, and Beleaguered!, Mimey was reunited with Delia when she came by to visit Ash. However, as Delia left, Mimey learned that Pikachu, who had been feeling neglected by Ash lately, was planning on leaving with her and tried to stop him. When Pikachu refused, Mimey decided to accompany him to Pallet Town. During their journey, Mimey was attacked by a group of Spearow, but Pikachu saved it by using Thunderbolt. By the time they arrived in Pallet Town, Pikachu had changed his mind and turned back to return to Ash, only to find out that Ash had come to Pallet Town looking for him.
In Battling as Hard as Stone!, Mimey was seen watching Ash's Masters Eight Tournament match against Steven.
In JN119, Mimey and Chrysa gave a presentation at Cerise Laboratory about the "Seven Wonders of the Laboratory"; the theme of the presentation was about Chloe's Eevee and her evolved forms.
In Partners in Time!, Mimey appeared as a vision to Pikachu during his battle against Leon's Charizard.
In This Could be the Start of Something Big!, Mimey attended a surprise party hosted by the Lab members commemorating Ash and Goh's departure, during which it posed for a group photo. After the party, Mimey returned to Pallet Town with Delia.
Personality and characteristics
At first, Mimey only listened to Delia and if anyone else gave it orders or asked it to do something, it normally ignored them unless told otherwise by Delia. It greatly enjoys doing the household chores around the Ketchum home and does not like sharing its job with others. When Ash, Misty, and Tracey returned to Pallet Town following their journey through the Orange Archipelago, it was revealed that Brock and Mimey had become rather competitive regarding household tasks while the two of them were sharing the house with Delia. It is also protective of Delia's property and will quickly spring into action to defend it, as seen in The Rivalry Revival where it used Light Screen to keep Team Rocket from trampling her garden. As shown in Ivysaur's Mysterious Tower!, Mimey can perform tasks such as cleaning and vacuuming by pantomiming. It was later shown "eating" with Ash and Goh by pretending to peel and eat a banana.
Ash was somewhat envious of Delia's affection for Mimey; Delia once described it as more polite and helpful compared to Ash. He also became annoyed when Delia took its side after it had woken him up by using the vacuum on his face. Despite this, Ash and Mimey are on good terms, with Mimey happily accepting Ash's friendly greetings on his return trips to Pallet Town. Ash in particular is glad that Delia has Mimey as a housemate, as while he is on his journey, his mother will have company at home and will never be lonely.
In Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Ash was revealed to be a good partner for Mimey in Pokémon battles as well. In Serving Up the Flute Cup!, Ash was able to take advantage of Mimey's unusual flexibility and defensive capabilities to withstand the assault of Hodge's Hariyama in the finals of the Battle Frontier Flute Cup. However, Mimey is not as reliable as some of Ash's regular Pokémon, as shown as when it immediately called it quits after their first victory as a team. As revealed in a caption in JN128, Mimey sees Ash's Lucario as its pupil and prides itself for that, as they often trained together while the latter still was a newborn Riolu. In addition, Mimey tends to be the voice of reason whenever there is conflict.

Trivia
- Mimey is Ash's first Psychic-type Pokémon, and the only one that is officially owned.
- While it is unknown how exactly Mimey came into the ownership of Delia, some Japanese supplementary material list it among the Pokémon Ash has caught. Whether this means that Mimey is a Pokémon Ash caught and gave to his mother, or a Pokémon belonging to him that he keeps at home is unknown.
- During Pokémon Sunday on June 27, 2010, Ryūmi Akiyama, Hiroyuki Baba, and Hiroshi Yamamoto chose Mimey in their ideal team for Ash.
- This Pokémon the Series: Black & White-era website released during the Best Wishes! Season 2 arc lists Mimey as one of Ash's Pokémon from the original series along with the Raticate from Battle Aboard the St. Anne.
- Heisei History of Pocket Monsters: From Tuesday to Thursday, and Then Sunday (a recap special of Ash's adventures that aired during Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon) lists Mimey alongside other Pokémon Ash had temporarily, such as the aforementioned Raticate, the Beedrill from The Bug Stops Here, and the Seaking from Hook, Line, and Stinker.
- Tweets from January 5, 2020 and October 13, 2022 by the official Japanese anime Twitter account refers to Mimey as one of Ash's Pokémon.
- Mimey is the first Pokémon owned by Ash to be given a nickname, albeit only by Delia in the original version (in the English dub, however, Ash also uses the nickname).
- Mimey is Ash's only Pokémon that:
- Is a Fairy-type.
- He shares simultaneously with someone else.
- Has a pink color in the Pokédex.
- As its Fairy-type was explicitly shown in the Japanese Who's That Pokémon? segment and in Poké Problem extra scene of SM024, Mimey is the first recurring Pokémon confirmed to have its type changed in the anime.
- Out of all of Ash's Pokémon that have been seen battling, Mimey has gone the longest without being used in battle by Ash after its debut, at 1,028 episodes.
- Mimey has been used in the least amount of battles under Ash's command, being used in battle only once.
- Starting in Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Mimey has a tendency to communicate with humans by miming, a possible reference to the Mr. Mime that appeared in Detective Pikachu.
- Mimey was the final role that Kayzie Rogers performed prior to her retirement.
- Mimey is referred to as a female in the Brazilian Portuguese dub of Alola to New Adventure!.
