Stealth Rock (Japanese: ステルスロック Stealth Rock) is a non-damaging Rock-type move introduced in Generation IV.

It is:

Effect

Generation IV

Stealth Rock sets an entry hazard around the target Pokémon. Pokémon on the target's field receive damage upon switching in. The amount of damage inflicted upon switching in is affected by the effectiveness of Rock against the target. It also does not stack if multiple layers are set. It does not damage Pokémon with the Ability Magic Guard. Rapid Spin removes Stealth Rock from the user's side of the field if it affects its target; Defog removes the effect of Stealth Rock from the target's side of the field if it affects its target.

The damage is taken from the victim's maximum HP, and follows:

Type effectiveness Damage (Max. HP)
0.25× 3.125%
0.5× 6.25%
12.5%
25%
50%

As Castform transforms after entry hazards take effect, Castform only takes 12.5% damage, regardless of the weather.

Generation V

Stealth Rock can now be reflected by Magic Coat.

Generation VI onwards

Defog now clears Stealth Rock from both sides.

Stealth Rock is unaffected by strong winds. In an Inverse Battle, Stealth Rock uses the inverted weakness and resistance to Rock to calculate damage.

Stealth Rock can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, causing Circle Throw, Dragon Tail, Roar, and Whirlwind to give extra three appeal points if used in the next turn.

Any Pokémon that appear after calling for help during SOS Battles are subject to Stealth Rock.

If powered up by a Rockium Z into Z-Stealth Rock, it will raise the user's Defense stat by one stage.

Using G-Max Stonesurge and Stone Axe will set up Stealth Rock on the target's side of the field.

Generation VIII

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Stealth Rock is a physical move that deals direct damage with a base power of 40. It also leaves the target with splinters for 4 turns (Strong Style), 2 turns (Agile Style), or 3 turns (otherwise).

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Stealth Rock causes the user to create a Stealth Rock trap underneath them, as long as it is a land tile that is neither stairs nor Kecleon Shop carpet. The trap also cannot be laid in hallways and the entrance of a room.

In the Explorers series, any Pokémon that triggers a Stealth Rock receives damage equal to ⅛ of their maximum HP, regardless of the type matchup.

In Super Mystery Dungeon, the damage ranges from 7.4% of the user's max HP (if both the user's types resist the Rock-type), 8.4% (one type resists the Rock-type), 9.6% (neutral damage from the Rock-type), 11.4% (weak against Rock-type), and 13.6% (both types weak against the Rock-type).

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Stealth Rock is Crustle's and Duraludon's second move.

Crustle can obtain the move by reaching level 6 and upgrading Fury Cutter into it instead of X-Scissor. The user aims and creates a radius in which rocks hit enemies 8 times. Each hit applies a stack of a debuff which causes subsequent hits to deal 15% more damage. Additional damage from this debuff is always rounded up. Stealth Rock can critically hit, however, the user's base critical hit chance is 0%. At level 13, this attack hits two more times.

Duraludon can obtain the move by reaching level 7 and upgrading Metal Claw into it instead of Dragon Tail. The user hurls a stone at the designated area, creating an invisible field of stones for 60s or until triggered. The field deals damage over time to enemies in the area of effect and decreases their movement speed by 15% for 2s. If the hurled stone hits an enemy before the designated area, the field will instead be centered on where the stone hit that Pokémon. Once an enemy takes damage from the field, it will become visible to all enemies. If an enemy takes damage from this move 4 times, that enemy becomes unable to move for 1s. After this move is used, the user's next basic attack becomes a boosted attack. A maximum of 2 uses can be kept in reserve for this move. There is a 1.1s cooldown between uses. A maximum of 3 Stealth Rocks may be on the game field at one time, but 3 more can still be kept in reserve. At level 13, this move can store an extra use in reserve.

Pokémon Method
User First Used In Notes
Onix Onix's body becomes surrounded in several silver glitters that grow larger and fire around the battlefield. The energy then grows larger and forms into pointed gray rocks that sit on the ground. When the opponent sends out another Pokémon, the rocks around it rise into the air, glow white, and crush the opponent.

Steelix Multiple glowing rocks rise in front of Steelix's body. The rocks then stop glowing and are fired towards the opponent, landing in the ground around them. If the opponent steps on the stones, they glow orange and explode.
Levi's Steelix Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel None
Probopass Probopass's eyes glow light blue and its Mini-Noses spin around its body, forming a light blue ring of energy on the ground around the opponent. After the glow fades, if the opponent steps on the area where the glow was, a gray stone pillar appears where they stepped on, damaging the opponent. The area that glowed is then filled with similar stone pillars, surrounding the opponent.
Olivia's Probopass Trials and Determinations! None
Garchomp Garchomp spins around in the air, forming a swirl of sand and jagged rocks around its body. It then stops spinning, sending the rocks floating around the battlefield, where they disappear from view. When the opponent sends out another Pokémon, one of the rocks reappears before the opponent and hits them.
