Lenora (Japanese: アロエ Aloe) is an archaeologist who is the Gym Leader of Nacrene City's Gym, known officially as the Nacrene Gym. She specializes in Normal-type Pokémon. She gives the Basic Badge to Trainers who defeat her. In addition to being the Nacrene City Gym Leader, Lenora is also the director of the Nacrene Museum.

In the core series games

Lenora appears in Pokémon Black and White as the Gym Leader of Nacrene City's Gym. This Gym is the second to be challenged by the player. Trainers who defeat Lenora will receive the Basic Badge, along with TM67 (Retaliate). She reappears in Pinwheel Forest after the player defeats Team Plasma, where she gives the player a Moon Stone. She also reappears at N's Castle where she and the other Unova Gym Leaders hold off the Seven Sages. During summer, she also visits Cynthia at Caitlin's villa in Undella Town, as do the other female Gym Leaders.

In the two years between Black and White and Black 2 and White 2, Lenora has stepped down from her position as a Gym Leader to focus on her work at the Nacrene Museum. When first visiting the museum she will give the player a choice between the Cover Fossil or Plume Fossil. She also participates in the Pokémon World Tournament.

Lenora in the anime

Pokémon the Series: Black & White

Lenora debuted in A Night in the Nacrene City Museum!, returning from a business trip in time to settle an angry Yamask that was haunting the Nacrene Museum. She used her Watchog's Illuminate to reveal Yamask and save Cilan from his possession. She quickly realized that Yamask had been carried inside along with a new exhibit without it knowing and had accidentally dropped its mask. In the end, Lenora—along with Ash, Iris, Cilan, and Hawes—released Yamask into the world.

In The Battle According to Lenora!, Lenora accepted Ash's offer to battle her for a Badge after he located the correct library book to reveal the hidden entrance to the Nacrene Gym. However, Ash's Pokémon were easily defeated. In Rematch at the Nacrene Gym!, she battled Ash in a rematch. This time, Ash was able to defeat her, earning himself the Basic Badge.

Lenora was mentioned in Archeops In The Modern World!. She also reappeared in flashbacks in Curtain Up, Unova League! and Crowning the Scalchop King!.

Lenora's Watchog debuted in A Night in the Nacrene City Museum!, where it activated its Illuminate Ability to reveal Yamask's presence.

In The Battle According to Lenora!, it was sent out to battle Ash's Oshawott, first using Mean Look to prevent it from returning to its Poké Ball. While Oshawott was initially able to withstand its Thunderbolt with its scalchop, Watchog quickly separated Oshawott and its scalchop, allowing it to defeat Oshawott with its Electric-type attack.

Watchog reappeared during Ash and Lenora's rematch in Rematch at the Nacrene Gym!. Like before, it used Mean Look to trap Oshawott, then used Confuse Ray. However, in spite of its confusion, Oshawott was able to knock Watchog out with its newly learned Aqua Jet, knocking itself out in the process.

It reappeared in a flashback in Crowning the Scalchop King!.

Watchog's known moves are Mean Look, Low Kick, Thunderbolt, and Confuse Ray, and its Ability is Illuminate.

Japanese Kiyomi Asai (Lillipup)

Lenora's Herdier debuted as a Lillipup in The Battle According to Lenora!, where it battled Ash's Tepig. When it was first sent out, both Iris and Ash were drawn to its cuteness. Despite its cute appearance, however, Lillipup was shown to be fierce in battle, to Iris's dismay. In its battle with Ash, it used Roar to send Tepig back, forcing Oshawott to come out. It was then called back to its Ball. Later on, it was sent back out when Watchog defeated Oshawott. It was able to easily beat Ash's Tepig with a powerful Take Down, causing Ash to lose the battle to Lenora.

In Rematch at the Nacrene Gym!, it was revealed to have evolved into a Herdier. Lenora decided to use it in her second Gym battle against Ash in order to test him against a different Pokémon after his hard training at the local Battle Club. It again used Roar to force Ash's Tepig to return into its Poké Ball, forcing Oshawott into the battle. After this, Herdier was recalled back into its Ball. It was called out again later to battle Tepig after Oshawott had tied with Watchog. Herdier proved to be far stronger than Lillipup, using the powerful Giga Impact to make things difficult for Tepig. However Tepig was faster and more powerful than before and battled hard, finally taking Herdier out with his newly-learned Flame Charge.

It reappeared in a flashback in Certain Up, Unova League!.

In the English dub, this Herdier is stated as being the same Pokémon as Lenora's Lillipup, but now evolved. However, in the original Japanese version, Herdier is not stated to have evolved from Lillipup.

Herdier's known moves are Roar, Shadow Ball, Take Down, Protect, and Giga Impact.

Lenora in Pokémon Adventures

Lenora debuted in Battle at the Museum, where her Gym was challenged by a young Trainer named Black. After a hard-fought battle, Lenora was defeated, earning Black a Basic Badge. Afterwards, Lenora received a call from Clay, who informed her of a strange stone he and his men dug up at the Desert Resort. Despite his expertise as a miner, Clay couldn't figure out what the stone was and requested that Lenora take it, hoping that her archaeological experience would produce better results.

In Mine Mayhem, Clay told Black that Lenora managed to figure out that the stone was actually the dormant form of the Legendary Pokémon Zekrom. After discovering that Team Plasma had been spying on them, Lenora and Clay came to the conclusion the villainous group must be planning to steal the stone. Together, they and the other Unova Gym Leaders came up with a plan to ambush Team Plasma and decided that Black should join them. Agreeing to help, Black and Clay went to Mistralton City to join the other Gym Leaders.

In The Battle Within, the Shadow Triad arrived, forcing Lenora to battle all three by herself while she waited for the others to come. After some time, the other Gym Leaders leaped out of Skyla's plane to assist in the battle. Despite their teamwork, the Gym Leaders fell to the Shadow Triad's trump card, the forces of nature. Lenora and the others were kidnapped and taken to Team Plasma's base of operations, N's Castle.

In Dream a Little Dream, Caitlin attempted to find the missing Gym Leaders by using her Gothitelle's Psychic abilities. Though she managed to contact them, the Gym Leaders had their memories of the kidnapping erased, preventing Caitlin from tracking them. During Black's final Gym battle with Drayden, Caitlin relayed a message from the Gym Leaders to Black, giving him the confidence to win the battle and earn his final Badge.

In Cold Hard Truth, Team Plasma launched their attack on the Pokémon League, surrounding the building with N's Castle. As a form of mockery and display of Team Plasma's power, the Gym Leaders were hoisted on cross-like fixtures and displayed in front of the masses. Later, the Gym Leaders were freed by Shoko's Patrat, allowing them to assist in the battle against Team Plasma. After Team Plasma was defeated, Lenora and the others watched as N and Zekrom flew off to parts unknown.
