Trivia
Trivia
* In his sync pair story, Morty says that the Morty he uses at his Gym has been with him longer than Drifblim; however, he decided to enter the PML with Drifblim so he could get to know it better.
* Excluding potentially Scottie and Bettie, Morty is the first Trainer to form at least one sync pair for each role (prior to the introduction of the Sprint and Field roles).
* All versions of Morty use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon) and victory with them. Those Trainers include Eusine, Phoebe, and Allister.
* Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh are the first sygna suit sync pair with a Shiny Pokémon.
** Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh are also the first sygna suit sync pair with a Shiny Legendary Pokémon.
* Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh are the first sygna suit sync pair with the Gym Leader theme skill, despite Morty not being the first Gym Leader who received a sygna suit.

Description This Ghost-type Gym Leader has secretly trained at the Ecruteak City Gym his entire life. As a result, he can now see what others cannot.

Morty (Japanese: マツバ Matsuba) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series games. He forms a sync pair with Drifblim. This sync pair was first made available on July 15, 2020. This pair can be raised to Masters EX star.png 6★ EX from October 19, 2020.

Morty also forms a sync pair with Mismagius. This sync pair was first made available on May 31, 2021. This pair could be raised to Masters EX star.png 6★ EX beginning on March 29, 2023, though this pair lacks an EX style.

Morty in his Fall 2021 seasonal outfit forms a sync pair with Banette, which is capable of Mega Evolving. This sync pair was first made available through a seasonal sync pair scout on October 14, 2021. This pair can be raised to Masters EX star.png 6★ EX from the day it was released.

Trivia

  • In his sync pair story, Morty says that the Gengar he uses at his Gym has been with him longer than Drifblim; however, he decided to enter the PML with Drifblim so he could get to know it better.
  • Excluding potentially Scottie and Bettie, Morty is the first Trainer to form at least one sync pair for each role (prior to the introduction of the Sprint and Field roles).
  • All versions of Morty use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon) and victory with them. Those Trainers include Eusine, Phoebe, and Allister.
  • Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh are the first sygna suit sync pair with a Shiny Pokémon.
    • Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh are also the first sygna suit sync pair with a Shiny Legendary Pokémon.
  • Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh are the first sygna suit sync pair with the Gym Leader theme skill, despite Morty not being the first Gym Leader who received a sygna suit.

Origin

Morty's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Morty uses Drifblim during his rematch with the player in the Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Drifblim's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Morty uses Mismagius during his rematch with the player in the Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, as well as at the Pokémon World Tournament in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. Mismagius's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Morty uses Gastly in his Gym battle against the player in the Johto-based core series games. Gastly's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Morty uses Banette at the Pokémon World Tournament in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. Banette's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

While Morty does not own a Ho-Oh outside this game, his hometown of Ecruteak shares a history with it, and he expresses interest in meeting it in the core series games. Ho-Oh's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
