Future Sight (Japanese: みらいよち Future Sight) is a damage-dealing Psychic-type move introduced in Generation II. It was TR34 in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is TM217 in Generation IX.

Effect

Generations II to IV

On the turn Future Sight is selected, this attack will do nothing other than say that the user has foreseen an attack. Two turns later, Future Sight will do damage against the target.

The damage dealt uses the Special Attack stat of the user and Special Defense stat of the target at the time of move selection (not at the time the attack actually hits; if the target is switched out, the attack will hit its replacement but the damage is based on the original target Pokémon). Damage dealt by Future Sight does not have a type; it is not affected by type effectiveness (so can hit Dark-type Pokémon), does not receive STAB, and can hit Pokémon with Wonder Guard.

Future Sight cannot land a critical hit and its damage is not increased by Life Orb. Future Sight is not affected by protection moves or Endure. A Pokémon holding a Focus Band or Focus Sash can survive Future Sight.

Future Sight fails when used if the target is already set to be hit by Future Sight or Doom Desire. Future Sight can hit the Pokémon that used the move. If Future Sight misses, the miss will not occur until the third turn, and the game will display that the move "failed" rather than "missed".

In Double Battles, if the intended target has already fainted by the time the attack is foreseen such that there is no target, Future Sight will redirect the same as other moves do (e.g., target the other opponent instead). If there is no target at the targeted slot by the time the attack is due, Future Sight will fail without further notice.

Future Sight has a base power of 80 and an accuracy of 90.

Future Sight can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 3 bonus appeal points if Calm Mind, Confusion, Kinesis, or Psychic was used in the previous turn.

Generation V

Future Sight's power is increased from 80 to 100, its accuracy from 90% to 100%, and its PP is reduced from 15 to 10.

Future Sight now calculates its damage when it hits rather than when it is selected. Future Sight uses the user's Special Attack and the hit Pokémon's Special Defense at the time damage is dealt.

It now inflicts damage as a Psychic-type move; therefore, it is affected by type effectiveness (so cannot affect Dark-type Pokémon), can receive STAB, and will not necessarily hit through Wonder Guard. If the user is on the field and has Normalize or was affected by Electrify when Future Sight hits, it hits as a Normal- or Electric-type move respectively (regardless of whether this was the case when the move was used); however, it cannot be redirected by Lightning Rod even if it is an Electric-type move. Future Sight can now land a critical hit.

If the user is not on the field when Future Sight hits, its Ability and held item are not applied.

In battles with multiple opponents, Future Sight may now target a slot without an active Pokémon. (If a Pokémon occupies the selected slot by the time the attack is due, Future Sight will attack as intended.) If there is no target at the targeted slot by the time the attack is due, Future Sight will still fail without further notice.

A Pokémon can now endure Future Sight with Endure or Sturdy, in addition to the Focus Sash and Focus Band. Future Sight disappears with no message if it would hit the Pokémon that used the move.

Generation VI onwards

Future Sight's power was increased again from 100 to 120.

In Contests, the move increases from two appeal to six appeal if the move used by the previous Pokémon that round was also a Psychic-type move. This bonus cannot trigger if used first in the round, even if the move used by the last round's last Pokémon was a Psychic-type move.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In the Rescue Team, Explorers and Adventure Squad series, Future Sight is a status move which gives the user the Set Damage status condition for 3-4 turns. This status causes all of user's attacks to deal 35RB / 30TDS damage, regardless of other multipliers.

From Gates to Infinity, Future Sight is a damage-dealing move, which gives the user the Future Sight status condition which lets the user charge the move for one turn. The user then unleashes the move on the next turn.

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Future Sight is Espeon's and Gardevoir's second move.

Espeon can obtain the move by reaching level 6 and upgrading Growl into it instead of Psybeam. The user locks on to an enemy, then deals damage a short time later to enemies in an area of effect centered on the locked-on target. More damage is dealt the lower the locked-on target's remaining HP is. While the user is locked onto a target, all other moves will target that enemy whenever possible. Each time one of these moves deals damage, Future Sight's cooldown is reduced. If the locked-on enemy is on the opposing team and is knocked out before the area-of-effect damage is dealt, a single powered-up use of Psyshock or Stored Power becomes available for a short time. When Psyshock is powered up, it hurls stronger psychic projectiles at a designated location that also cause an explosion, dealing damage to enemies in the area of effect. When Stored Power is powered up, it unleashes an increased number of psychic blasts and restores the user's HP when the blasts hit. At level 12, the user deals 10% more damage to the target that Future Sight is locked onto.

Gardevoir can obtain the move by evolving into Kirlia at level 5 and upgrading Teleport into it instead of Psyshock. The user creates a delayed explosion at the targeted area, damaging enemies. If Future Sight hits an enemy, its cooldown is reduced. At level 11, cooldown is reset on successful hits.
