Acerola is a friendly young girl who is the Captain of the trial of the Thrifty Megamart's abandoned site on Ula'ula Island. She is an orphan who lives at the Aether House, where she plays with the children and Pokémon that live there. Acerola is the last living member of an Alolan royal family.
Acerola first appears in Malie City's library, which her father once owned, where she helps the player and Lillie find a book about Alolan Legendary Pokémon. Afterwards, she directs the player to their next trial on top of Mount Hokulani.
In her trial, Acerola asks the player to investigate the abandoned site, using their Rotom Pokédex to take photos of the Ghost-type Pokémon making mischief there. At the end, they must defeat a powerful Totem Pokémon, a Mimikyu.
She later appears as a member of the Alola Elite Four, having taken on the position after kahuna Nanu turned it down.

===Main series=== | |||
| |||
Acerola debuted in Why Not Give Me a Z-Ring Sometime?. She is close friends with Ula'ula Island residents Piko and Nene, who refer to her as "Big Sis". She read them a story regarding a mischievous spirit known as the Greedy Rapooh and later went for a walk with them. During the walk, they came across TRT, who had accidentally released Greedy Rapooh, which was actually a Gengar, from the shrine that it had been sealed in.
Acerola found herself kidnapped by Greedy Rapooh, who began to steal various items despite her requests for it to stop. Her Shiny Mimikyu, nicknamed Mimikins, eventually rescued her from Greedy Rapooh, which resulted in them falling to the ground. Greedy Rapooh started begging Acerola to take it with her, offering her all the items in its possession, but she refused, believing her work at the library to be more important and valuable. Throwing a tantrum, Gengar tried to forcibly take Acerola with it, but she was saved by TRT, who had followed Gengar in an attempt to get back the Darkinium Z it had stolen from them. Having seen Team Rocket saving Acerola, Nanu chose to give them a Z-Power Ring, allowing them to defeat Gengar. Later, a sympathetic Acerola told Gengar that it could come to visit her at the library from time to time, filling it with happiness. After Nanu had let Team Rocket keep the Z-Power Ring, Mimikins gave Jessie a Mimikium Z as a gift.
In Tough Guy Trials!, Acerola met Ash, who had traveled to Ula'ula Island so he could challenge Nanu to a grand trial. After realizing that Ash was tricked into taking care of Nanu's Alolan Meowth while he left to be lazy somewhere else, Acerola took Ash to her library, where she read a story about "the Necrozma". When Nanu arrived to find his missing kendama, which Acerola had stolen to lure him to her, he was forced by Acerola to accept Ash's challenge to battle him. She later refereed the battle between Ash and his Lycanroc against Nanu and his Krookodile, which Ash lost. When Nanu told Ash he wasn't ready to face him and should just return to Melemele Island, Ash refused and decided to stay on Ula'ula and train for a rematch. Later, at Ash's request, Acerola suggested they go and see Guardian deities (anime) so it could help Ash.
In Some Kind of Laziness!, Acerola took Ash through Haina Desert to meet with Tapu Bulu at the Ruins of Abundance. There, she watched Ash train with Tapu Bulu to get stronger for his rematch with Nanu. In A Battle Hand-Off!, Acerola accompanied Ash to the Thrifty Megamart so that Ash could participate in his next trial. After arriving, Acerola refereed the battle between Ash and Pikachu against Jessie's Mimikyu. In Guiding an Awakening!, Acerola refereed the grand trial between Ash and Nanu. After Ash won, she bade him farewell as he headed back to Melemele Island.
Acerola appeared in a flashback in Filling the Light with Darkness!.
In Full Moon and Many Arms!, Acerola watched the sunrise alongside Nanu, with Tapu Bulu watching from nearby.
In Securing the Future!, Acerola joined the rest of Alola in showering Necrozma with light so it could return to its List of Pokémon with form differences.
In A Haunted House for Everyone!, Acerola visited the Pokémon School on Melemele Island, reuniting with Ash and meeting ashcl for the first time. She helped them build a haunted house for Lana's twin sisters Harper and Sarah. Mimikins's presence ended up attracting several Ghost Pokémon, including a Mismagius who put everyone to sleep and transported them into a world of nightmarish illusions.
In Battle Royal 151!, Acerola greeted Ash and his classmates when they arrived at the Manalo Stadium. She was revealed to be among the 151 Trainers taking part in the Battle Royal preliminary round of the Manalo Conference. Acerola competed with her Shuppet and was ultimately among the 16 Trainers remaining when the round ended. The match-ups for the next round revealed that she would be battling Kiawe.
In The Battlefield of Truth and Love!, Acerola went up against Kiawe, using Greedy Rapooh against Kiawe's Marowak. She ended up losing when Marowak retrieved its bone from Greedy Rapooh and knocked it out. In The Final Four! and Getting Down to The Ire!, she watched the battle between Kiawe and Gladion in the stands; and in The Wisdom Not to Run!, she watched the battle between Ash and Guzma.
In Enter the Champion!, Acerola attended the award ceremony for the Manalo Conference winner, only for it to be interrupted when a Ultra Beasts (anime) arrived at the stadium through an Ultra Wormhole.
Acerola reappeared in a flashback in From Z to Shining Z!.
====Character==== | |||
Acerola is used to the supernatural and Ghost Pokémon overall, largely because of Mimikyu' presence. This was demonstrated by her composure during Mismagius's illusions in A Haunted House for Everyone!, which she noted was normal for her.
Acerola often visits Nanu, who is notoriously lazy, to ensure he is keeping up with his island kahuna duties. She was the one who convinced Nanu to accept Ash's challenges in Tough Guy Trials! and their later rematch in Guiding an Awakening!.

Acerola was first mentioned in Flash and Cosmog's Secret by Mallow, who considered asking Acerola and Ilima to join her, Kiawe, and Lana in raiding Team Skull's base. Acerola properly debuted in Shipwreck and "Oh, What Sharp Teeth You Have, Bruxish!", where she found an unconscious Sun and Lillie on a beach and took them to the Aether House to recuperate.
In A Photoshoot and the Abandoned Thrifty Megamart, Acerola introduced herself to Sun and Lillie and took them to the Thrifty Megamart. She gave Sun a trial and tasked him with photographing the Totem Pokémon that lived inside the building. While Sun did the trial, Acerola left to go meet with Mallow's group. Later, she received a photo of the Totem Mimikyu from Sun, who had successfully completed the trial.
In A Raid and Po Town, Acerola, Kiawe, Mallow, Lana, Ilima, and Hau arrived at Po Town. Their presence alerted Team Skull's boss, Guzma, who demanded to know why his base was being invaded. When the Captains revealed they only wanted to talk, Guzma agreed on the condition they made it to him first and then summoned a Pheromosa, Celesteela, and Guzzlord. He had them attack the Captains and Hau. Despite their best efforts, Acerola and the others were completely outmatched by the rampaging Ultra Beasts.
In Confusion and Monsters from Another World, Sun arrived at Po Town, only to get caught up in the commotion. Annoyed the Captains were still fighting, Guzma revealed a Cosmog and had it open more wormholes. Gladion appeared, demanding to know where Guzma got the Cosmog and Ultra Beasts from. Revealing his true aim is to destroy Ultra Beasts, Gladion battled the beasts Guzma summoned with his Gladion. To everyone's shock, Gladion also revealed the Aether Foundation's president, Lusamine, was the one who gave Guzma Cosmog as part of her plan to create a paradise filled with nothing but Ultra Beasts and herself. Eventually, the beasts broke out of Po Town's barrier, allowing them to wreak havoc on all of Ula'ula Island. Acerola and the other Captains headed off to various locations to evacuate any innocent civilians caught in the beasts' attacks.
In The Truth and Island Kahuna Hapu, Acerola, Sophocles, Molayne, Professor Kukui, and Gladion fought off a Celesteela and Guzzlord at 10 to prevent them from reaching Hokulani Observatory. Gladion easily defeated Celesteela and later defeated Guzzlord to prevent it from hurting Lillie.
In Adventure in the Dark Dimension, the Trial Captains and island kahunas were revealed to have spent six months on Exeggutor Island training to prepare for another clash with the Ultra Beasts. After their training was finished, Acerola and the other Captains went to Hokulani Observatory under Molayne's orders. Once they gathered together, Acerola and the others traveled to Mount Lanakila, where a wormhole had opened up earlier. Shortly after they arrived, their ship was attacked by a group of Aether Foundation Employees and their Ultra Beasts. During the battle, Acerola was assisted by Tapu Lele, who transported her to Akala Island in order to battle with some Kartana at Hano Grand Resort.

Acerola (Japanese: アセロラ Acerola) is the Trial Captain of Thrifty Megamart's abandoned site on Ula'ula Island. She is also a Ghost-type Trainer and a member of the Alola Elite Four.
In the core series games
Acerola is a friendly young girl who is the Captain of the trial of the Thrifty Megamart's abandoned site on Ula'ula Island. She is an orphan who lives at the Aether House, where she plays with the children and Pokémon that live there. Acerola is the last living member of an Alolan royal family.
Acerola first appears in Malie City's library, which her father once owned, where she helps the player and Lillie find a book about Alolan Legendary Pokémon. Afterwards, she directs the player to their next trial on top of Mount Hokulani.
In her trial, Acerola asks the player to investigate the abandoned site, using their Poké Finder to take photos of the Ghost-type Pokémon making mischief there. At the end, they must defeat a powerful Totem Pokémon, a Mimikyu.
She later appears as a member of the Alola Elite Four, having taken on the position after kahuna Nanu turned it down.

In the anime
Main series
Acerola debuted in Why Not Give Me a Z-Ring Sometime?. She is close friends with Ula'ula Island residents Piko and Nene, who refer to her as "Big Sis". She read them a story regarding a mischievous spirit known as the Greedy Rapooh and later went for a walk with them. During the walk, they came across Team Rocket, who had accidentally released Greedy Rapooh, which was actually a Gengar, from the shrine that it had been sealed in.
Throwing a tantrum, Gengar tried to forcibly take Acerola with it, but she was saved by Team Rocket, who had followed Gengar in an attempt to get back the Darkinium Z it had stolen from them.
After realizing that Ash was tricked into taking care of Nanu's Alolan Meowth while he left to be lazy somewhere else, Acerola took Ash to her library, where she read a story about "the Blinding One". Later, at Ash's request, Acerola suggested they go and see Tapu Bulu so it could help Ash.
In Securing the Future!, Acerola joined the rest of Alola in showering Necrozma with light so it could return to its true form.
In A Haunted House for Everyone!, Acerola visited the Pokémon School on Melemele Island, reuniting with Ash and meeting his classmates for the first time. She helped them build a haunted house for Lana's twin sisters Harper and Sarah. Mimikins's presence ended up attracting several Ghost-type Pokémon, including a Mismagius who put everyone to sleep and transported them into a world of nightmarish illusions.
In Enter the Champion!, Acerola attended the award ceremony for the Manalo Conference winner, only for it to be interrupted when a Guzzlord arrived at the stadium through an Ultra Wormhole.
Acerola reappeared in a flashback in From Z to Shining Z!.
Character
Acerola is used to the supernatural and Ghost-type Pokémon overall, largely because of Mimikins' presence.

Gengar, nicknamed Greedy Rapooh (Japanese: 欲しがりラプー Greedy Rapooh) and sometimes shortened to simply Rapooh (Japanese: ラプー Rapooh), is a Totem-sized Pokémon that Acerola befriended in Why Not Give Me a Z-Ring Sometime?. Acerola first met Gengar when it broke free from a shrine that Team Rocket accidentally unsealed it from. When Acerola tried to scold Gengar and stop it from causing trouble, it took a liking to her and kidnapped her. It stole a large variety of objects, including Team Rocket's Darkinium Z, in an effort to have Acerola stay with it, but to no avail.
Team Rocket later saved Acerola with the help of Nanu, their new Z-Power Ring, and Black Hole Eclipse. Gengar initially felt rejected by Acerola, but after being told that it can visit her in the library she works in at any time, it happily accepted the offer.
In Securing the Future!, Gengar joined the rest of Alola in showering Necrozma with light so it could return to its true form.
In The Battlefield of Truth and Love!, Acerola was revealed to have caught Gengar, using it in her battle against Kiawe during the Manalo Conference. However, it was eventually defeated by Kiawe's Marowak.
Greedy Rapooh's known moves are Shadow Ball, Shadow Punch, and Thief, and its Ability is Cursed Body.

In A Photoshoot and the Abandoned Thrifty Megamart, Acerola introduced herself to Sun and Lillie and took them to the abandoned Thrifty Megamart.
In Confusion and Monsters from Another World, Sun arrived at Po Town, only to get caught up in the commotion. Eventually, the beasts broke out of Po Town's barrier, allowing them to wreak havoc on all of Ula'ula Island. Acerola and the other Captains headed off to various locations to evacuate any innocent civilians caught in the beasts' attacks.
In The Truth and Island Kahuna Hapu, Acerola, Sophocles, Molayne, Professor Kukui, and Gladion fought off a Celesteela and Guzzlord at Route 10 to prevent them from reaching Hokulani Observatory.
Pokémon
Palossand is Acerola's first known Pokémon. It was first used as a Sandygast to rescue Sun and Lillie after they washed ashore on Ula'ula Island. It used its powers to lift the two into the air and helped move them to the Aether House. Later, it was used to battle the Pheromosa Guzma used at Po Town, but was defeated. After training with the other Trial Captains on Exeggutor Island, it evolved into a Palossand.
None of Palossand's moves are known.
Dhelmise is Acerola's second known Pokémon. It was first used to battle a group of Kartana at Hano Grand Resort.
None of Dhelmise's moves are known.
