Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

False Swipe deals damage. In the Rescue Team and Explorers series, False Swipe will leave the enemy with 1 HP. Despite being a damaging move that follows the normal damage calculation, it cannot be boosted with Ginseng in the Rescue Team series. This was fixed in the Explorers series.

In Gates to Infinity and Rescue Team DX, False Swipe can cause the enemy to faint, increasing the chance of that Pokémon joining the team if it does. False Swipe's effect is reverted to that of the previous games in Super Mystery Dungeon, as recruitment is not present in this entry.

Trivia

  • False Swipe's Japanese name is a reference to katanas, which are designed to have a single cutting edge on one side, while the other side is mostly flat. Thus, striking the opponent with the flat side of the katana would not be fatal.
