Misty Terrain creates terrain that envelops the field and replaces the background environment and any other terrain that is already in effect. The terrain fades after five turns.

This terrain has the following effects on Pokémon that are on the ground and not in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move.
*It prevents affected Pokémon from being afflicted by non-volatile status conditions or Yawn.
*It halves the power of Dragon moves used against affected Pokémon (regardless of whether the user of the move is affected by Misty Terrain).
**If an affected Pokémon is already drowsy due to Yawn, it is prevented from falling asleep.
*It prevents affected Pokémon from being afflicted by non-volatile status conditions (but does not cure Pokémon already afflicted with one).

**Rest will fail if used by an affected Pokémon.

*Nature Power becomes Moonblast.
*Secret Power uses the animation of Fairy Wind and may lower its target's Special Attack.
*Camouflage causes the user to become Fairy.

If Misty Terrain is in effect, Nature Power becomes Moonblast, Secret Power uses the animation of Fairy Wind and may lower its target's Special Attack, and Camouflage causes the user to become Fairy. Natural objects disappear and cannot be destroyed while Misty Terrain is in effect.

Generation VII
Pokémon affected by Misty Terrain can no longer become confusion.
Pokémon affected by Misty Terrain can no longer become confusion.

If a Pokémon is holding a Misty Seed while the field is Misty Terrain, it consumes the Misty Seed and its Special Defense is increased by one stage (even if it is not otherwise affected by the terrain).
When a Pokémon with the Ability Misty Surge enters battle, Misty Terrain is automatically created.

If a Terrain Extender is held when Misty Terrain is used, the terrain will last 8 turns instead of 5.
If a Pokémon is holding a Misty Seed while the field is Misty Terrain, it consumes the Misty Seed and its Special Defense is increased by one stage (even if it is not otherwise affected by the terrain). If a Terrain Extender is held when Misty Terrain is used, the terrain will last 8 turns instead of 5.

When a Pokémon with the Ability Misty Surge enters battle, Misty Terrain is automatically created which lasts for 5 turns (8 if the Pokémon holds a Terrain Extender).
If powered up by a Fairium Z into Z-Misty Terrain, the user's Special Defense stat rises by one stage.

Generation VIII onwards
If powered up by a Z-Crystal into Z-Misty Terrain, the user's Special Defense stat rises by one stage.
Misty Terrain now:
*Increases Misty Explosion's base power by 1.5×.
*Changes Terrain Pulse's type to Fairy and its base power doubles from 50 to 100.
*Changes the type of a Pokémon with Mimicry to Fairy.
*Prevents an affected Pokémon who has become drowsy from the effect of G-Max Snooze from falling asleep.
Misty Terrain is automatically created when Max Starfall is used.

Misty Terrain (Japanese: ミストフィールド Mist Field) is a non-damaging Fairy-type move introduced in Generation VI. It was TM89 in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is TM139 in Generation IX.

Effect

Generation VI

Misty Terrain creates terrain that envelops the field and replaces the background environment and any other terrain that is already in effect. The terrain fades after five turns.

This terrain has the following effects on Pokémon that are on the ground and not in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move.

Natural objects disappear and cannot be destroyed while Misty Terrain is in effect. Misty Terrain does not prevent Pokémon from being confused.

Generation VII

Pokémon affected by Misty Terrain can no longer become confused.

When a Pokémon with the Ability Misty Surge enters battle, Misty Terrain is automatically created.

If powered up by a Fairium Z into Z-Misty Terrain, the user's Special Defense stat rises by one stage.

Generation VIII onwards

Misty Terrain now:

 • Increases Misty Explosion's base power by 1.5×.
 • Changes Terrain Pulse's type to Fairy and its base power doubles from 50 to 100.
 • Changes the type of a Pokémon with Mimicry to Fairy.
 • Prevents an affected Pokémon who has become drowsy from the effect of G-Max Snooze from falling asleep.

Misty Terrain is automatically created when Max Starfall is used.

Trivia

 • Misty Terrain is the only terrain that does not boost the power of moves of its own type. It instead reduces the power of Dragon-type moves used against grounded Pokémon.
