Trivia
- Steven & Metagross were the first fair-exclusive Steel-type sync pair.
- Excluding potentially Scottie and Bettie, Steven was the first Trainer to form a sync pair with a Shiny Pokémon.
- Excluding potentially Scottie and Bettie, he was also the first Trainer to form sync pairs with two different Shiny Pokémon.
- Excluding potentially Scottie and Bettie, Steven was the first Trainer to form three strike sync pairs.
- During the story event Hearts United, Steven makes a reference to Alain and his battle against a Rayquaza alongside him in Mega Evolution Special II, wishing to grow strong enough to surpass him alongside his Rayquaza partner.
- Steven's Rayquaza is the only Pokémon to acquire a boost in only a single stat upon Mega Evolution (which is its Speed stat).
- All versions of Steven use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers include Brendan, May, Roxanne, Brawly, Wallace, Sidney, Lisia, Zinnia, and Roark.
- Steven also uses special voice-over lines upon winning a battle with Brendan, May, Roxanne, Wallace, or Lisia in the same team.
- Sygna Suit Steven & Deoxys are the first sygna suit sync pair with the Champion theme skill, despite Steven not being the first Pokémon Champion to receive a sygna suit.
- Excluding Scottie and Bettie, Steven is the first Trainer to form six different sync pairs.
- Steven is the first Trainer with five different outfits, as well as the first Trainer with five EX styles.
- Steven (Special Costume) & Stoutland were the first costume sync pair with a buddy move.
- Sygna Suit Steven & Deoxys are the first sync pair to receive an EX role after their initial release to not be exclusive to Master Fair sync pair scouts.
Origin
Steven's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Metagross is Steven's signature Pokémon in the core series games, and is first seen Mega Evolving in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Metagross's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
Steven uses a Cradily on his team in most battles against the player in the core series games. Cradily's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
Steven is not seen owning an Alolan Sandslash outside this game. Alolan Sandslash's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
Steven's Shiny Rayquaza may be a reference to a variety of Shiny event Rayquaza that were distributed in various regions during Generation VI's lifetime. Rayquaza's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Omega Ruby.
While Steven does not own a Deoxys outside this game, they both play a major role in the Delta Episode of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Deoxys's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby.
Steven's Special Costume seems to be inspired by Sherlock Holmes, the titular character from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Steven is not seen owning a Stoutland outside this game, but it could be a reference to Sherlock Holmes's dog, Toby, which first appeared in The Sign of the Four. Stoutland's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Moon.
