Stealth Rock (Japanese: ステルスロック Stealth Rock) is a non-damaging Rock-type move introduced in Generation IV. It was TM76 in Generation IV, and TM56 in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. It is TR76 in Generation VIII.
Effect
Generation IV
Stealth Rock sets an entry hazard around the target Pokémon. Pokémon on the target's field receive damage upon switching in. The amount of damage inflicted upon switching in is affected by the effectiveness of Rock against the target. It also does not stack if multiple layers are set. It does not damage Pokémon with the Ability Magic Guard. Rapid Spin removes Steath Rock from the user's side of the field if it affects its target; Defog removes the effect of Stealth Rock from the target's side of the field if it affects its target.
The damage is taken from the victim's maximum HP, and follows:
Type effectiveness | Damage (Max. HP) |
---|---|
0.25× | 3.125% |
0.5× | 6.25% |
1× | 12.5% |
2× | 25% |
4× | 50% |
Regardless of the weather, as Castform transforms after entry hazards take effect, Castform only takes 12.5% damage.
Generation V
Stealth Rock can now be reflected by Magic Coat.
Generation VI onwards
Defog now clears Stealth Rock from both sides.
Stealth Rock is unaffected by strong winds. In an Inverse Battle, Stealth Rock uses the inverted weakness and resistance to Rock to calculate damage.
Stealth Rock can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, causing Circle Throw, Dragon Tail, Roar, and Whirlwind to give extra three appeal points if used in the next turn.
Any Pokémon that appear after calling for help during SOS Battles are subject to Stealth Rock.
If powered up by a Rockium Z into Z-Stealth Rock, it will raise the user's Defense stat by one stage.
Using G-Max Stonesurge will set up Stealth Rock on the target's side of the field.
Generation VIII
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Stealth Rock is a physical move that deals direct damage with a base power of 40. It also leaves the target with splinters for 4 turns (Strong Style), 2 turns (Agile Style) or 3 turns (otherwise).

In Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, Stealth Rock has 20 PP. The user creates a Stealth Rock trap underneath them, as long as it's a land tile that is neither stairs nor Kecleon carpet. The trap will remain invisible until it's triggered. Any Pokémon that triggers a Stealth Rock trap will receive damage equal to ⅛ of their maximum HP, regardless of the type matchup. The trap cannot be laid in hallways and the entrance of a room. This move is affected by Taunt.
