Nemona (Japanese: ネモ Nemo) is a character introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. She is the player character's friend and hopes to find an equal rivalry with them. Nemona is the president of the academy's student council.

In the core series games

Character profile

Nemona is an energetic and fun girl who adores battling with Pokémon. As an experienced Pokémon Trainer, she is among one of Paldea's top ranked as a Champion, after moving to the region at the age of just seven.[1] Despite her skill, she is not very good at throwing Poké Balls. She serves as a guide for the player. She, along with the player, is enrolled in the general studies track of the NaranjaS/UvaV Academy, with her homeroom teacher being Jacq. Due to her love for battles, Nemona tries to squeeze in a battle at every moment she gets, and strives to have someone in equals with. Nemona occasionally drops Spanish words or a Spanish accent in her dialect in English, in reference to Paldea being based on the real-world country of Spain.

Along with the player, who Nemona begins a quick friendship with, Nemona also meets Arven and Penny over the course of Scarlet and Violet. She does not get along with the other two at first, often misunderstanding their viewpoints and clashing with their interests, but get along by game's end. Nemona has an admiration for stronger trainers, such as Geeta, the strongest member of Paldea's Pokémon League.

Nemona lives in the same hometown of Cabo Poco as the player, living in the same neighborhood. She is the daughter of one of the Rotom Phone company's board members, coming from a wealthier family. Her father, mother and older sister all go unnamed. Nemona's Student ID at the academy is 805C001.

Appearance

Nemona's Pokémon Violet concept art

Nemona is a young girl who attends Paldea's academy; due to the school changing based on what version is being played, so does her outfit. Her design otherwise relatively stays the same. Nemona has long black hair with most of it being tied in the back in the form of a ponytail. Three bangs stick out from her forehead, the two larger ones being a shade of green as opposed to her normal black coloring. She has large, angular eyes with orange irises and large black pupils. She has three eyelashes on each eye. Her angular eyebrows are thin and black

She wears a magenta arm brace on her right arm. This arm brace covers her knuckles and stops halfway up to her forearm. The bottom side is black and goes all around her arm up to her bicep. The magenta covering is stopped by a thick white cuff. Her shoes are the same colors as her arm brace, having a white back and soles, the upper half being mostly magenta and the tongue being white and black. She wears all-black leggings that go underneath her school shorts.

Nemona will always wear the summer attire of her school's uniform, sporting a short-sleeved T-shirt and shorts. The T-shirt has the school's emblem on her left sleeve. In Pokémon Scarlet, the shirt is all off-white tinted blue, with a collar that goes around the neck, topped with an orange necktie. A singular front pocket on the left side of her chest. Her shorts are orange with lighter orange stripes. These shorts have two pockets on both sides of her legs, with larger pockets underneath that stick out, buttoned together by blue buttons. She has two blue strings on the front of her pants In Pokémon Violet, her shirt is gray instead and has a purple tie. her shorts also look nearly identical, with the blue buttons and strings being yellow and the pants themselves being completely purple with no pattern.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Background and pre-game

Website blurb: "Your friend, Nemona, has a sunny and energetic disposition, and she absolutely loves Pokémon battles. She’s an experienced Pokémon Trainer and serves as a reliable guide for you on your adventures. She has undisputed skill in battle—though it does also seem that she’s not the best at throwing Poké Balls."

Prior to the events of Scarlet and Violet, unlike previous rival and friend characters, Nemona is already a Pokémon Trainer and a Champion, and implies that she is starting fresh with a new team of Pokémon. She already attends the school that the player will attend to.

Victory Road

Nemona is first met in Cabo Poco, where she introduces herself as the player's neighbor. Despite being a Champion-ranked Trainer, she chooses to raise a new Pokémon team alongside the player to be more on their level, choosing the first partner Pokémon that is weak to the player's. After having her first battle with the player, the two set off to the city of Mesagoza to go to the Academy. The player has a troubling situation with KoraidonS/MiraidonV on Inlet Grotto, and returns to Nemona. Nemona is glad that the player is safe and brings them to a nearby lighthouse on Poco Path, where they meet Arven, a boy who seems to know about the Pokémon the player has found. After some clashing of heads and explanation of the player's new ride, Nemona escorts them to Mesagoza through Los Platos and gives them a tutorial on Pokémon Centers and the Terastal phenomenon in front of Mesagoza's doors. Inside the city, Nemona brings them to the school's stairs (which she seems to have a frustration with on account of being too long and steep) where the two of them will be studying. There, they encounter more strangers, Team Star, a group of students who bully other students, and Penny, a shy girl who also seems to butt heads with Nemona.

Once the player starts studying at the academy, Nemona urges them to challenge Gyms around Paldea so they can challenge the Pokémon League. Along the way, Nemona will occasionally appear to gauge the player's progress by battling them. Once the player has defeated all 8 of Paldea's Gyms, she becomes excited and awaits their progress at the Pokémon League. Once the player has passed the test and became a Champion-ranked member of the Pokémon league, Nemona is thrilled and wants to battle them immediately. The two of them think on where this champion themed battle should be held, deciding on Megagoza's battlefield in the middle of the city. Nemona loses to the player, but is filled with pride and excitement, happy to have such a fruitful battle against them. She asks for more, hoping the fun never stops.

The Way Home

Once the player has passed the Champion Assessment, Nemona will challenge them to one more battle, where she doesn't hold back. After the player has finished Victory Road and the two other stories, She later accompanies the player, Arven, and Penny on a journey to Area Zero, battling alongside the player as a battle partner to fight against any Paradox Pokémon they may come across.

In the post-credits story, Nemona participates in the Academy Ace Tournament, although she has to manage the admin work when it is held for the first time, she can be battled as a random opponent in subsequent Academy Ace Tournaments.

Mochi Mayhem

Nemona joins Arven and Penny to hang out with the player at their house. Later, they are invited to join the player in visiting Kieran in Kitakami. Upon their arrival, Nemona immediately challenges Kieran to a battle, having heard of his former status as BB League Champion, and though she wins handily, she is greatly impressed by his skills. Just then, Carmine arrives, performing a weird dance and not acting her usual self. Kieran is concerned by his sister's peculiar behavior, though Nemona and the others encourage him to stay positive. That night, Nemona stops by Peachy's to buy soda for the group and ends up unwittingly eating Pecharunt's toxic mochi before returning to the Community Center. During their race to find the remote for the TV display, Nemona eventually falls under Pecharunt's influence and wanders out of the Community Center, heading for Kitakami Hall and presumably infecting more citizens. The player and Kieran spot her and give chase, only to contend with Kieran's infected grandparents instead.

The player and Kieran later confront the controlled Nemona and Pecharunt itself at Loyalty Plaza. Realizing the player is the only one who can beat Nemona in battle, Kieran decides to back them up by holding off an approaching horde of possessed villagers. Meanwhile, the player fights and defeats Nemona, who retains a modicum of her battle-frenzied personality despite Pecharunt's control. After the player defeats and catches Pecharunt, Nemona and the others are freed from its influence, with Nemona believing her battle with the player to be a "crazy realistic dream" that she would like to have again. After spending some more peaceful time in Kitakami and battling Carmine and Kieran a dozen times each, the player, Nemona and the others return to Paldea.

Pokémon

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Nemona uses the first partner Pokémon with a type disadvantage to the one the player chooses. As shown in the game's opening cutscene, she also owns a Combat Breed Paldean Tauros. She is never seen using him elsewhere, although she can trade one to the player in The Indigo Disk. She is also implied to have more Pokémon that are unseen by the player, as she became a Champion prior to her first battle with the player and repeatedly mentions needing to select a perfect team for her battles. The official website for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet claims that Nemona uses Lechonk and Smoliv, even though she is never seen using either of these Pokémon.[3][4]

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Nemona first appeared in Nemona and Brassius and… while winning a battle against a Trainer. Sometime before meeting Liko and Roy, Nemona came to Artazon to meet with Brassius and discuss his absence from the Artazon Gym. Upon being introduced to the young Trainers, Nemona joined them on a visit to Brassius's art studio to meet the Gym Leader. During the meeting, when Roy spoke about the Black Rayquaza, Brassius kicked everyone out of his house. While discussing why Brassius acted the way he did, Liko came to the conclusion that Brassius might have an artist's block.

Afterwards, Nemona took Liko and Roy to the Sunflora Lawn and decided to group as many Sunflora to create inspiration for Brassius again. When they got together to see how many they managed to group, Nemona showed that she managed to gather fifteen Sunflora. After Brassius saw the group's determination and his Dolliv's insistence, he presented Nemona, Liko, and Roy with a work based on his vision of Rayquaza.

While Brassius challenged Roy to a battle, Nemona watched it along with Liko. After the battle, she explained the Terastal phenomenon to Roy. At the end, Brassius presented another work of his to the group, one based on an Arboliva.

In Arboliva's Forest, Nemona accompanied Liko, Roy, and Mollie into Arboliva's Forest. Upon arriving, Nemona said goodbye to the group and told Roy that the next time she met them, she would like to have a battle with him.

She reappeared in HZ046, welcoming Liko, Roy, and Dot to Naranja Academy. She reminded Roy about their promise the last time they met and challenged him to a battle, but was reminded by Clavell that as the student council president, it was her responsibility to show the new students around the school. While she repeated her desire to battle a couple more times later on, the school bell prevented her from doing so, much to her disappointment.

In HZ048, Nemona appeared at Artazon and was finally able to challenge Roy to a battle. Using her Pawmot, she won the battle with relative ease. She later participated in the Artazon Art Festival by creating a wooden carving of Pawmot.

In HZ055, Nemona was shown to have returned to the academy, where she watched the Elite Four Tag Battle. After Roy's battle against Hassel, she and Roy and had a brief talk, with her looking forward to seeing Roy growing stronger.

In HZ061, Nemona reunited with Liko, Roy, and Dot at Montenevera. She was revealed to be there in order to watch Pokémon battles during the open participation segments of Ryme's upcoming concert. Later, she watched as Roy battled against MC Sledge and Ryme.

In HZ062, Nemona had Roy and Fuecoco undergo Hyper Training to boost their bond and strength through snowball rolling, running, and battling. She later watched Roy's rematch against Ryme and was glad to see his training paid off after his victory.

Character

Nemona is a very friendly and kind person, quickly making friends with Liko and Roy. She also has a huge passion for Pokémon battles, challenging different Trainers as she encounters them on her way to a battle. She is very supportive and encouraging towards aspiring trainers and is quick to give them tips about battles and the Terastal phenomenon. Nemona has sparked somewhat of a friendly rivalry with Roy, often wanting to challenge him to battles whenever they meet, though she does not always get the chance to do so due to certain events much to her dismay.

As expected from a Champion, Nemona is well respected in the Paldea region. Despite her young age, she is shown to be very knowledgeable about various topics in the Pokémon world, such as the Terastal phenomenon. She is also very skilled in battling, not relying soley on brute force but mainly tactics, oppotunity and cunning, such as when she ultilised a sudden weather change like rain to her advantage in her first battle with Roy.

Just like in the games, Nemona is revealed to have surprisingly low stamina when running or during other physical activities, in contrast to her energetic personality, as seen in HZ062.

Nemona in Pokémon: Paldean Winds

Nemona first appeared in Breathe Out. Nemona was first seen being watched by Aliquis as she taught some children the concept of Terastallization. Later, during Ohara's performance, she was seen attending the concert with Naranja Academy's academic staff. During the events of the episode, it was revealed that Nemona had a battle to wage against Aliquis.

In Breathe In, Nemona defeated Aliquis in battle, some time later, Nemona had a new battle against her rival, this time a Full Battle. Initially, Nemona was winning again, but the battle scenario changed when Aliquis made peace with his Meowscarada, upon seeing Aliquis' determination, Nemona decided to continue the battle with each of the Trainers Terastallizing their Pokémon. With new determination, the battle between Nemona and Aliquis continued.

In Take a Breath, it was revealed that Nemona managed to beat Aliquis in the last battle, thus achieving a score of three victories against her biggest rival in the Academy.

In Breathe Together, during the presentation of Naranja Academy's introduction video for new students, Nemona appeared presenting a talk to some students and then to the rest of the Academy's student body.

Pokémon Adventures

Nemona debuted in PASV01. During Uva Academy's opening ceremony for the Treasure Hunt, Clavell selected Nemona and another, helmet-wearing student, to have a demonstration battle. The match was interrupted when a student named Violet barged into the courtyard and got into a race with some teachers. Once the race was over, Nemona challenged Violet, claiming that he owed her a battle after his actions caused her previous opponent to run off. Arven told Nemona that she'd be better off looking for her previous opponent before leaving with Violet to search for the Herba Mystica. Nemona later found the helmeted student in the school library, only for them to disappear before she could ask for a rematch.

In PASV05, after gathering information from the teaching staff, Nemona successfully uncovered the identity of the helmeted student: a girl named Scarlet. At the Mesagoza south Pokémon Center, she challenged Scarlet to a rematch, but was refused. Scarlet stated that she had no interest in Uva Academy's "make-believe" Treasure Hunt before revealing her profession as an actual treasure hunter. In PASV06, fed up with Nemona's constant pestering, Scarlet fled and headed towards South Province (Area Two).

Days later, Nemona arrived at Cortondo, hoping to challenge the Gym, only to learn that Scarlet had gotten there first. Scarlet battled and defeated Katy, the Cortondo Gym Leader, but rejected the Badge she was offered. Instead, she requested that Katy provide her with any information on the treasures of ruin that Katy might have. Once Nemona finished her Gym battle, Katy revealed she had no knowledge on the treasures of ruin, but offered to let the Artazon Gym Leader Brassius know what Scarlet was searching for ahead of time. Nemona and Scarlet then left to find a watchtower located in South Province (Area Three). Arven later happened to arrive at the same watchtower, only to find Nemona lying unconscious on top of it.

Once she woke up, Nemona explained that she was attacked by a wild Gimmighoul shortly after climbing the watchtower. Scarlet told Nemona to recover her vitality by resting before heading off to Artazon alone. After learning that Arven was working with Violet to take on the Klawf, the Stony Cliff Titan, Nemona begged the two to let her join them. Nemona and Arven fired a pincer attack at Klawf, forcing it to run into the path of Violet's next attack, defeating it. Afterward, Arven used the Sweet Herba Mystica that Klawf was guarding to make sandwiches for everyone to enjoy.
