The subject of this article has no official name. The name currently in use is a fan designator; see below for more information. |
Egg Pokémon is a fan term used to describe Pokémon hatched from Eggs.
Eggs (Japanese: タマゴ Egg) were first introduced by Professor Bellis in Pokémon Masters EX on April 27, 2020. They provide an additional method for the player character to form sync pairs―in this case, with Egg Pokémon.
The player receives their first Egg as a gift from Professor Bellis with the player choosing an Egg of Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. Eggs can also be obtained from the training area or from special Egg events that feature time-limited Egg Pokémon of certain types. Eggs were also previously obtainable from the Battle Villa and the PML Arc.
Mechanics
Eggs can be obtained in three rarities—1★, 2★, and 3★. To hatch an Egg, it must first enter an incubator. Then the player waits for 6, 8, and 12 hours respectively before the egg hatches.
The Eggstreme Pass was later introduced as part of Version 2.15.0 (Released on November 24, 2021). At the cost of 500 paid gems, the pass will half the time in which all eggs hatch, even those already in incubators.
Up to four Eggs can be incubated at a time in Bellis's lab with only one incubator being unlocked for free at the beginning. An additional incubator can be purchased for 300 paid gems. By purchasing the Eggcelerator Pass, which costs 500 paid gems, the player gets 14-day access to the third incubator and an auto-incubate feature. The fourth incubator is only available during Egg events (for 14 days), but it's always free. Plus, if the third/fourth incubator would disappear but it still holds an egg, then that incubator will stay until that egg hatches instead.
All other Eggs yet to be incubated are stored in the Egg Box, where up to eight can be stored at one time (four of these require purchase of the Egg Box Expansion, which costs 120 paid gems). When an incubator becomes available, the player manually chooses which Egg to enter it next.
If the player has the Eggcelerator Pass active, then they gain access to the Auto-incubate feature. When all incubators are in use, this feature lets the player choose up to eight Eggs to enter incubators automatically as soon as they become available again. Also, starting with Version 2.19.0, if that player also expanded their Egg Box, then this feature lets them choose up to eight Eggs instead. The Auto-incubate feature even expands the duration of the third incubator's presence if an Egg selected for auto-incubation would enter that incubator. (This does not work on the fourth incubator, though.)
Egg Pokémon
When an Egg hatches, the Egg Pokémon is stored in the Day Care, where up to 500 Pokémon can be stored. Once a player forms a sync pair with an Egg Pokémon, that Pokémon will be taken out of the Day Care. There is no limit to the number of sync pairs the player can form, but only one of each hatched species can be part of an active sync pair at a time. If the player forms a new sync pair with an Egg Pokémon while being in a sync pair with another Egg Pokémon of the same species, then the formerly paired species will return to the Day Care.
Egg Pokémon can have Strike, Support, or Tech roles—with the exception of the gift Kanto starter Pokémon received from Professor Bellis (which all have Strike roles). The move sets and passive skills of each pair are different depending on their role. All Eggs hatch with one through three passive skills. Shiny Pokémon always have three passive skills, but all Shiny variants of each species can only have one specific role. (For examples, all Shiny Bulbasaur have Strike roles, all Shiny Charmander have Support roles, and all Shiny Squirtle have Tech roles.)
Egg Pokémon in the Day Care can be donated to Professor Bellis's lab. Each donated Pokémon gives the player one Egg Research Ticket that can be exchanged in the shop for Egg-related items, including 1★ Berry Tarts and Power-Ups.
Egg Pokémon can also be nicknamed unlike other sync pairs.
Egg Events' Patterns
- Main article: Egg event
Normally, only 3★ Eggs are available. However, during limited-time Egg Events, Eggs of all three rarities become obtainable. These events last for 14 days, and the fourth incubator turns active for just as long. While these events' run, all eggs normally obtainable from the Training area temporarily become inaccessible, and the player can only get new ones from the events' battles or its missions.
All Egg Events feature two sets of Egg Pokémon: the minor and major sets.
- Egg Pokémon in the minor set cannot be Shiny, but they have the highest chances of having three passive skills if they hatch from 1★ or especially 2★ Eggs.
- Egg Pokémon in the major set, however, can be Shiny, with 3★ Eggs giving them the highest chances of being that or just having three passive skills.
Strengthening Egg Pokémon
All Egg Pokémon start Level 1 and move level 1, and with the exception of the 3★ gift starter Pokémon of Kanto received from Professor Bellis, they all start at 1★. Raising their number of stars (or number of ★s) requires Power-Ups, including 1★ and 2★ Power-Ups that are used exclusively for 1★ and 2★ Pokémon, respectively. Using one Power-Up will raise its recipient's Potential by one, and each unit of Potential adds two points to that recipient's HP and one point to each of their following stats: Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed. If a recipient reaches 20 Potential while having four or fewer ★s (i.e., 1★, 2★, 3★, or 4★), then their number of ★s increases by one to a maximum of 5★s. In addition, 5★ Egg Pokémon can still gain up to 20 more Potential for even more stats.
Similarly, move levels of sync pairs formed with Egg Pokémon can be increased with Egg Move Candy. Plus, unlike other Move Candy, Egg Move Candy can be used on any Egg Pokémon no matter their role.
Each Egg Pokémon also has a stat called affinity, which starts at 1/3. Affinity can be raised to 2/3, 3/3, and maximum affinity using 1★, 2★, and 3★ Berry Tarts, respectively, with 20 Berry Tarts being required to reach each next level. Using one Berry Tart to raise affinity raises some of the Egg Pokémon's stats by one point each (or two points each if that stat is HP), depending on the role of that Pokémon.
Role | Stats gained per Berry Tart | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
HP | Attack | Defense | Sp. Atk | Sp. Def | Speed | |

Support | +2 | N/A | +1 | N/A | +1 | +1 |

Certain Egg Pokémon may also evolve. Requirements for evolving Egg Pokémon are as follows:
Evolution | Items required | Level required |
---|---|---|
First stage | Evolution Shard ×1 | Level 30 |
Second stage | Evolution Crystal ×1 | Level 45 |
Defunct mechanics
As the game has been updated over time, certain mechanics have been removed or otherwise function differently. These are included here for historical purposes.
- Prior to Version 2.19.0 (released on March 29, 2022), each egg had a hatch gauge that needed to be filled by completing at least three battles while that egg's incubation occurred. If an Egg's incubation time passed without the hatch gauge being full, then that Egg would stay in its incubator until enough completed battles filled that gauge.
- Eggcelerator Pass Auto-incubation slots:
- 4 prior to Version 2.19.0
- Storage slots for hatched Pokémon:
- 200 prior to Version 2.10.0 (released on June 28, 2021)
- 100 prior to Version 2.4.0 (released on December 21, 2020)
- Prior to October 7, 2020 (within Version 2.1.0), all hatched Pokémon were locked to specific genders depending on their species. All hatchable multi-gender Pokémon that were locked in this way were as follows:
Statistics
The stats of each Egg Pokémon is fixed depending on its stage in its evolutionary line and its role.
Pokémon without evolutionary lines
These are Pokémon that cannot evolve further in Pokémon Masters EX, and in that game, almost all Egg Pokémon in Pokémon Masters EX—except for Tech Tyrogue, both regional forms of Meowth, and certain Eevee—can only evolve if they do so into a Pokémon introduced in Generation I. This means that Onix, Porygon, and even the starter Pokémon of Galar and Paldea will be in this category.

Theme skills
All sync pairs formed with Egg Pokémon have the following theme skills. Each theme activates if the player forms a team with two or more sync pairs of matching themes, regardless of their roles.
Theme | Role | Effect at Levels {1-4} |
---|---|---|
[Pokémon's Type] | Support | Raises the maximum HP of allied sync pairs by {30-60}. |
Tech | Raises allies' Attack and Sp. Atk by {12-24} when using [attacks of the same type]. Raises the maximum HP of all allied sync pairs by {12-24}. | |
Strike | Raises allies' Attack and Sp. Atk by {15-30} when using [attacks of the same type]. | |
Main Character | Support | Raises the maximum HP of allied sync pairs by {4-13}. |
Tech | Raises allies' Attack and Sp. Atk by {1-4}. Raises the maximum HP of allied sync pairs by {1-7}. | |
Strike | Raises allies' Attack and Sp. Atk by {2-8}. |
Hatchable Pokémon
Each Egg Pokémon with one passive skill always only gets the top-most one assigned to its role, and such Pokémon are the most common. Each Egg Pokémon with two passive skills always gets the top two skills assigned to its role, and such Pokémon are less common. Egg Pokémon with all three passive skills, including Shiny Pokémon, are rare.
Details of three gift starter Pokémon of Kanto received from Professor Bellis, which all share their own set of rules, can be found here (for Scottie) or here (for Bettie).

Trivia
- Strike Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume are the only Egg Pokémon to have two attack moves with at least 91 power each.
- When it was event exclusive, Mankey had the smallest time gap between its first two events, which was 84 days.
- Support Abra is the only Egg Pokémon to change its sync move's category upon evolution.
- Seel and Eevee are the only Egg Pokémon whose sync move types do not match their types in the core series.
- Seel is a Water-type in the core series, but its sync move is Ice-type in Pokémon Masters EX.
- Eevee is a Normal-type in the core series, but as an Egg Pokémon in Pokémon Masters EX, its sync move type instead matches that of the Eeveelution it will evolve into.
- Out of all event-exclusive Pokémon that appeared in at least two events, Scyther has the biggest time gap between its first two, which is 452 days.
- No other returning Pokémon has an event gap that even reaches one year.
- Magikarp is the only Egg Pokémon to have at least two moves changed across all roles upon evolving: Tackle, Splash, and sometimes X Sp. Atk.
- Magikarp's evolutionary family is the only one be exclusively obtainable in a Daily Battle event (instead of an Egg event).
- Tyrogue's role-based evolution could be considered an adaptation of its evolution methods in the core series:
- Strike Tyrogue evolves into Hitmonlee because its offense is more important than its defense.
- Support Tyrogue evolves into Hitmonchan because its defense is more valuable than its offense.
- Tech Tyrogue evolves into Hitmontop because its offense and defense are about equal in worth.
- Leafeon's Grassy Terrain becoming Grass Wish most likely comes from the realization that Leafeon cannot learn Grassy Terrain in the core series.
