Phantom Force (Japanese: ゴーストダイブ Ghost Dive) is a damage-dealing Ghost-type move introduced in Generation VI. It is TM86 in Generation VIII.

Effect

Generation VI

Phantom Force causes the user to "vanish" on the turn it is used, making it semi-invulnerable, and then reappear the next turn causing damage.

Phantom Force hits the target even if it is protected by a protection move, and removes the effects of protection moves from the target for the remainder of the turn; if it hits a target that is protected by protection move that affects its whole side of the field, it removes the protection move from that entire side of the field (even if the protection move would not affect Phantom Force, such as Crafty Shield). If Phantom Force hits a Pokémon protected by a move with a negative effect (such as Spiky Shield), the user will not suffer the negative effect of the protection move. Phantom Force cannot remove the effects of protecting moves if it does not affect the target (such as if the target is Normal-type).

If the target has used Minimize, Phantom Force deals double its regular damage and bypasses accuracy checks to always hit, unless the target is in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move such as Dig or Fly. In addition, a foe who has just used Lock-On or Mind Reader can still strike through Phantom Force, as well as if the Ability No Guard is possessed by the foe or the user of Phantom Force.

If a Pokémon is asleep when it would execute the second turn of Phantom Force, the semi-invulnerable turn will end without the move being executed.

If the user is holding a Power Herb, it will consume the Power Herb and execute Phantom Force in one turn.

Generation VII onwards

Phantom Force no longer bypasses accuracy checks nor deals double its regular damage against a target that has used Minimize.

Phantom Force cannot bypass Max Guard nor lift its effects.

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Phantom Force is Hoopa's first move. It is obtained by reaching level 5 and upgrading Astonish into it instead of Shadow Ball. The user creates a ring under itself and warps to a designated Pokémon’s location, dealing damage to nearby opposing Pokémon at that location and shoving them. The user then shoots two sinister flames that deal damage to opposing Pokémon they hit and decrease their movement speed for a short time. This move can be used a second time within a set amount of time. If used a second time, the user can return to the initial location where it warped from. When using this move, if there is a nearby ally Pokémon that is linked by Trick, that ally can also warp to the initial ring’s location. The ally Pokémon that warps in this way will recover some HP. At level 12, the move makes the user invincible for a short time when used. In Unbound form, this move is replaced by Hyperspace Fury.
