She [[ | Lillie is first revealed as a mysterious girl who is central to the plot of Pokémon Sun and Moon. She assists, and is shown to live with, Professor Kukui for personal reasons. She really dislikes Pokémon battles and does not like seeing Pokémon get hurt, instead she loves to read and is in fact a very cultured girl. At the beginning of the story, Lillie comes off as shy, fearful and has little self-confidence. Lillie specifically seems to have a fear of heights, and avoids conflict. She lives in the Pokémon Research Lab's loft, where she sleeps on a blue sofa bed, Lillie does not allow anyone up there, preferring her privacy. This loft also includes a diary, another instances of being private and introverted. Despite this, Lillie is actually a very kind, helpful and supportive person, often giving the player healing items, showing them around locations, or giving them advice on how to use certain items. In comparison to her friends, she often takes things more seriously, misunderstanding humor and being called a "stick in the sand" by Hau. She enjoys history, shopping, and fashion. According to Pokémon Masters EX, she has an interest in writing. In the same game, it is also mentioned that she does not enjoy sleeping alone and previously had cuddled her Poké Doll, to avoid being scared at night.
Lillie's dialogue changes based on the language the game is read in. In her Japanese dialogue, she uses watakushi, a personal pronoun used to be polite. However, in English media, she instead speaks more softly and avoids slang. An example of this is her relationship with Professor Kukui, calling him by his full name and title or simply calling him "the professor", as opposed to most characters referring to him as just "Kukui." | Lillie's dialogue changes based on the language the game is read in. Lillie first appears with a white, large and round sunhat with a pale blue ribbon tied around the scalp. Her hat has three holes on the front, the one in the middle being slightly larger, this symbol also appears on Gladion's design. She wears her long blonde hair downward, with two braided strands of hair over lapping her shoulders, these braids are heart shaped and sectioned off in threes. Lillie has a matching sleeveless sundress that goes with her hat, this dress is long and flows down to her knees. The dress ends in 6 rounded ends that resembles flower petals. Each "petal" includes similar holes that are found on the front of her hat. Multiple seams reach down from her collar and armholes to the sides of each petal. Her dress collar is pale blue and folds over her shoulders. Underneath the dress is a pale blue, translucent, frilly decoration that is the same shape as the "flower" section of her dress, there is also 6 more rounded ends that are asymmetrical to the first round of petals. Lillie now also sports white platform shoes with blue soles. The shoes have an opening on the front with a tongue leading up to her ankles, tied with a single strap that ends with a round button. The soles' heels are slightly raised in the back, slightly increasing Lillie's height. Replacing the duffel bag she used to carry around Cosmog, she now carries a round, pink rucksack on her back. Her and the professor bring the player to the Trainers' School and helps assists them in learning the basics of being a Pokémon Trainer. Lillie is revealed to have a playful side, as she teases the player for getting called to the principal's office. Following the events, she calls the player over and has a conversation with the player as they walk to the following location. She visits Hau'oli City along with Hau and the player, who proceed to take a group picture using Rotom Dex. After the player completes their first trial, Lillie appears to get lost and Nebby escapes from her bag and runs off into Melemele Meadow, so the player must find the Pokémon and return it back to her. After the player defeats Kahuna Hala, she goes to Akala Island alongside the player and Hau. Before their leave, Lillie makes a request, help learn more about Nebby. She respects the player's power and strength as a Pokémon Trainer, something she is not or has, and would like someone like them to help them out. The group travels on Professor Kukui's boat to Akala Island where some jokes are tossed around between the player and Hau. In contrast with Hau's goofy and laid-back behavior, Lillie tends to take things more seriously, not understanding the humor that the others in the group may have.

After a reminiscing on the past, they speak with the guardian of Melemele Island, and battle breaks out with the player and Tapu Koko. Depending on the outcome of the battle, Lillie will make a comment on how it went and mentions how the weight been lifted off her shoulders. When they return to Iki Town, she tells the player that Lusamine is getting a bit better, and even wanted to join the party, and that she has been gently helping her understand what she has done. She also stops short of telling the player something seemingly important. After watching the fireworks, a black screen with narration played from Lillie's perspective is displayed. She explains the ending of the player's island challenge, and makes note that is so happy to have met everyone and have gone on a journey with them, making the most precious memories. This is revealed the next day by Hau, to be her departure for Kanto, where she plans to seek treatment for her mother and become a Trainer in her own right. Kukui makes note saying that Lillie is always welcome back home to live in the loft in the Pokémon Research Lab. Hau mentions that he will continuously write the biggest of letters to her. Finally, Lillie gives the player her old Poké Doll and says goodbye to them. Professor Kukui, Hau and the player wave her off as she is seen on the back of a ferry, the final sight of the character within gameplay and cutscenes.

She is described as a Pokémon Trainer, a title that her other counterparts do not carry or begin with. Similarly to her other counterparts, however, Lillie was raised more independently and is a bit removed from the world around her.
Lillie tends to act resourceful, cooking and providing Red and his Pokémon with some rice to help them sleep. Lillie has a focus on her looks, being described as beautiful and having an interest in social networking, but lacks the ability to take good pictures of herself. | Lillie tends to act resourceful, cooking and providing Red and his Pokémon with some rice to help them sleep. In Shipwreck and "Oh, What Sharp Teeth You Have, Bruxish!", Lillie and Burnet used Mantine Surf to arrive at Kukui's yacht as it was heading to Ula'ula Island. The group was attacked by a wild Bruxish, which used its psychic powers to make everyone pass out. Sun defeated Bruxish and saved Lillie, but ended up falling unconscious. Lillie and Sun later washed up on a beach on Ula'ula, where they were found by Acerola, who took the pair to the Aether House to recuperate. Sun completed the trial by befriending Mimikyu and adding it to his team. Afterward, Sun learned that the Rotom Pokédex could communicate with Nebby and got the idea to help him speed up the process of calming the guardian deities. When Sun opened Lillie's bag, Nebby emerged in the form of the dormant and unresponsive Cosmoem. Afterwards, Lillie and Sun returned to Aether House at Acerola's request.
In Confusion and Monsters from Another World, Lillie and Sun were approached by Sina and Dexio, a pair of Trainers from the Kalos region. Lillie made her debut in the Sun & Moon expansion, recieving her own trading card based on her first appearance in her sun hat and dress. The same set would also give Lillie a full art print depicting her in the same outfit illustrated by Megumi Mizutani. Mizutani would return to illustrate another depiction of the same card for a SM-P Promotional Print as part of a merchandise line. Starting with Ultra Prism, which is based on Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Lillie will appear in her Lively Lillie appearance, with the card from Ultra Prism depicting her with new artwork on Exeggutor Island illustrated by Sanosuke Sakuma and a full art print by Naoki Saito. Two more promotional cards in the Lively Lillie appearance were produced and illustrated by Mana Ibe and Naoki Saito. Lillie also appears in several species cards, such as a SM-P Promotional print of Cosmog as part of a merchandise line with Nebby. The Solgaleo & Lunala-GX card, in all prints, also features Lively Lillie embracing the two over Vast Poni Canyon during the events of Sun and Moon's climax. This card is directly affected by Cosmic Eclipse. Lillie also appears in the Friends in Alola card. Her Poké Doll has its own regular and secret rare print.
Lillie has also appeared in several peice of merchandise during the Sun and Moon era often depicting her appearance from the video games. Many of these include card sleeves and playmats relating to merchandise lines. Many bundles such as Lillie's Support Box were created to distribute these products and particular cards.

Lillie (Japanese: リーリエ Lilie) is a character introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, she serves as one of the player character's friends and traveling companions during the course of the game. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, she eventually becomes a Pokémon Trainer, specializing in Fairy-type Pokémon.
In the core series games
Character profile
Lillie is first revealed as a mysterious girl who is central to the plot of Pokémon Sun and Moon. Lillie specifically seems to have a fear of heights,[10] and avoids conflict. According to Pokémon Masters EX, she has an interest in writing.[11] In the same game, it is also mentioned that she does not enjoy sleeping alone and previously had cuddled her Poké Doll, to avoid being scared at night.[12]
Lillie's dialogue changes based on the language the game is read in. In her Japanese dialogue, she uses watakushi, a personal pronoun used to be polite. However, in English media, she instead speaks more softly and avoids slang. An example of this is her relationship with Professor Kukui, calling him by his full name and title or simply calling him "the professor", as opposed to most characters referring to him as just "Kukui."
Over the course of the Alola-based games, Lillie begins to gain confidence, learning to enjoy what it is like to become a Pokémon Trainer and starts to overcome her fears. Due to her relationship with the player, Lillie consistently wears a smile on her face, in which her brother, Gladion, states "I never knew she could smile like that." She cherishes the friendships and connections she makes, holding onto memories tightly. Lillie tends to act motherly and protective towards her Cosmog, Nebby.
Lillie's known relatives include her parents, Lusamine and Mohn; and her big brother, Gladion. Lillie's grandfather goes unnamed, however it is noted that he was a wealthy man who loved Pokémon and had built the Aether Foundation. Lillie is not from Alola, residing in Aether Paradise until she had left with Nebby. She currently resides in Hau'oli Outskirts' Pokémon Research Lab on Melemele Island with Professor Kukui and his wife, Professor Burnet, who she views as parental figures.[13]
Appearance
Lillie is around the age of 11 years old. Her hair is long and blonde. In both of her designs in Generation VII, her bangs fall over her forehead, with her side bangs framing her face and ending at her cheeks. Lillie has large circular eyes, with two eyelashes on each. She has thin blonde eye brows and her eyes have bright green irises. Her blonde hair and green eyes are traits that she shares with her parents and brother.
Lillie
Lillie wears long white tube socks that end below her knees, these tube socks match her dress collar, ending with blue frills. She wears pale blue dress shoes, with the same decorative holes that her dress and hat have—three holes on the toes. Lillie carries a giant gray barrel bag around throughout the game, in which she keeps Nebby inside. This drum bag has black straps, a red shoulder pad and black handles with a zipper on the front to place items, such as Repels in. On each long end of the bag, there is a Poké Ball-like marking on it, with black stripes reaching from one side to the other, connecting to the handles. This appearance of Lillie is used as her main stock-art for Pokémon Sun and Moon.
Lillie's mother had picked the outfit for Lillie to wear.[14] Because of this, the outfit causes Lillie to bear a resemblance to that of the Ultra Beast, Nihilego, a Pokémon that Lusamine was obsessed with.
Lively Lillie
During the second half of the Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon games, Lillie learns to gain more self confidence and pride, causing her to change the look of her appearance. This outfit is officially referred to as Lively Lillie (Japanese: がんばリーリエ Good Luck Lillie) in certain promotional material, merchandise, and in the Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon: Super Music Collection. However, Lillie herself, calls it her Z-Powered form (Japanese: 全力の姿 full-powered form). In this appearance, she sports her hair in a high-ponytail, with the braids tying around the base, and part of her bangs hanging off the sides of her head. She now wears an outfit that she bought on her own in Malie City[15] The top half of her outfit consists of a white-colored, short-sleeved hooded blouse with frills on the sleeves and at the waist area. The hood and drawstrings on her blouse are colored the same pale-blue as her previously worn dress. She also wears a pleated skirt with multiple frills and one thin pale blue stripe that wraps around it. Her socks match the "puffiness" of her blouse and wrap around her shins. The backpack has two long pink straps that reach from the top to the bottom of the bag, going over her shoulders. The backpack has a single opening on the top that's tied with a white ribbon in order to close and open it. The rucksack also includes three white ovals, resembling the same symbol that is found on her sundress. The artwork released for Lillie for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon borrows elements from this appearance.
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Special Demo Version
Lillie made her first debut in the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Special Demo Version. She appears on Fridays across the street from Hau'oli's Pokémon Center looking at the ocean. She plays no role in the Special Demo's story, but instead explains that she is working for Professor Kukui. When speaking to her, she seems to be talking to her bag, which shakes in response.
Pokémon Sun and Moon
Background and pre-game
Website blurb: "Lillie is a mysterious girl who assists the professor. This young girl is about the same age as your character, and she's working as Professor Kukui's assistant for personal reasons. She's not fond of making Pokémon fight in battles, but she loves reading and has devoured many books. Lillie will play an important role in the story of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon."
Lillie is first seen attempting to flee Aether Paradise three months prior to the beginning of the player's adventure, during the opening cutscene. Just when she is surrounded, she is Teleported by a mysterious force, later revealed to be the Pokémon hiding in her bag, a Cosmog, which she had nicknamed Nebby. Lillie and Nebby wash up on a beach, where they are found by Professor Burnet, who listens to Lillie's story and agrees to help her learn more about Nebby. She contacts her husband, Professor Kukui, who allows her to stay with him as his assistant. Upon being taken to Hau'oli City's Marina, she meets with the island kahuna, Hala, and his grandson, Hau. There she learns more about Alola's culture, finding out that Alola does not have any Gym Leaders, Champions or anything related to Pokémon Leagues found in other regions.
Encounter on Melemele Island
The player first meets Lillie on Mahalo Trail, where she watches helplessly as Nebby is being attacked by a group of wild Spearow on an unstable rope bridge, she has a fear of heights. Despite not yet having a Pokémon of their own, the player steps in to protect Nebby, and is in turn, assisted and recognized by Melemele Island's island guardian, Tapu Koko, when the bridge collapses. Afterwards, Lillie accompanies the player back to Iki Town, where she watches them receive their first partner Pokémon, and later their Z-RingSM or Z-Power RingUSUM. She watches the battle between Hau and the player, and is somewhat reluctant to watch the player's Pokémon battles as she hates seeing Pokémon take damage, but makes an exception. The following day, she accompanies the player to Kukui's Lab, helping them provide information on Rotom and the Rotom Pokédex, and later provides them a tour of the Pokémon Center.
On Akala Island
After the boat ride to Heahea City ,the group meets up with Olivia along with one of the Trial Captains, Mallow. With Nebby out of her drum bag, Lillie ngets fearful of this telling it to get back inside, Kukui tells her that it is alright, as Olivia is Akala's kahuna. During her time in Heahea City, Lillie mostly stays at the Tide Song Hotel, apparently to meet somebody there, and also in fear of Team Skull, who she saw lurking around the area. She meets up with the player while shopping and tells them that, in her quest to learn more about Nebby, she would like to visit each of the ruins of Alola where the guardian deities live. She also requests some help for herself, due to not being a Trainer, she would like the player to help learn more about Nebby and its species. She rejoins the player and Hau when Professor Kukui summons them to the Dimensional Research Lab, which conducts research into Pokémon coming from other dimensions and is headed by Professor Burnet. At the lab, Lillie explains her relationship with Professor Burnet, and more of her and Nebby's history, saying that Burnet is like a mother to her. Lillie eventually manages to get lost again while looking for the Ruins of Life, in fear that she may have seen Team Skull, but ends up running into Professor Burnet. The two travel to the ruins, meeting up with the player and Kahuna Olivia. She watches the battle between the two, seemingly enjoying the fight, saying Nebby would enjoy it too. Afterwards Hau returns to the group and reminds the player that Faba of the Aether Foundation wants to see them. This causes Lillie to become nervous and insists on staying to watch the battle with Hau and Olivia. Notably, she does not join the player and Hau in their tour of Aether Paradise. She, alongside Professor Kukui, meet up with the player and Hau on Ula'ula Island.
On Ula'ula Island
On Ula'ula Island, Lillie is first seen as a roadblock in Malie City, directing the player to check out Malie Garden to meet Professor Kukui. At her request, Lillie then asks the player to come with them to the Malie Library to research Cosmog and Ula'ula's ruins. Once again, Lillie ends up getting lost, running into an apparel store and buying a new outfit that she laughs off saying that she doesn't "have the guts to wear an outfit like it." Being introduced to Hapu at the library's entrance and gets offered by her to help with exploring the islands and ruins. Inside, she meets Acerola, a trial captain on Ula'Ula. Acerola brings out a book that once belonged to her father and suspects that it may be a book Lillie is interested in reading, called The Light of Alola. Lillie begins her research on Alola's history while the player does their island challenge. She eventually breaks away from Acerola and Hapu to travel on her own, seeing what it is like to be a Trainer on her own, is caught by two Team Skull Grunts on Route 15 and gets protected by the player. Lillie, alongside Hau, stays at Aether House, the orphanage where Acerola lives, as the player continues their trial with Acerola. During this time, a Yungoos belonging to one of the children at Aether House gets kidnapped, and the player must travel to Po Town, where team Skull keeps their base. Due to the player's absence, Lillie and Nebby are also kidnapped by Team Skull in an operation led by Plumeria, who implies that Team Skull are not the only ones who steal Pokémon; Lillie goes with them willingly and quietly, while Hau is unable to defeat Plumeria to save her. Upon informing the player about this, Gladion, a Team Skull enforcer that the player and Hau have encountered several times, who has warned them to ensure nothing happens to Cosmog, barges in having overheard the conversation. He takes them to Aether Paradise, where he claims he is certain Lillie has been brought.
Kidnapping on Aether Paradise
After raiding the facility, whose employees have now become hostile to under the pretext that they're intruders, the player manages to enter the house and office of the Aether Foundation's President, Lusamine, where they find Lillie trying to reason with her. Hau and the player find out that Lillie is the daughter of Lusamine, and that Gladion is her older brother, who had also ran away from Aether Paradise for notably similar reasons. Lusamine berates both Lillie and Gladion for leaving and stealing the Pokémon from her, after all the love she gave them, and no longer shows care for either of them. The information the player finds in Aether Paradise, as well as in the conversation between Lillie and Lusamine, reveal that Nebby was actually a research experiment of the Aether Foundation in its attempt to open more Ultra Wormholes across Alola and harness the power of the Ultra Beasts; knowing that the strain of this would be fatal on Nebby, Lillie had taken it from Aether Paradise. Lusamine had managed to take Nebby back, after a plot developed with help from Team Skull and their boss, Guzma. Lusamine holds Nebby within the cage an opens Ultra Wormholes in front of the group, releasing Ultra Beasts across Alola, including a Nihilego inside the Trophy Room they are currently standing in. Lusamine and Guzma disappear into the Ultra Wormhole after confronts with the player and Hau. Nebby is revealed to have evolved into Cosmoem in the process, although none of them are seemingly aware of this. The group then resides at Aether Paradise for the night, under the care of Wicke, with Lillie choosing to stay in the bed that she shared with her mother when she was younger. After losing her mother and seeing the state Nebby is in, Lillie finds herself at a turning point where she realizes she has to do something and undergoes a dramatic change. She changes her outfit, calling it her "Z-Powered form." With determination to save both Nebby and her mother, Lillie joins the player on Poni Island and is given the Moon FluteSUS or Sun FluteMUM by Gladion before they leave.
Gaining confidence on Poni Island
At Seafolk Village, the two part ways with Gladion, and proceed to talk with locals for information on the island. Lillie and the player are instructed by the village chief to meet with Hapu, in order to talk with Poni's island kahuna. Only to find out from Hapu that her grandfather, the previous kahuna, is no longer with them. Hapu takes Lillie and the player to the Ruins of Hope, in hope of finding more answers on Nebby and witness Hapu's appointment as kahuna by Tapu Fini. After Lillie learns more about her friends and Nebby, Hapu directs them to Exeggutor Island, a former trial site, where the Sun FluteS or Moon FluteM lies. On the island, a wild Alolan Exeggutor attacks Lillie, giving her a rush of what it is like to be a Trainer. It begins to rain and the two run towards a cave. There, Lillie explains to the player about her history with her mother as they retrieve the missing flute, telling stories about the future and how Lusamine was once a very nice person. After the player's final Grand Trial against Kahuna Hapu, the two go through Vast Poni Canyon, where she adventures alongside the player to reach the end of the canyon and even attempts her "trial" by conquering her fears while crossing a narrow bridge alone. After all the adventure through the canyon, she becomes much more confident and braver. Finally, the player and Lillie ascend the Altar of the SunneS or Altar of the MooneM where they are directed to play the Sun and Moon Flutes together. As they do so, Nebby is drawn from Lillie's bag and evolves into SolgaleoS or LunalaM, which amazes Lillie, who had never read about their relationship to each other before.
Confrontation in Ultra Space
Lillie requests Nebby for its help to save Lusamine. Nebby then uses either its Sunsteel StrikeS or Moongeist BeamM, creating an Ultra Wormhole, and grabs both Lillie and the player going through Ultra Space. In Ultra Space, Lillie and the player find themselves in a black sea-like landscape where it is hard to breathe. They find a lone Guzma, who was terrified for the first time, explaining what the Ultra Beast they encounter does—uses bodies as a host and posses them. Guzma claims that Lusamine is beyond reason, however Lillie is unfazed by this, and goes to confront her anyways. Walking past Guzma, Lillie finds herself in front of Lusamine and they exchange thoughts. Lillie doesn't like the way that Lusamine has treated her, other people, or Pokémon, calling Lusamine out on her selfish behavior. Lusamine dismisses Lillie's thoughts and opinions, calling her ugly for leaving her and befriending the player. Lillie finally manages to stand up to her proving that she is much braver than before and facing her greatest fear, her own mother. Lusamine berates the player as well, calling them a hateful Trainer, telling the two of them to leave. Lusamine summons a Nihilego from a Beast Ball, and merges with the Ultra Beast, initiating another fight with the player. After the player defeats Lusamine, she attempts to strike Lillie with one of her tentacles, but Lillie cries out to Nebby for help, who sends out a psychic shock wave that manages to separate Lusamine from Nihilego. Before losing consciousness, Lusamine asks Lillie when she started becoming more beautiful. In that moment, Lillie realizes that the mother she remembers can actually come back, her real mother. Upon returning to Alola, Nebby indicates its desire to join and travel with Lillie and the player, Lillie gently refuses as she is not a Pokémon Trainer but she suggests it join the player instead, who it has also befriended during the story. Lillie starts acting motherly towards Nebby, telling it to not get hurt, or hurt other people, or get lost, or leave its Poké Ball like it did when it was in her bag. Nebby agrees to be the player's Pokémon and a fight begins, with Lillie watching. With a final "Alola" and a smile on her face, Lillie leaves to take care of her sickly mother, and until the player becomes Champion she is not seen, as she is busy caring for Lusamine in Aether Paradise along with her brother.
Goodbye Alola
The player meets up with Gladion eventually at the foot of Mount Lanakila, who proceeds to fight the player with one last battle. On Lillie's behalf, Gladion gives the player 3 Max Elixirs, and to telegraph a message from her: telling the player that she believes them to be the "best Trainer in the world". The player defeats Professor Kukui and the Elite Four, and becoming Alola's first champion in the process. In order to celebrate, Kukui says they will hold a festival at Iki Town, and tells the player that he will make sure to invite Lillie too. During the festivities in Iki Town, Lillie arrives with Hapu at a later time than the others, but meets up with the player and congratulates them on their victory almost immediately. She takes note of everyone at the party, mentioning how happy they are, making claim that she is extremely happy to have visited Alola and meeting the player. Lillie and the player then quietly slip away to the Ruins of Conflict to give thanks to Tapu Koko for saving Nebby the player when the bridge collapsed on Mahalo Trail.
Lillie appears in photographs during the game's ending credits, two photographs of Lillie are shown. The credits begin showing a close up of Lillie's pink rucksack next to a big package, transitioning into the photographs. First one containing Lillie is shown after all the others, this one being a version-exclusive photo alongside a fully evolved Nebby. In Pokémon Sun, Nebby will be a Solgaleo, shown nuzzling Lillie during the day time at the Altar of the Sunne, while in Pokémon Moon, Nebby will be shown nuzzling Lillie as a Lunala at the Altar of the Moone during the night. Over this image with Nebby, the quote "Everyone's smiles shine so brightly. Those smiles led us to so many other people. And those meetings will lead us to a bright future. I'm so glad I got to meet everyone. I'm so glad I got to meet you" is displayed, along with the games' title and copyright information playing Lillie's encounter theme. Another transition happens and shows the package, this time being opened. The package contains a letter with drawings and imagery on it, and the final photograph seen in the credits — the photograph that Lillie took with Hau and the player when they first got to Hau'oli City. It can be assumed that the photographs and letter are from the player character's perspective. This is the final appearance of the character in-game.
In the post-game
After Lillie has left, the player can read her diary in the loft of Professor Kukui's lab, as the lock has been pecked open by Murkrow. In it, Lillie writes that her flight from Aether Paradise had been planned ahead, with only Wicke aware of it, and that Wicke had told her to look for Professor Burnet. She is seemingly turned off at Professor Kukui's habit of going around half-naked. She also notes that Alola does not have any Gym Leaders or — at that time, toward the start of the player's journey — an Elite Four. Wicke also tells the player, upon their return to Aether Paradise, that the reason Lillie chose Kanto was to seek Bill, who, like Lusamine, has been combined with a Pokémon before, in the hopes that Lusamine would be healed of the last of Nihilego's poisons to finally come back as the good mother she was before.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
While largely staying the same, Lillie's role in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon differs from how she is represented in the original Sun and Moon titles, including the ending of the game.
Background and pre-game
Website blurb: "Lillie is a girl about your age. She’s acting as Professor Kukui’s assistant for her own reasons. After experiencing many things during her adventures with you, Lillie will discover a new side of herself."
Like in Sun and Moon, Lillie assists and lives with Professor Kukui for personal reasons. She dislikes Pokémon battles and does not like seeing Pokémon get hurt, enjoys reading, and lacks self confidence. Her family wealth and fear of heights also remain.
Similar to Sun and Moon, during the opening cutscene, Lillie is first seen attempting to flee Aether Paradise three months prior to the beginning of the game. Depending on the game, two members of the Ultra Recon Squad are attempting to stop the young woman. Just when she is surrounded, she is transported by a mysterious force, later revealed to be from the Pokémon hiding in her bag, a Cosmog, which she had nicknamed Nebby. Lillie and Nebby wash up on a beach, where they are found by Professor Burnet, who listens to Lillie's story and agrees to help her learn more about Nebby. She contacts her husband, Professor Kukui, who allows her to stay with him as his assistant. She lives in the Pokémon Research Lab's loft, where she sleeps on a blue sofa bed, which Hau takes notice of and finds it to be interesting. Lillie does not allow anyone up there, preferring her privacy.
Encounter on Melemele Island
The player first meets Lillie on Mahalo Trail, where she watches helplessly as Nebby is being attacked by a group of wild Spearow on an unstable rope bridge, she has a fear of heights. The player steps in to protect Nebby, using their newly obtained first partner Pokémon. She watches the battle between Hau and the player, and is somewhat reluctant to watch the player's Pokémon battles as she hates seeing Pokémon take damage, but makes an exception. The following day, Lillie watches the player obtain their Z-Power Ring from the Sparkling Stone they have received from Tapu Koko the previous day. She then accompanies the player to Kukui's Lab, teaching them about basic terrain such as ledges. At the Pokémon Research Lab they help provide information on the Rotom sitting inside the Rotom Pokédex, and gives the player a tour of the Pokémon Center. Her and the professor bring the player to the Trainers' School and helps assists them in learning the basics of being a Pokémon Trainer. Unlike the original titles, Lillie and Professor Kukui make their own trip to Akala Island, while the player and Hau go to Big Wave Beach to surf on Mantine instead.
On Akala and Ula'ula Island
After the boat ride to Heahea City, the group meets up with Olivia along with one of the Trial Captains, Mallow. With Nebby out of her drum bag, Lillie gets fearful. Lillie explains her and Nebby's relationship with Professor Burnet, saying that Burnet is like a mother to her. As the player makes their way to Konikoni City, Lillie gets brought to the Ruins of Life by Burnet. She watches the grand trial the player has with Olivia, and enjoys fight, saying Nebby enjoyed it too. Hau catches up and reminds the player that Faba of the Aether Foundation wants to take them to Aether Paradise. This makes Lillie upset, chooses to stay behind. She and Professor Kukui meet up with the player and Hau on Ula'ula Island.

Lusamine berates both Lillie and Gladion for leaving and stealing the Pokémon from her, after all the love she gave them, and no longer shows care for either of them. The information the player finds in Aether Paradise, as well as in the conversation between Lillie and Lusamine, reveal that Nebby was actually a research experiment of the Aether Foundation in its attempt to open an Ultra Wormhole, Lusamine wishing to save Alola from Necrozma; knowing that the strain of this would be fatal on Nebby, Lillie had taken it from Aether Paradise. Lusamine had managed to take Nebby back, after a plot developed with help from Team Skull and their boss, Guzma. Lusamine holds Nebby within the cage and opens Ultra Wormholes in front of the group. With determination to save both Nebby and her mother, Lillie joins the player on Poni Island and is given the Moon FluteUS or Sun FluteUM by Gladion before they leave. From here onward, Lillie's story takes drastic change from what has occured in Sun and Moon.
Gaining confidence on Poni Island
Gladion takes Lillie and the player to Poni Island. In search of clues, they are encountered by Mina a Trial Captain who lives in Seafolk Village. They are told to look for Poni's Kahuna, bringing them to Hapu's house in Ancient Poni Path. Playing out similar to Sun and Moon, Hapu brings the duo to Poni Breaker Coast so Lillie can see the Ruins of Hope, the last of the ruins that Nebby had wished to see. In the proccess, Tapu Fini awards Hapu with the title of Kahuna. Providing information on the counterpart to the flute, the player is told to go to Exeggutor Island. Lillie remains at Seafolk Village with Mina, waiting for the player to get back with the other flute. Afterwards, the player fights Hapu for their final grand trial at Vast Poni Canyon, with success, the group of three travel through the canyon to perform the ritual at Poni's altar. Over the course of their adventure, Lillie acts upon certain tasks, becoming more confident and positive about herself, including getting over her fear of heights. Finally, the player and Lillie ascend the Altar of the SunneUS or Altar of the MooneUM where they play the Sun and Moon Flutes together, drawing Nebby from Lillie's bag and evolving it into SolgaleoUS or LunalaUM, which amazes Lillie, who had never read about their relationship to each other before. Before Nebby can help Lillie, an Ultra Wormhole opens and dumps both Guzma and Lusamine onto the altar floor, followed by Necrozma. Lusamine reaches out to her daughter and the player, pleading them to run away from the beast. Despite her request for Lillie to flee, the girl refuses to run away witnessing Necrozma and Nebby take fight in battle. Nebby gets pinned down and loses, who then gets absorbed into Necrozma, transforming the Prism Pokémon into its Dusk ManeUS or Dawn WingsUM form. The player is tasked with fighting Necrozma, who, as a form of retreat, creates several Ultra Wormholes using Nebby's power, allowing Ultra Beasts to swarm into Alola and alerting the region's island guardianss. Necrozma escapes back into an Ultra Wormhole and heads to Ultra Megalopolis. Lillie asks the player to follow Necrozma and save Nebby, waving them good luck. Following Ultra Necrozma's defeat, she and Lusamine bring Nebby back to Aether Paradise so it can heal from its injuries.
Support in Episode RR
After Team Rainbow Rocket's takeover of Aether Paradise, Lillie visits the player's house and asks for their help in saving Lusamine. She is later revealed to have become a Pokémon Trainer herself and acts as the player's partner in a Multi Battle against Faba and an Aether Foundation Employee. Throughout Episode RR, she mostly supports the player by healing their Pokémon.
In the post-game
Later on, after the player has defeated Ilima at Hau'oli Cemetery, she can be found back at Mahalo Trail with Nebby. As in Sun and Moon, Lillie suggests that Nebby can join the player in the hopes that they can calm Necrozma's fury if they encounter it again, allowing the player to capture it. After Nebby is caught, Lillie will give the player a Solganium ZUS/Lunalium ZUM, which she had found being held by Nebby.
After Episode RR, Lillie can be visited at Professor Kukui's laboratory on Route 1, where she will accept to join the player as a Multi Battle partner at the Battle Tree.
Pokémon
Through the games, Lillie has owned three Pokémon and taken care of one, most notably, Nebby, a Cosmog that she has rescued from Aether Paradise. Clefairy is her only known Pokémon outside of battle facilities.
Lillie has an affiliation with the Pokémon Clefairy, often carrying a Poké Doll item around. Starting in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Lillie has her own Clefairy that she keeps in a Heal Ball as part of Episode RR. Lillie's mother, Lusamine, also owns a Clefable, Clefairy's evolved form, striking a parallel between mother and daughter. Both her Clefairy and the Poké Doll have been seen in a multitude of merchandise including figurines and trading cards.
Even when including Pokémon from the Battle Tree, Lillie seems to have a preference for Fairy types. All three Pokémon focus on supporting the player.

- Main article: Nebby
This Cosmog, nicknamed Nebby (Japanese: ほしぐもちゃん Hoshigumo-chan) by Lillie, was a research subject of the Aether Foundation. Lillie rescued the Pokémon when she learned that the organization's experiments would eventually kill it, and thanks to its Teleport, was able to flee. Since escaping, Lillie has been taking Nebby to the ruins of the guardian deities of Alola, believing she can learn something about Nebby's true nature. Due to the circumstances, Lillie always keeps Nebby in a bag she carries around with her at all times.
Nebby evolves into Cosmoem during the events of it and Lillie's kidnapping by the Aether Foundation. It then evolves into SolgaleoSUS or LunalaMUM, and after confronting LusamineSM or NecrozmaUSUM, is left in the custody of the player.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
Lillie's Clefairy is kept in a Heal Ball. It's likely her Battle Tree Multi Battle partner Pokémon were meant to be contained in Heal Balls as well; however, due to a glitch, all Multi Battle partners at the Battle Tree use standard Poké Balls.

Pokémon Evolutions
Lillie appeared in The Eclipse. She traveled to Altar of the Moone with Selene, hoping to find a way to help Nebby while recalling the events of her journey, such as seeing Nebby being attacked at Mahalo Trail and confronting Lusamine at Aether Paradise. When she played the Sun Flute alongside Selene's Moon Flute, the altar reacted to the music and caused Nebby to evolve into Lunala. Lillie pleaded Nebby to take her to her mother, but before it could do so, Lusamine and Guzma suddenly fell out of an Ultra Wormhole that had appeared above the altar, followed by Necrozma. Nebby battled against Necrozma, but wound up being absorbed by it. Seeing Nebby being taken almost caused Lillie to collapse, but Selene came to her side, encouraging her to stand up as she prepared to battle Dawn Wings Necrozma.

In the manga
Pocket Monsters Sun Moon
Lillie debuts in the second volume of Pocket Monsters Sun Moon and is a recurring friend of Red. Lillie appears and acts differently compared to how she acts in other media. Here, she appears to travel more frequently on her own with more confidence. Because of this, she often lacks her drum bag (which is actually much smaller) in most appearances, and does not seem to care for or be associated with a Cosmog.
Pokémon Adventures
Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon arc
Lillie debuted in The Decision and the Tournament of Six. She was entered in an Iki Town festival tournament by mistake. When Moon and Olivia came to place Lillie in the tournament roster, Nebby broke out of Lillie's bag and ran away. They found Nebby at under attack by wild Spearow at Mahalo Trail, but Lillie was too scared to help, forcing Moon to step in and do it. When Moon got to Nebby, it used its powers to break the bridge they were standing on, causing both to fall into the water before Tapu Koko caught them and brought them to safety. After learning Lillie was entered in the tournament by mistake, Moon decided to take her place instead.
In The Announcement and the Prize, Lillie met with Professor Burnet at Professor Kukui's house. They watched the tournament on the television, but Lillie ended up falling asleep during the second battle and dreamt of her family.
In Flash and Cosmog's Secret, Lillie went shopping with Burnet. When Burnet asked about Lillie's clothes, she accidentally triggered painful memories of when Lillie was forcibly made to dress in her current attire by Lusamine against her wishes. Lillie's distress caused Nebby to fly out and claw at the sky, causing an Ultra Wormhole to form. After Lillie fainted, Nebby stopped and went down to check on her condition out of concern.
After waking up, Lillie properly introduced herself to Sun.
In A Photoshoot and the Abandoned Thrifty Megamart, Acerola took Lillie and Sun to the site of the former Thrifty Megamart and gave Sun the task of photographing the Totem Mimikyu that lived inside.
Sina and Dexio hired Sun to help them find the Zygarde Cells scattered across Alola. Sun accepted and received a Zygarde Cube to store the Cells he managed to find. Fearing that putting Lillie in danger would cause Nebby to use its powers again, Sun had Lillie stay behind and went to begin his search.
In The Truth and Island Kahuna Hapu, Lillie reunited with Gladion after he rescued her from an attacking Guzzlord on Route 10. To everyone else's surprise, Lillie and Gladion revealed themselves to be siblings and the children of Lusamine, the Aether Foundation president. Lillie told Gladion about how she stole Nebby from Lusamine to prevent her from abusing its power. When Lillie presented a Sun Flute she had also taken from Aether Paradise, Gladion decided that they should head towards the Poni Altar.
In Battle in Vast Poni Canyon, Lillie and Gladion traveled through Poni Island. Gladion revealed he planned on getting the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala to help him destroy the Ultra Beasts. As they traveled, a Xurkitree appeared and attacked them. Gladion and Silvally fought Xurkitree, but Nebby flew out of his hands and met with another Cosmoem. After Xurkitree was defeated, Lillie and Gladion met with Sun and Hapu. They learned that the Sun and Moon Flutes were a pair meant to played at the Poni Altar. The guardian deities of Alola appeared and took Sun and both flutes to the Poni Altar while Lillie, Gladion, and Hapu chased after them.
In Summon the Emissaries of the Moon and the Sun, Lillie and Gladion helped Anabel corner and capture Faba. At the Altar, Lillie and the others found that Sun and Moon managed to evolve Nebby and the other Cosmoem into Lunala and Solgaleo, respectively. Anabel received a call from Looker, who told her that a large number of Ultra Beasts made their way to Poni Island. While Moon, Gladion, Anabel, and Hapu fought off the beasts, Solgaleo was possessed by a Necrozma that appeared from a wormhole. Necrozma grabbed Sun and dragged him into the wormhole, forcing Moon and Lunala to chase after them.
Six months after the Poni Island incident, Lusamine disappeared while Faba had managed to take control of the Aether Foundation, running it like a dictatorship. In Adventure in the Dark Dimension, Wicke told Lillie and Gladion that Lusamine was found on Poni Island playing with a group of Ultra Beasts. Gladion suggested going to get Lusamine, but was told to stay behind as he hadn't fully recovered from the injuries he sustained from being exposed to the energy from Silvally's evolution. Wicke decided the best option was for her to return to Aether Paradise and gather information before making their next move.
In Madness!! Mother Lusamine!, on Exeggutor Island, an injured Guzma revealed that Lusamine had repeatedly fused with a Nihilego she captured. After learning from Mina that Mohn was still alive, Lillie and Gladion decided to meet with Lusamine and tell her in hopes that she'll return to normal. With encouragement from Gladion, Lillie changed into a new set of clothes and set off with Sina, Dexio, and Samson Oak to meet Lusamine at Mount Lanakila. Before they could leave, the four were interrupted by the appearance of Complete Forme Zygarde and Sun falling from a wormhole. After Sun was rescued, he led the others on a search for Moon and Lusamine, who also fell through the wormhole. Later, after finding Lusamine, Lillie confronted her mother, revealing to her that Mohn was still alive in Alola somewhere. Overwhelmed with emotion, Lusamine separated from Nihilego, but passed out immediately afterward. Sun tried getting Zygarde to take Lusamine to a hospital, only to notice that Necrozma had arrived.
In Tyrant!! The Fiendish Man!, Sun and Samson stayed behind to battle Necrozma while Sina and Dexio took Lillie and Lusamine to a safer place. They attempted to take an elevator to the base of the mountain, only for Dexio to be shot by a poison arrow fired by what appeared to be Moon. Realizing the assailant was an imposter, Lillie sent her Cutiefly to defeat the fake's Salazzle, revealing them to be Plumeria in disguise. Angered, Plumeria blamed Lillie, Lusamine, and the Aether Foundation for Team Skull's misfortunes and Guzma's disappearance. Lillie managed to calm Plumeria by revealing Guzma was alive and safe on Exeggutor Island, convincing her to give up.
In Finale!! The Battle Against the Other Dimension!, several months after Necrozma was defeated, Lillie came in contact with a researcher named Bill. As Bill had fused himself to a Pokémon once before, he agreed to help Lillie revive Lusamine, who had yet to wake up from her coma. Gladion was reluctant to let Lillie go alone, so she was joined by Professor Burnet.

- Main article: Nebby
Nebby (Japanese: ほしぐもちゃん Hoshigumo-chan) is a Pokémon Lillie took care of after rescuing it from the Aether Foundation. It was first seen escaping from Lillie's bag and running off to Mahalo Trail, where it was attacked by wild Spearow. When Moon stepped in to save it, Nebby broke the bridge they were standing on, causing both to fall towards the water until they were saved by Tapu Koko. In A Raid and Po Town, it was revealed to have evolved into a Cosmoem and later evolves into a Lunala.
Ride Pokémon
Lillie used a Ride Mantine to surf to Professor Kukui's yacht with Professor Burnet. Shortly after arriving, a wild Bruxish arrived and attacked everyone with its psychic abilities. During the commotion, Lillie was knocked off of Mantine, which then collided into the yacht, knocking itself out in the process.
None of Mantine's moves are known.

Trivia
- Lillie is the first friend in the core series who is neither a player character nor a rival.
- Lillie shares several similarities with N, as both of them are friend characters who:
- initially dislike Pokémon battles (but warm up to them later on).
- are met by the player throughout their journey.
- have a special connection to the game's Legendary mascot Pokémon.
- are the children of the game's primary antagonist.
- leave for a distant land at the end of the games they first appear in for personal purposes.
Origin
Lillie may have been inspired by Nihilego and vice-versa. Throughout the game, Lillie mentions how her Ultra Beast-obsessed mother, Lusamine, chooses what and how she gets to wear her clothes, with both characters mentioning dress-up and outfits throughout the game. This implies that, in-universe, Lusamine may have intentionally dressed her daughter up to resemble the Pokémon. Lillie's white sunhat resembles Nihilego's bell with each of Nihilego's tentacles resembling Lillie's hair, legs, sundress, braids and arms. Nihilego's white coloring with a blue accent is reminiscent of both of Lillie's outfits seen in-game. Further more, Nihilego's Shiny colors take on a yellow hue, making it resemble Lillie's long blonde hair. Nihilego's Pokédex entry in Pokémon Moon states that "sometimes it can be observed behaving like a young girl." The episode, The Homecoming Crown!, notes the similarities with a Shiny Nihilego and Lillie's anime counterpart.
Names
The Japanese names of Lillie's family and all important members of the Aether Foundation are based on German words for plants.
The lilie, the German name for lily, is a genus of flower. Lilies are often white in color and represent a multitude of meanings including love, purity, innocence, and revival.
